One of my friends had the 6800GT in 2004, and I got a X800GT in 2005, even though the 6800 was more powerful, the X800 seemed to produce brighter better colours, also, 6800 sucked for HDTV 1080i playback, but x800 was fine.
I noticed a huge diff in all round image quality going to a 4850 in 2008.
