It’s nearly the end of the month, and that means it is time for the Playground Games development team to announce the next update for the popular open-world driving game Forza Horizon 5.

As is the recent trend, this is split into two main buckets: free and paid-for DLC, the latter of which seems to have become a key strategy for the title, starting in 2023.

Race Off Challenge

Each monthly festival playlist within Forza Horizon 5 has a theme, and this time it is ‘Race Off’. This boils down to two tribes: Asphalt Racers and Off Road Racers.

In what is labelled as a community event, taking part in set challenges will see you cumulatively earn points for either side. At the end of the month, one team will be victorious based on player’s habits.

This is where two new cars can be unlocked. Each side has an overall points goal, and presumably, each target is pegged at a realistic level to make acquiring both cars relatively straightforward.
  • If the asphalt racing goal is hit, all players will receive a: 2024 Ford Mustang GT
  • If the asphalt racing goal is hit, all players will receive a: 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R
Both a contemporary V8-powered blue ovals, and both have never been seen in Forza before.
To check on current progress, players can visit a new festival outpost, which will move location each week across the four weeks of the Race Off competition.

There are also two new Race Off-themed outfits, because, yay for outfits.

Finally, 18 new Race Off-themed EventLab props will become available for use in custom routes.
  • Eight signs and flags -- Asphalt Billboard -- Off-Road BillBoard -- Asphalt Flags --- White --- Blue --- Dark Blue -- Off-Road Flags --- White --- Orange --- Dark Orange
  • Two gameplay elements -- Asphalt Helmet Piñata -- Off-Road Helmet Piñata
  • Six festival items -- Horizon Race-Off Display -- Horizon Race-Off Entrance -- Asphalt Entrance -- Off-Road Entrance -- Asphalt Festival Tower -- Off-Road Festival Tower
  • Two walls and fences -- Asphalt Barrier -- Off-Road Barrer

Festival Playlist

As ever, there will be a new playlist, four across the month, changing each week with a new set of challenges and new cars to unlock.

Successfully earn enough points, and the following new-to-Forza Horizon 5 cars could be yours:
  • McLaren Artura (2023) - Summer, 20 pts
  • Audi TT RS Coupe (2020) - Autumn, 20 pts
  • Ford Mustang SVT Cobra (2003) - Winter, 20 pts
  • Jaguar F-Type SVR (2020) - Spring, 20 pts
The overall festival playlist rewards, however, are nothing new:
  • Audi S1 - 80 pts
  • Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder - 160 pts

Acceleration Car Pack DLC

Alongside the new challenges and potential free cars (earned by completing objectives), there is yet another new paid-for car pack.

This optional downloadable content pack follows the likes of February’s European Automotive Pack and January’s Chinese Luck Stars set - that means four new cars that cannot be earned in the game, retailing for £3.99/$4.99/€4.99.

It will include:
  • McLaren Sabre (2021)
  • Ginetta G10 Remastered RM (2019)
  • Ford Supervan 4 (2022)
  • Shelby GT500 (1967)
The DLC pack will be released on 26th March 2024, with the Festival Playlist and Race Off challenges beginning on the 28th.

What do you make of the now-monthly DLC packs for Forza Horizon 5?

Makes me not want to play the game at all. Honestly, after they introduced live-service with the whole playlist thing in FH4 my enjoyment of Horizon went down significantly. If you want to collect everything you can't miss a week. I force myself to do these repeating challanges/races I would have no intention of doing otherwise, leaving me with not having any motivation to do anything actually fun in the game. Now, even if you own all the base DLC, Car Pass, etc. you have cars that you need to pay even more for on top of everything. Sounds fun.

We will probably see all these cars in FH6 anyway... and cars taken out of the base content will be readded as "free" content.

That's basically what happened to me. Spent a few months trying to keep up before realising I didn't really care. And since so many cars were repeated as prizes it came to the point I would look at the playlist and realise there were no new rewards so why bother? I haven't touched FH5 since before the Rally update and none of this update makes me wanna play again, or feel like I've missed anything at all. WOW ANOTHER FORD TRUCK. BFD Turn 10, BFD.

Its such a throwaway game IMO.

You can literally just drive any car over any terrain, there is zero progression essentially either.

The first Horizon was much better.

On a side note, The Crew Motorfest is far better than these new Horizon games.
