Besides the real race was organized the Virtual/LAN VW FunCup 25Hours .
Placed just above the new F1 pits , in a totally equiped 600m² room , about fifty sim racers met up for this world first.
Qualifying :
At the end of the Qualifying session , the order was as follows : Gtweb-live , Delahaye Racing Team , M&M’s . The 3 favourites were grouped in the same second , guaranteeing a very tight race !
Racing Day :
4 p.m , every team starts , for a crazy race . Very quickly the 3 leaders are joined by the n°5 MadCroc car . After 5 hours , these 4 cars are still in the same lap .
The other teams were doing their best , but can’t keep up . The first award is already in sight , as VW has offered a run as co-driver to the leading team at midnight .
Reaching midnight in the lead is the Delahaye Racing Team , with only a 4 seconds margin over the Gtweb-live , something amazing after 8 hours ! As a result , the 3 drivers are to meet up with the VW stand on Sunday afternoon to live an unforgettable experience .
Behind the 3 leading cars , several battles are taking place , and the standings are constantly changing .
With only 3h30 to go , the spectators present in the room can follow a magnificent battle for the lead on the big screen . Dje and Goos-Max are battling hard , and Dje finally takes the lead from the GtWeb-Live .
Though , this is forgetting the determination of the GTWeb’s top driver , Wolf produces an amazing last run to regain the lead , which he does for only 6 seconds over the Delahaye racing Team . In 3rd place comes the M&M’s car , 23 laps behind the winner .
Wolf makes some comments about his race : “ it was a terrific race ! I had never experienced such stress and suspense in my sim gamer’s life .
This race was very different from any virtual endurance race I had done before , for the simple reason that it was really “live” .As for me , every run was crazy ! Finally I take the checked flag with 6 seconds on the 2nd . Had there been 3 or 4 more laps , it would have been nearly impossible to win .
So here we are , we’ve won a day at the wheel of a VW FunCup . We leave this event with a lot of happy memories and meetings . For a first time , Congratulations to the organizors , it really was perfect . “
Atmosphere :
Outside , the engine’s noise of the real cars and the terrible heat made the atmoshpere very heavy . On the contrary , in the Virtual race’s room reigned freshness ( thanks to air conditioning ) and quiet , sign of the players’ great concentration . Spectators were numerous and were quite impressed by the drivers‘ skill as well as the difficulty of the game .
On the Organization’s side , the LAN wiring system knew no problem at all , all the computers could be connected and only one electricity cut at 1 a.m obliged us to reboot the server ( red flag on the real track as well , for the same reason ) .
Quite a lot of “real life” VW FunCup pilots came to meet us , and we were lucky to play against the winners to be of the 2010 race , Maxime Martin and Maxime Soulet , drivers of the yellow M&M’s .
The organization had installed a simulator so they could have a run from times to times . We could see Fred Bouvy , Pascal Mathieu , Armand Fumal , Nico Verdonck and some others race against our drivers .
Great thanks to them for coming .
This first edition can be called a success , and a second edition is already planned . Thanks to all the entrants , as well as to the sponsors who believed in this crazy project . Ntfrance.org and Kinetic09 Simulation will soon make an anouncement for the next edition .
