Just two races remain in this unforgettable 2021 F1 season, and both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships are still hotly contested as the teams head to Saudi Arabia.

Most Formula 1 fans are feeling some combination of excitement and exhaustion entering the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix this weekend. On one hand, the most tightly contested F1 championship in many years is a racing fan’s dream, but on the other hand the off-track drama has been a racing purist’s nightmare.

Amidst this on-track versus off-track furor, the 10 F1 teams and drivers are focused on securing or advancing their positions in the championship standings. Max Verstappen sits eight points ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the drivers’ standings. The pair have combined to win all but four races so far this season, and a win by either driver in Saudi Arabia will have a significant impact on the title outcome. A win by Hamilton will close the gap to two or fewer points entering the final race, and a win by Verstappen would reduce Hamilton’s hopes of taking the title to a few unlikely outcomes in Abu Dhabi.

Mercedes and Red Bull are just five points apart in the constructors’ standings entering Saudi Arabia. Valtteri Bottas was the first race retirement in Qatar, which limited Mercedes’ points to the 25 collected by Hamilton. 2nd and 4th place finishes by the Red Bull drivers gave them a significant points surge to help narrow the championship gap. Like the drivers’ standings, a lot is on the line in Saudi Arabia for the teams.

Jeddah Corniche Circuit is host to the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and should make for a compelling showcase of how fast the current generation of F1 cars is. Nearly 80% of the lap at this street circuit will be flat out for the drivers. Despite being over 6 kilometers long and encompassing 27 turns, qualifying laptimes will be well under one and a half minutes.

All eyes will be on the front of the field this weekend in this high-stakes race. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below on how you think this race will play out.

Merc have chucking in everything to give Lewis the fastest engine on the grid, Max is having to drive 110%, hence he will make more crazy moves.
That is why to make it a better championship you need to make the cars more level on performance.
Look at how Lewis and Max despatched Ocon.
Anyway the race was held in a country where the state kills jornalists and uses slave labour, this is a nice destraction for them.
Vile kingdom, vile theme park track....
Anyone excited by this 2 horse race must not watch MotoGP.

Well, here we are then. Winner take all at AbuDhabi.

My only slight disappointment is that Hamilton is not 1 or 2 points ahead (ie within the difference zone between 1st and 2nd), because now Verstappen still has the opportunity to take them both out and win the World Championship. If Hamilton was that tiny little bit ahead, that option wouldn't be available to Red Bull.

Hopefully, it'll be settled on the track. (Not cutting straight across the runoffs)

If you are as disgusted as I am with Max's driving today and want a better Formula 1 without Max Verstappen, please like this comment.

This is absolutely not the Formula 1 I want to see. I have lost all respect for Max at this point and honestly even if he would win this year he will not deserve it in my book. I am NOT an Hamilton fanboy and never was but I certainly earned a lot of respect for his clean driving all year long under these circumstances. That brake check along with all the aggressive driving he showed all year is just such a very low standard for formula 1. Glad it is only Max that is showing that on the grid.. So yes, Formula 1 would be in a better place without him in it for me.

I sure am glad he did not choose the Belgian nationality, I would be ashamed.

Could you be done by now? That "muh Silverstone" salt as reply for the dozens of Max's near suicidal moves is boring.
It would also allow for everyone to actually discuss the racing instead of that blah blah.

Thanks.
i say what it is when you accuse Max of his driving behaviour.. maybe you don't want to hear it but that's not my problem

What are you talking about? in my opinion you never said anything nice about Max you sprinkle salt without saying something the formula 1 should thank Max and Merc de Fia for all the great decisions this year that allowed them to come back

The telemetry says 'brakecheck' with 2.4g of deceleration. Can't really argue with data.

What a sad and underhanded way to try and win a race...

Max is a very capable driver, no argue about that, he knows very well what he did there and it was on purpose. That should have been a black flag. You don't want to see that in racing, it is so dangerous. Luckily Hamilton got quite unscaved out of it.

2.4G.. You can't even brake 1G with a road car if you wanted it.

they are starting to look like Merc the over speed was also quickly covered up. i have not heard any reports from reliable sources, probably another british F1 journalist?

I guess the Max fanboys will become FIA fans after all :)
All of a sudden: not corrupt, no mafia...
As much as I dislike Max's on-track ethics, it's good they leave the result as it is.

They should have given them 5 seconds each :p

I found how Lewis dropped way back going to the grid and also the way he slowed and sped up under VSC unusual to say the least.
What is the rule ? or did Max make up that 10 car gap himself

we're not talking about Silverstone's 52g anymore...we forgot what a joke. Merc himself started playing dirty games this year :roflmao: :whistling:

I'm sorry but at this point anyone who still supports Max is in love with him :inlove: Love makes you blind..

Imagine Hamilton doing the same things and you would be tearing all over these forums.

no it wasn't king lewis his fault maybe he's driving too close to max

Hamilton didn't like the place where Max wanted Hamilton to pass, so he stayed behind Max because otherwise Verstappen could have an advantage with his drs, then claps behind Max and Verstappen gets a 10 sec penalty,

If you listened to the communication with the FIA: Red Bull made a remark about the 10 car gap and the reply was that this 10 gap rule does ONLY apply during the main warming up lap, NOT with a re-start.
Another FIA conspiray? No, just the rule book.

ohh do they really have rules?? which should always be the same. I think I'll just move to nascar or indy car there is at least racing

well after Silverstone I lost my respect that is well known by now and neither from Toto

Are you really deaf dumb and blind?
You say that cerebralvortex NEVER said anything nice about Max.
So I am asking you: what nice thing have you ever said about Lewis?
Don't you understand?
Never mind.
If you read back on some other threads I actually said I would respect Max if he would start being a respectable driver. He has a lot of talent, such a shame he has to win no matter the cost. You probably can't blame him as he was taught to be this way by his father. I don't know about that of course but I'm guessing that is what happened.

I agree that my comment of Jos Verstappen was not ok. So I removed it. But I still feel Max should adapt to other ethics on track. And all this FIA mafia nonsense... well yeah...
