Car models are different so still won't be difficult to discriminate the clockwork oranges
About the numberplates, IMHO, we should stick to 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - ... as it reflects the team standings in the previous season.
With letters, will look strange, more like a sponsor than a numberplate, and confusing for casual viewers. The 1-2, 3-4, ... solution is more for an individual championship where you can think "ok, who is that car, nº1, then it's Button", but here nº1 can be any driver from a team, so it does not really add any info and makes the team numbers less representative of positions.
Of course this is very subjective, and we should discuss it for next seasons trying to find an optimal solution.
