More fun again, GTL never fails to produce enjoyable racing. This is a really nice track, and quite a challenge for some of the slidey cars.
Race 1: BMW: Chose the Beemer first since it seemed very nice to handle here, the Escort had me a bit concerned, so I thought I'd work up to that car. The BMW was a real pleasure to drive, didn't quite have the speed of some other cars but handled beautifully. Qualified about P7 ish, and latched onto Stuart's tail for a few laps but then ran into the fence at the tight right hander, dropping me back in front of Bob. We had a good race together for most of the race but I was able to hold a small gap that was very slowly reducing. Looking at my XD, I could see Neil catching us both quickly, and just as the three of us bunched up into the hairpin, Bob and Neil touched, sending both into the kittylitter. From then it was a lonely cruise to finish P6.
Grats to Amir for the win, and WD to Gary and Steven (who almost had this in the bag
).
Race 2: Escort: I must admit, this car put the wind up me during practice, a tricky devil indeed. Managed to keep it under control to grab pole in Qualy, but by now, everyone is well aware of my lengendary starting prowess
. I'm sure Gary, behind me, was fully prepared.
Sure enough, totally bogged it down off the line, sigh!! AGAIN
. Immediately dropped to P4 and into a tight scrap behind Philip. I managed to pull off a slipstream pass on Philip down the main straight in lap 2, but Bob and Gary had bolted to a 4 second lead already. As they battled for the lead, I was starting to haul them in, but then Gary had a "porsche spin", and that allowed Bob to settle in and dictate terms up front. The gap stayed pretty constant at around 4 to 5 secs all race, and Bob wasn't making any noteable errors. Over the closing stages, Bob slowed, trying to eek his fuel out, allowing me to finish right on his tail.
Grats to Bob, a very good win, and WD to Stu for third.
Thanks Stu for yet another enjoyable event, and thanks to all who joined us.
