Ford Cortina MK3 v1.0

untitled.png After the illustrious racing careers of the mk1&2 Cortinas, especially in Lotus guise, the mk3's were somewhat overshadowed by the sportier Escorts and Capris. With no real high performance version available in Britain racers looked elsewhere for potential race winners. But dig a little deeper and you'll find the humble mk3 did indeed appear in various events. The Avon Tour of Britain had mk3's entered in both '73 and '74 and in circuit racing Bill Vero and DJ Noel Edmonds campaigned 2000GT's. More recently a V6 powered South African XLE was raced by Martin Doherty so at least there were a few racing mk3's to build...
There's seven cars included in the mod, five of which are real;
09 Martin Doherty.
Homologated as a South African XLE, this had a 3.0ltr V6 and was raced in the Classic Touring Car Racing Club series in 2008.
50 Stuart McCrudden.
This Red, White and Blue 2 door GT was entered in the 1974 Avon Tour of Britain. If you have the tour dvd it's the car doing donuts on the grass during a Rally stage!
55 Max Aitken.
SVX933K was actually Stuart McCrudden's 1973 Avon Tour car but i've used the name of his co-driver from that year to avoid in game issues. I recently discovered the car still exists and is being restored to it's orange and white Tour livery.
58 Bill Vero.
This is a later version of the #55 car that raced in the 1974 Britax Saloon Car Championship.
117 Noel Edmonds.
At the time Noel was known to millions as a DJ on BBC Radio1 but he also raced various cars in the mid 70's and in 1974 had a season in this Cortina 2000GT. Not too much infomation exists about it's racing career but Noel did recall it didn't handle very well!
There's a couple of fictional racers too;
18 Broadspeed.
I've always loved the Rolls Royce Regal Red and Ford Silver Fox Broadspeed colours so just had to make this as a tribute to what might have been. I also discovered while reserching the 70's Cortinas that Ford used the mk3 to homologate the Warrior Twin Cam head so that's the reason this version has 249bhp under the bonnet!
25 SCC
A V6 powered 2dr GT in honour of my friend Craig who's a walking Cortina encyclopedia and helped gather a huge amount of information for this mod. He even designed the colour scheme and likes the car so much he's thinking of building it for real!
There's a template and genstring guide included so you can design and build your own creations too.
There's a few people who deserve a mention and without whom this mod would have never been finished;
Firstly a massive thank you to Carface/ Bigfoot2003 for giving me permission to convert and modify his superb original work.
Huge thanks also to ga2jo for making the 2 door version as well as sorting various other bits of 3d and then mapping the body and even sorting out a template. What a star!
Many thanks to Carsten (aka DeepStrike) for sorting all the technical data into proper Cortina physics and then building 4 different engines for it!
Big thanks also to...
jandri for making and releasing the improved Escort sounds that i've used for the 2ltr cars
Kostas at Brick Yard Legends for allowing me nick to stuff from him, specifically the RS 4 spokes but probably loads of other bits too that i can't remember!
BigTam for allowing me to use the Revolution alloys and gorgeous Minilite wheels.
Milotek for the Slot Mags. Very 1970's...
Cooky of Team 21 for allowing me to make the Rostyle wheel option by using wheel centres from their excellent Kadett C mod.
Mickey86000 for helping with the physics and also for beta testing along with Mof and Tanjaschnute
GeeDee for not nicking any of the wheels while giving me help and advice on improving things before release...
Oh yeah, i should probably say thanks to Ney Dias too who's persistant nagging managed to get me back into modding after i'd lost all interest in it.
To install, unpack the rar file to a temporary folder, open up 'FORD_CORTINA_MK3' and copy the 'GameData' folder into your main GTL install and click 'Yes' to 'Overwrite?'
