Formula 1 is in Austin, Texas this weekend for the United States Grand Prix, with the driver’s championship still very much up for grabs.

Only six races remain in the 2021 Formula 1 season, and the title fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is still tightly contested. The two are separated by just six points entering this weekend, with Verstappen currently holding the lead.

This has been one of the closest battles for the driver’s championship in F1 history, with Hamilton and Verstappen and their respective Mercedes and Red Bull teams both assuming points leads in the championships at various times throughout the season.

The constructor’s championship is far from decided, but Mercedes’ current 30+ point lead seems to be the first sign of one team being the favourite to win so far this season. A late surge in the points from Valtteri Bottas has been the cause of the recent swing in Mercedes’s favour. His rival at Red Bull, Sergio Perez, has struggled lately but did join his teammate on the podium in Turkey.

Mid-pack, the exceptional season for McLaren has given the team in orange a 7.5 point advantage over their Ferrari rivals entering the last six races this year. The MCL35M looks to even have the speed to compete with the dominant Red Bull and Mercedes at various points in recent races. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will try and answer back in their Ferrari this weekend, coming off a race in Turkey where both finished in the top 10.

Track temperatures should be hot on Sunday for the race, with sunny conditions forecast and highs of over 30 degrees Celsius. Mercedes has won five of the last six F1 races held at Circuit of the Americas and will hope to put Hamilton on the top podium step to once again take the championship lead.

Fascinating...So, when Red Bull car improves, it's always good development and a hard working, dedicated team with the best drivers ever...when Mercedes does it, it's illegal and cheating and their drivers all suck....noted with thanks.

At least you guys are consistent, I'll give you that :roflmao:
When Redbull improves, FIA always investigating and then they have to change things, like rearwing, pitstops etc. Mercedes always gets away with is, so what's your point?

You may have a short memory but "party mode" was banned in 2020 and DAS in 2021. So I guess we should rather call it selective memory.
;)

Two things
1. I have been saying that the reason every other driver struggles in the Red Bull is because the car is setup for Max. Checko decided not to use the "Max Setup" yesterday and he was smoking.

2. I have to concede that if you put Max and Lewis in an identical car, Max would win 90% of the time.

Lewis has hit the point where he is driving like like most veteran athletes perform when they get older. They know too much about what can go wrong and try to avoid it all. This works until a younger, " I can do everything" , talented person comes along and doesn't give a **** about risk. It's all out for them.

The tide has turned. If you are Merc fan, wait for Russell. Lewis ain't all that anymore.

Start the hate, please.

Outstanding qualifying from both Sir Hamilton and Verstappen. Good luck for them both for the race.

I actually agree with you for the most part. Lewis hasn't had quite the same form since he got covid last year, may have affected him more than expected, especially during the first half of this season. On more than one weekend he would appear very tired and I don't think I've ever seen him like that pre-covid. I think that fact, coupled with him being at this stage in his career makes him take less risks...but Merc have made a few questionable calls this season, so there's also that. Whether he admits it or not we all know he wants WDC No. 8, so I'm cheering him on in hopes that he can pull it off one more time, as beating Max (who is the man to beat, no question) at this stage in his life would be a great coda to his career. Max will be a world champion eventually...I just don't want it to be this year :p

Russell may be a strong challenger next season, but I have a feeling Ferrari and McLaren are gonna be strong as well. I'm actually hoping McLaren continues their gains and can challenge for the constructors championship, as they have been my team for a long time and Ricciardo and Norris are steadily improving.

oh really? Excuse? From the Hamilton fans now it's the covid... and is he too old?
very coincidentally all .... if he suffers from covid he would not even be in the first places. LH has time to party in between what a joke

the truth is just that he hasn't had any competition for 6 years.

in other words LH could have easily had pole yesterday.

The difference between Max and Lewis is nothing!

Don’t see it as an excuse, more of an observation. I have noticed he does seem more out of breath at certain times on the radio lately, before Covid I don’t recall that happening much? Now seems to be rather regular.

Maybe his age does play a part? We all know as you age the body struggles, we have seen it with many great athletes over the years.

This is the circle of life, younger challengers enter the game and eventually take the crown. Question remains will it be this year?

No excuse, just saying from things I've observed in people I know who had covid...one of them is a close friend of mine and was an athlete on a national team here...his abilities (stamina mainly) hasn't been the same since then.

Not saying he will lose because of covid, just saying it might be one of MANY contributing factors to the outcome of the championship (just like you would probably say Silverstone would be a reason Max might lose). Whatever happens happens, but I'm just happy for the exciting season regardless of how it ends.

Also, attending a party and relaxing is a far cry away from driving a F1 car to the limit for 1.5 hours, wouldn't you agree?

So many excuses. At the start of the season there were a lot of talks about "how Max is finally seeing how good Hamilton actually is" or that "Hamilton still at his best".

Now, with the season almost done and Hamilton making a lot of mistakes, it's suddenly covid and his age. Then the bullshit that Hamilton is older and doesn't take risks, after trying to go flat at the inside of copse with a car right next ahead of him, understeering at 300kph+ right into the other driver.

LMAO!
