ClearGT: Transparent Car Previews

On the quest to modernise Assetto Corsa, one of the biggest changes I've made is to re-work the car previews into a more modern approach.

The backgrounds of the car previews are now the same colour as Content Manager's Light, Dark and Black themes respectively. They're not actually transparent, they're just the same shade, giving them the look of transparency. These also include custom reflection maps to remove the messy and unncessary reflective lines in the standard previews, showing off the car's natural curves without the complications.

Option '02' is a more side-on view.

There's also a Light version, for those wanting a crisp GT4 vibe.

And the same in black.

There's also matching Showrooms, with a lovely pre-rendered look due to their anti-aliasing settings.

Updating Previews

Note: The full paid version of CM is required.
  1. Double click the preview files to install them into Content Manager.

  2. Change your theme to Light, Dark or Black. Navigate to: Settings > Content Manager > Appearance. Do not use any background image or any transparency effects.

  3. Now to update the previews. Navigate to 'Content', then 'Cars'.

  4. Click on any car on the left.

  5. Click the tiny arrow next to 'Update Previews' at the bottom of the window, then click 'Options'.

  6. Select the new preview you'd like to use at the bottom of the preference window, then click the 'Update Selected Skin (without confirmation)' button (box with a + in it). This tells Content Manager that this is the default skin to use.

  7. Quit the preview, and select all cars in the left list (click one, then CTRL+A).

  8. Click the drop-down at the bottom and select Look > Update Previews.

  9. Click 'Update XXX cars' when you're ready. This may take a few hours depending on the number of cars

Updating encrypted cars

It's now possible as of the latest Custom Shader Patch (CSP 0.1.80-preview218) to generate previews for encrypted cars. I've included an 'Encrypted' version of each light, dark and black previews, both front and side on, for encrypted cars.

To update encrypted cars, perform the following:
  1. Ensure you have CSP 0.1.80-preview218 installed, or the following option will not be visible
  2. Navigate to Settings > Content Manager > Custom Showroom, and enable the 'Use CSP for final previews render' option.
  3. Using the 'Encrypted' version of the ClearGT previews, update the encrypted car's preview.
  4. Return to the previous menu and disable the option.
Note: The previews look slightly different in terms of reflections and lighting, as the 'Use USP for final previews render' is very limited in options. It uses the in-game engine to capture the car's screenshot, so naturally this will look different to the original showroom. It's not recommended to use this for all cars as the end result isn't as desirable, so be sure to disable the option once you've finished, and use the regular previews for non-encrypted cars.

Troubleshooting
  • If, when attempting to update all previews, you're finding that it's updating to a different/old preview and not the new one, re-read step 5 and 6.

  • If your open wheel cars are having Halo issues, open the preview again (step 5), click on 'Car' in the preference pane, and select/de-select 'Halo'. Save this as a temporary preview.

Thank you so much for making CSP enabled preview presets, looks really good.
Mod is excellent.

However, it seems that with the latest CSP, the dark encrypted previews has a slight difference in tone that causes a mismatch.

It's down to the user's settings. The encrypted method takes into considerations your CSP settings, runs the game, renders the car and saves it as an image to bypass the encryption. It's a good workaround, but it'll look different as everyone has different settings. Unfortunately there's no fix to this, unless you tweak yours on your end to match.
Ingenious solution to giving your AC a stylish, seamless interface and looks gorgeous!
Works absolutely fantastic for unencrypted cars. On the encrypted ones however; the background does not match the dark theme. Using the regular non encrypted preset seems to be a closer match than the encrypted one actually, but both of them result in darker backgrounds than non encrypted cars. Maybe I have some setting messed up somewhere? Despite that this is still an amazing tool to freshen up the ui.

It's an interesting one this. Unfortunately, everyone's encrypted backgrounds are going to be different because it relies on the in-game engine to take the photo. If your CSP settings are different than mine, our games would look different, therefore the thumbnails would too.

I don't think there's any way around this unfortunately! I'll dig a little more to see if there's a way I can place a backdrop in without it being affected, but I'm doubtful.
I can confirm the comment below, it truly is hardcore p*** for OCD'ers.

THANK YOU! So awesome that you were able to fix encrypted previews!
The last update just made those previews PERFECT.

The compatibility with the CSP final renders option was the only thing it needed and you just made it in literally one day after asking for it. I have no words and I really appreciate your work.

5/5, ofc.
Incredible work. I have over 1900 cars and having consistent previews for (almost) all of them is so nice. I was wondering if you could make a drivable version of the showrooms to bypass the problems that come with trying to make previews for encrypted cars? I think you should be able to replicate the angles in game and at least come up with something similar.

Thank you! Have a look at the latest post on the Discussion tab as someone has outlined out to work around it.

You're very kind, thank you.
Beautiful work!
For those struggling with the mass updating there is a tool in the CM : content -> tools -> update previews that allows you to easily do it first try all your cars. It takes a bit of time to update all but the result is gorgeous

Looks good, just imagine if the Big Preview was animated with a .Gif or something. Can you make a manual install upload? my CM seems to not want to install by clicking on stuff

That would be lovely. Can't do a manual one I'm afraid. I've updated the instructions though, give it a go.
One of the most beautiful previews out there. Using black and never going back. And also a tip for new downloaders - I used to struggle with mass updating previews, since they didn't seen to update to the new preset, but keep the old. The guide that has been written in description didn't work for me but I fixed the problem with this - go to content->cars->update previews(click the small arrow or CTRL+Shift+P)->then click on the preset->change it->click save preset->then save it to the folder->update skin without confimation and voila. Should work well.

Thanks for the kind words! Try the new way I've mentioned in the new instructions, should be nice and easy.
This is awesome, I can't seem to update all my previews in one go but not a big deal, I'll do it in groups.

Thank you for this mate, this is another banger just like the rest of your mods.

Update on my last message here, the only thing I didn't mess up with was the one that made it work haha. Just turn the slider for "UI Scale" in Settings>Content Manager>Appearance up. 110% is enough for me
The updated previews are nice. Must be placebo but I feel it loads quicker.
