Toyota Celica
Following the successful showing of EX-1 at the 1969 Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota developed the series A20 Celica as its first real image/pony car. Similar in style to EX-1, it was a pillarless coupe styled with sloping indicators and wrap-around bumpers, that led to its "Daruma Celica" nick-name. Available with a range of engines, it soon became popular.
Following the celica's first racing success in 1971 in Japan at Fuji Speedway, came probably it's most famous wins with a 1-2 victory at the 1972 Japanese Grand Prix in the 1600 race with Tachi at the wheel, and a win at 1972 Suzuka 500 for the 1600GT-R (Racing) for Hasagawa and then Takahashi at the Suzuka 1000km event.
In Europe, the Swiss Toyota A.G.(Schweiz) cars developed with Ove Andersson, took two significant ETCC class wins in both the Nurburgring 6 hours and the Spa 24 hours.
Following the oil crisis in 1973, Toyota scaled back its factory racing efforts, but the celica was still a popular race car that was often seen on many European and British circuits, including the BTCC, the celica also raced in the Philipines and at the Macau circuit with Peter Chow and others where in Group 5 form it was still fighting for outright positions in the mid to late 70s.
This mods physics represents a combination of a number variations of racing celicas - the TA22 1600GT is a combination of the ETCC group 2 and JDM spec, the TA22 1600GT-R (Racing) uses the 151E 16V engine (as found in the Swiss Toyota A.G.TE27 group 2 in 1975), a RA 21 2000GT as run in 1973 JDM spec (TMSC-R) and the Swiss / Peter Chow Group 5 2000GT with a 152E engine.
PHYSICS NOTES//
The 1600GT is intended to be competitive with the Scirocco, Golf and some other 1300, 1600 and WIPs (Bellett GTR 1970-1973 racing spec etc).
The 2000GT is based on real specs for the JDM 1973 RA21 Celica raced at Fuji and other Japanese circuits - The 1600GT-R is based on JDM weight, but as no complete engine spec was found, it uses the figures quoted for 151E used in the 1975 ETCC. These cars are different in character but both are fast enough to run with the RX-3 and Skyline GTR by CY-33 and Friends.
The Group 5 was competitive with the 911RSR (Silverstone 1976) and is competitive with some of the faster original GTL GTC-TC-76 cars.

- the mod is linked to GTC-TC-76 class and the Ford Escort RS
