Who will win World Drivers' Championship?

With three races remaining on the 2021 F1 calendar and both driver and constructor championships still to be decided, the Qatar Grand Prix looks to be yet another exciting race.

Week after week in 2021, it seems like the driver's championship is not yet decided, but momentum appears to be favouring either Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen. This is the situation we find ourselves in again as the field heads to Qatar. Hamilton's new engine in Brazil helped him to gain 25 positions over the course of a sprint race and grand prix weekend, and appears to have put him in a position to challenge Verstappen's 14-point advantage in the remaining races. A season full of surprises and twists, however, makes it unlikely that the narrative at the end of the year will be as simple as "Hamilton's new engine helped him win the remaining races and take the championship". Penalties, strategy calls, DNFs and weather may still have a significant effect on this battle.

Like the driver's championship, each time the constructor's championship appears to be close to a conclusion, something happens to draw Mercedes and Red Bull back into close contention. Entering Brazil, for example, the two teams were separated by just one point. A double podium finish from Mercedes has expanded that lead to 11 points.

Also in the constructor's championship, Ferrari has surged ahead of McLaren after an excellent showing at Sao Paulo, with Ferrari claiming the 5th and 6th spots and taking a 31.5 point lead over their rivals. McLaren managed just one point in the race, with Lando Norris finishing 10th and Daniel Ricciardo retiring on lap 49.

News broke this week that Antonio Giovinazzi will be leaving the Alfa Romeo F1 team after this season and joining Formula E. He will be replaced with current F 2 driver Guanyu Zhou. Zhou will drive alongside Valtteri Bottas next season, as Kimi Räikkönen is planning to retire.

Let us know your thoughts entering the Qatar GP this weekend in the comments below, with so much still to be decided in the three remaining races.

Did not expect this podium at the end of this race. Great outcome of the race!
RBR better tactics around that 1 point fastest lap.

an absolute dominant drive from Lewis, maximum damage limitation for Max and butt-clenching podium for Alonso, not a classic but my expections have been surpassed for what looked like a dull track

on route for a showdown in Abu-dhabi like we had in 2016, and i'm more and more starting to believe that a senna-prost or Schumacher-Hill/Villeneuve scenario is actually on the cards :cautious:

Man it was great to see Alonso get a podium, but I feel like that VSC screwed the end of the race. Would have been nice to see what would have happened to all cars in a 1 stop strategy.

Sooo verdict, the only useful/interesting part of the track is the straight.....what a waste...let's hope the 2022 cars will make a difference.....

D
Same for Hamilton etc.

Calling this out kinda makes you look like a fanboy from the other team. Not the best way of keeping the high ground ;)
People have all sorts of weird and wonderful perspectives in this RD F1 forums so they can think what they like , too many have proven their opinions not worthy of consideration. So don't worry about it, I surely won't

Not the best race of the season, pleased for Alonso getting third. Looks like Horner is in trouble for some comments which he has made.

Mercedes in Hamilton's hands were on a different level today, Bottas was no where. Lando had a decent drive until the pit stop, think they were being cautious due to the punctures. Those kerbs need looking at if F1 are to return there, but I believe it's going to be a street circuit from 2023 onwards.

Would not call it a dominant drive as the mercedes has so much more bhp than the Redbull, in fact Max is the one driving magic

the mercedes was indeed on a different level but actually it has been that all season especially the last six races… it is max who squeezed everything out. Without the puncture in Baku... the torpedo from Bottas, he would already have been world champion. And then I'll leave Silverstone out for a while… all zero points matches. To me it's pretty clear Max the best driver Merc best car again to xx years you can't call it competition

Max did do well today, making the moves early on. But why no credit for Lewis? bitter?

I'm more and more convinced this is being orchestrated now, the script is perfect for hollywood big production staring Will Smith as Lewis, the fight back against "all odds", the support of BLM and other celeb style wokeness.... and the securing of title number 8 to be all time GOAT.....it's just perfect. :(

REALLY crap day for me as I'm a JR/Kawasaki fan as well. :(

You are reckless to expose their plot in such a public place. They will be after you too if you interfere with their evil plans.
