Name one car that competed in all of the following events:
24h Race on the Nordschleife, 24h of LeMans, 24h of Spa, 24h of Daytona, Bathurst
Hardie Ferodo 1000 and the 1000km Rennen of Fuji. If your answer was 'Ford Capri'
you might be right. If your answer was 'Mazda RX-3' you re right for sure! Since
the Skylines by Nissan appeard to be unbeatable in japanese racing, it was time
for Mazda to reinforce its RX-2 Capellas with their new Model. Mazda typical for
the RX series the new RX-3 was equipted with 'the engine of the future' the
Rotary or Wankel Engine.
The car made a more than perfect debut in september 1971 at the Fuji 500 Miles :
after 49 consecutive victorys it was not a Nissan Skyline to cross the finish
line first, but instead a blue and white Mazda RX-3 with a green grill took its
first triumph in the rainy Highlands of Fuji. Admittedly, the Nissans had
technical problems the Mazda profited of - but this victory sure made the RX-3
legendary. Another victim of this very drivable racecar was allmost the foreign
competition from Germany, when Ford came to Fuji 500 Miles Tourist Trophy Race
with their Capri Works cars. BMW and all the other European teams where not
present, so it looked like an easy strike for the top drivers like Mass and
Glemser. The picture changed, when after 73 laps there were 3 Mazdas
infront the first Capri. After 102 Laps there was still a Mazda leading in front
of a Capri on the second. If not problems on the breaks would have forced this
Mazda to a longer Pitstop, another sensation would have been perfect!
Inside and outside Japan the winning run of the Savanna was on the move. It took
the title of the japanese touring car championship '73, '75, '76 and '77, won its
class in Bathurst '74, '75 und '79 and also took home a 5th (1975) and a 7th
(1977) place, outright. It won many races in SCCA and IMSA RS Series and drove in
all famouse endurance races, worldwide. Until today the RX-3 is represented in
Rally and Racing, specialy in Australia and USA, but also in Europe, where it
still makes spectators skin crawl by its brutal rotary engine sound, when it
hunts for its next victory.
(Thanks to Grojosan for many Infos)
This Mod for GT-Legends features two versions of the car: One "big" is to compete
in the GTC-76 class. The "small" one should be in a TC-76. Since there is no such
class you will find it in the TC-65 class. Skins feature original cars from past
and present. The cars also offer many varietys in chassis, wheels, interiour and
spoilers that are all modeled after originals. Since in many cars our source
pictures where not of the best quality you might notice some small divergences to
the original, but we hope you have fun with this best result we were able to
make.
