Because that way, there can't really be a group stage or a mini tournament. 2v2 can happen with cross-play hopefully, as then there will be one tournament with 4 or so teams of 2, if teams of 2 are decided on.why not 2v2, each pc and ps4 has at least 4 players.
I like the 1v1 idea, this way you can show your "real skills", and not depend on your teammate
