The SimFeedback-AC DIY Motion Simulator thread

Hey guys. Thought I’d create a thread for those taking the plunge into this brilliant DIY project..
I will be starting mine soon and I know there are others thinking about it.. so feel free to share your knowledge and experiences so we can all enjoy this platform to its full potential. A huge thanks to the developers who have really knocked this one out of the park!

For all the internals for the actuator contact Amy - skye@ntl-bearing.com
She can supply everything you need. Just remind her you want the ends of the shafts chamfered and make sure she sends the right sized ball screw - we have had a couple of issues reported. She is very helpful though and the cost is pretty good.

Huge thanks to @RowanH for writing a comprehensive user guide which can be accessed here - https://www.rowanhick.com/sfx-100-build-and-running-guide

In addition, @anton_Chez has contributed a list of post numbers for some of the important settings etc..

I will try to keep this page updated with links to source the parts in other parts of the world. Just post whatever links you have and i'll add them here.

Please note: Not all the parts listed below are essential for the project. For the essential parts refer to the original shopping list.

Mine was fine. I ordered 9th of November and then shipped 10 days later on the 19th, and received my order yesterday. Everything looks like it's correct.

I ordered on 13th of November (to US). Still no sign of tracking info. Asked for status today, but have not heard back. Some have indicated our order sizes are tiny so probably dont get the most attention...

The one I bought is slightly different spec, shouldn't matter tho, i'll know once I get my bolts and can start assembling lol :)

Thanks, I'd be very interested to hear if these are correct. I'd much prefer to order from AliExpress than a site that doesn't even list contact info.

I would like to understand why more and more people are trying to build the system with other Arduinos than with the Arduino Leonardo mentioned in the Wiki and on the website.

That never happened before.

Is it because you now have the choice to flash firmware for other models?

Just an idea: add a warning message at the flash tool like "Only a Leonardo can be used for motion rigs" or similar?

An alternative to Kinetic is to use the ITEM24 100x100 section, they have dealers worldwide. Details on the SFX website

@greenhut - FYI, I received a quote from the Australian distributor for Item24 extrusion, Modular Components & Automation in Victoria

4 pieces of 100mm x 100mm @ 250mm long including cutting, freight (Adelaide) and GST = $330

They advised they have "plenty of stock in our Melbourne warehouse so we can get this to you within a few days of payment confirmation".

Not sure how that compares to Kinetic pricing though :O_o:

Many thanks to @C64 for your hard work on making an alternative happen..

How are recent builders dealings with Kinetik nowadays?

Poor communication...
I ordered about 9 weeks ago and they got back to me after several emails.
Some issue with the transfer and the bank fees etc.
Got back to me couple weeks ago..... and all sorted out... got them yesterday.
They eventually get delivered.
:)

I paid about $430 shipped (kinetik)

Question for UK users.

Taking into account (all electrical components) when racing with this motion system and other hardware. What types of levels in electrical watts are being used?

I am a little concerned this and the multiple amps/audio hardware I have to power will be at the limits of a typical socket or extensions on short cables. Advertised power ratings are not always continuous so its hard to know.

Has anyone had any issues or similar concerns?
Can anyone link or recommend a good plug adapter for reading the watts/drain on components being used?

The SFX100 uses very little power.
I run my whole rig of a 6 gang power brick (with all the motors running from one plug).
So I have my SFX100, AF V2 DD wheel, Pearl Throne Thumper, Ultra Wide monitor and an LED light strip all running on the same extension.

Did you ever se the video that shows the SFX power consumption?

@ThugUK
Thanks for sharing that, good to know the SFX 100 isn't too power-hungry.
I ordered one of these too, I read that using extensions can reduce/limit the watts possible based on how long the cable is.

The filter is recommended to prevent spikes being transmitted from the servo drivers to the 230V power lines: without the filter other equipment on the 230V lines may suffer from the spikes. I recommend the Schaffner FN2070. EMI is also transmitted through the air, mostly by the servo power cables between the servo driver and the servo motor. Using a filter will not prevent this from happening: you need anti-EMI tape around the cables or replace the cables with shielded cables. Using aluminium foil works (do connect the foil to ground), but it looks messy and is hard to work with.

Total crap. Took them over two months. After first month of waiting I tried to call them, no answer at all. Tried emailing, tried their contact form, no reply to either.

Finally two and a half weeks ago got through on the phone. They told they had not noticed my payment by paypal. They promised to send the same day and I would get the tracking number and have the goods in 4 days. 3 days later still no progress of any kind, called again, got through, "you will have the tracking number in 5min". I didnt, as they were not sent. 5 days later (7 weeks since paying my order) i called, again "you will have tracking# in 5min". I didn't. Rinse and repeat a few times, and finally I got a tracking number which revealed it still had not beem sent yet.

While I realise this order was small for them at 250€ grand total, I just cannot understand this kind of heavy lack of integrity. Today when I finally got the goods (8wk after paying), I learned that the person messing everything up and giving me lies and empty promises on the phone was the managing director of the company. Apparently it is not a huge company...

Cant help but recommend to look for ITEM profile. It just cant be worse than dealing with such amateurs with total lack of integrity, like Kinetik Systems.

Kinetik was easy to deal with, $350AUD delivered to Queensland just for profile, and because I screwed up and forgot to order the inserts and t-slot nuts at the same time another $163AUD. They were nice enough to put it all in the same box and still charge me the extra shipping tho

Delivery took around 3 weeks I think, the order sat there doing nothing for about 4 days iirc.

I wonder if any Americans (or Australians or any other nationalities outside of the European continent) considered ordering ~10 sets of Kinetic profile and helicoils to resell so builders on their continent could get their parts more quickly. I think many builders would be willing to pay a premium to get these parts in ~1 week instead of ~6. I'm not volunteering, just thinking out loud.
