Excellent skin, thanks! It seems to have a lot of specular paint in the rear left and right sides. Is that intended?

I'm not sure what you mean, as I wasn't playing with the materials at all. The entire skin is just one material, and should reflect the light evenly.

The Aston Martin is currently my fav car from the GT3 pack, so thank you very much for this great looking skin.

The car is still labelled #1 even though the number on the skin reads #97. Is there a way to change this?

Just create your virtual ride with this skin, and name it however you want. Never cared for the naming, it's a simple skin work, and everyone can do with it as they please.
