Automobilista 2 Update Incoming

Formula Ultimate Gen2 and Stock Car Pro Series 2022 are landing on Automobilista 2 very shortly.

In the last few days, Reiza announced a tonne of update and development news for AMS2. So let’s take a look at what they revealed.

The Formula Ultimate Gen2

This new addition to AMS2 is Reiza’s interpretation of the 2022 F1 regulations. The new regs are a shift in thinking of the way aero is used to create downforce, creating cleaner air for the car following, which should result in closer racing. The new regs have also increased the weight of the cars by 46 KG, and the cars are fitted with larger wheels with lower profile tyres. Reiza couldn’t resist the chance to develop a car for AMS2, based on these rule changes and so the Formula Ultimate Gen2 was born.

In AMS2, there's already a Formula Ultimate 2019, which is based on the 2019 Formula 1 regulations. The new car has more advanced ERS modelling with adjustable options of deployment modes, revised V6 engine and revised sound, and revised drafting affects.

Reiza will also be implementing several of the new developments to the Ultimate 2019 car.

Stock Car Pro Series 2022

Reiza will celebrate a 13 year partnership with the Brazilian Stock Car series this year. A new track will be added to AMS2 - the Galeao Airport Temporary track, which will provide a venue for Stock Car’s return to Rio for the first time in 10 years. Galeao will be available in AMS2 before the real event, which takes place on the 10th April.

Whilst no new cars will be available, Reiza has thoroughly revised the two models available to drive in this series. The Physics of the cars has been reword, tyres have received a major update, with extensive developments to the carcass. The updates that have been deployed for the Stock Cars will also be applied to other cars in the coming months.

The F-Ultimate Gen2, the Stock Car Series 2022 and Galeao will all be free and added to the base game.

New Steam Beta Branch.

Not to be confused with AMS2 Beta. From v1.3.5.X onwards, updates will be deployed to the Beta branch for a few days. This allows the user base to provide feedback and report bugs they might find.

To access the Beta branch - right click on AMS2 in the Steam library, go to properties, beta tab, and select “Beta” branch from the drop down menu. Once the official update has been deployed, the user will be reverted back to the default branch of AMS2. If players want to opt in again for the next update, they will need to repeat the process above.

Players can revert back to the default branch at any time, players may want to opt out, or they may have come across a bug, or they may want to compare the changes implemented. To access a previous version - right click on AMS2 in the Steam library, go to properties, Beta tab, and select “PreviousBuild” branch from the dropdown menu. To revert to the current build, repeat the above process and select “None” from the dropdown menu.

Further Updates and DLC

  • Nürburgring 1971 is currently being worked on and will be free to those who already own the Nürburgring Pack.
  • Spa Francorchamps 1970 will be delayed. The push back is a result of further work required for the Spa Pack, which will include the revamp to the 2022 layout.
  • The third part of the Racin USA will focus on oval racing and is planned for release before the end of July.
  • A fourth bonus of Racin USA will also be available and is expected to arrive sometime in early 2023.
  • All other DLC packs in the 2020-2022 Season Pass are still planned to arrive before the end of this year.

I love this! Means you get a full season of circuits for Stock Car 2022 in AMS2! That kind of completeness is strangely unusual in sim racing anymore... wish there was more of it. I personally love driving the funky and unusual 'lesser-known' circuits raced by real-world series – like this, Houston in 90s CART, or V8 Supercars street courses like Townsville. Plus it enhances 'muh immersion' :p

And by the way (for the years they simulate) both AMS 1 and AMS 2 do an outstanding job of this for the Brazilian series they focus on!

I also find having all the period-correct tracks for a season (current-day or historical) allows me to focus on what makes each track special and fun, as opposed to getting bogged down in which tracks I personally like. The series drove it, so I gotta learn it!

it will be interesting to see which car they mimic for 2022
Well none, the 2022 car reiza made isn't even legal, the wing's too low and the front brake deflactors are not to the FIA's specs, the rest is more inspired by the FIA showcar which was never supposed to have a realistic aero package.

I don't understand how anyone can rate this game positively. Aside from the graphics it's a ridiculous arcade game.

The physics of the car is even more ridiculous, the multiplayer is embarrassing and I'm not talking about the players but the steps to get in and out of a server, but just for me is it a long and nerve-wracking procedure?

Setting the wheel is an almost impossible task, hundreds of "custom" settings without ever having a feedback worthy of a simulation game ... impossible because this is not a simulator but an arcade.

Please try AC with RSS in Imola and try the same car in AMS2 the comparison is embarrassing.

Every time I open it, I get sick of vomiting. Too bad I didn't ask for a refund as soon as it was tested.

I actually have fun with both AC and Automobilista 2, just like I can have fun with Strangers on a Train and Horrible Bosses. Why sim racers think that you can only enjoy one thing and not the other blows my mind.

I wonder if AMS2's F1 2022 cars will feature porpoising? ;)
Probably not, even the teams aerodynamic simulations struggle with simulating porpoising and the car didn't seem to have any in the one video of the car there is on youtube (on RafaBin's channel).

AMS2 is awesome and just gets better with each update. However, I can't help but feel they have other priorities rather than new cars? For example, I think many of the current cars are substandard. There are good ones with just a bunch of 'great' cars. I think there were too many cars at release. Better to just include a few good ones and then slowly introduce quality newer cars. At this point it would be better to scrub half the cars and just leave the better ones. It would help keep those that buy on a trial basis to have a good first impression and consequently not return the sim for a refund.
The problem is which ones do you you scrub? If you really like a type of car but it’s not quite right at the moment would you rather they got rid of it or continue to work on it. If the cars aren’t in the game you can’t get feedback from a wider group of players.

I’m guessing like alot of things round here everyones list of good ones would be a bit different.

I don't know, man. ACC and Raceroom both stick to that "full season" philosophy as well. They both seem to rely on their competition licenses (GT World Challenge, Intercontinental GT Challenge and British GT for ACC, DTM, ADAC GT Masters and WTCR for Raceroom) to provide them rights to most of the tracks they introduce.

It could've escaped your attention since majority of the aforementioned series are running GT3 cars and those probably aren't people's first choice for an immersive single player season, being played to death online.

good here is when I read some who think that the ultimate formula is arcade watch this video and frankly when I'm in my best time it looks like it.

Before anyone complains about the progress of the project, it's just a video game, an entertainment. Good luck to the studio in this delicate context.

When will we see a Netflix series on sim racing?

Episode 1: I started with Crash Team racing
Episode 2: I grew up with Gran Turismo 2
Episode 3: GTR educated me
Episode 4: ...
Episode 50: I still don't have enough money for a VR headset
Told my new girlfriend how much I spent on my wheel and wheelstand yesterday. Her eyes just went wide!!!! :p Though I will never go VR. I have motion issues and have to turn all the movement stuff OFF in sims. VR is never happening. So she can be grateful for that at least.

Tottaly agree. I am casual sim racer, but I played all modern sim racing titles and the most fun I have is in AMS2. I like rF2 too (UX aside), but for me it's like Dark Souls of sim racing :D
Okay, I've heard the phrase "Dark souls of..." for many, many things... But that's the first time I've seen it for sim racing. That's hilarious.:D
