Welcome to the RD Racing Club. Today we're going to California USA, to a place that's called Laguna Seca or 'Dry Lagoon'. Like most dried up places it's usually very hot here and that's why the track is notorious for it's tyre wear.
But above all it's known for the famous 'Corkscrew' which is considered one of the world's most challenging turns!

Especially the new and inexperienced drivers are recommended to participate. There are a lot of learning opportunities like overtaking and blue flag situations but without the intensity and stress of the GT3 cars or the endurance multiclass cars. It's also good step up for those kind of events.

THE GT3 EVENT ON SUNDAY WILL ALSO TAKE PLACE HERE ON THIS TRACK!
By joining here you can learn the racelines, overtake spots and even the brakepoints of the track in a car that's less demanding than the GT3's and have a lot of fun at the same time.

  • Track: Laguna Seca
  • Track Temps: 34C air/47C track
  • Track Condition: Clear
  • 20.00 CEST, 19.00 BST (18:00 UTC) | Practice (1 hour 10 minutes)
  • 21.20 CEST, 20.20 BST (19:20 UTC) | Qualification 20min (10min TT, 10min MX5)
  • 21.40 CEST, 20.40 BST (19:40 UTC) | Race (40 minutes)
IMPORTANT:
  • Qualify is split (not forced, gentleman's agreement). First 10min for the Audi's, second 10min for the MAZDA's. Don't go on track in the window of the other car class.
  • Blue Flags: If an MX5 driver gets a Blue Flag from a TT, he has to stay on the racing line to be predictable. You can help the TT by lifting on the straight, but you don't have to! The TT driver is responsible for a safe overtake. Losing time doing this is part of the game and applies to any TT. If you receive a blue flag from your own class, the normal rules apply.

A message to all Drivers,



If you run off track, you have to check to see that its clear before you re enter the track. Do not just keep the gas pinned and pull back on track.

When entering the track from the pits, stay off the racing line until you are up to speed. Do not race on your out lap, let other drivers by. On re-entering the track stay off the racing line until you are up to race speed and do not block any fast approaching car.

Golden Rule
  1. If you hit somebody off the track and carry on like nothing happened, you take the risk of being banned for 30 days.
  2. Instead, you should always wait for the affected drivers, and that way you can be 100% sure you will not get a ban.
Track limits
  1. No more than 2 wheels over the white/yellow line without a lift of the gas please.
    You will be penalized if you break our rules

Shame I can't make this one. I just did a short session and I really love the Mazda on this track and was immediately comfortable.

I will have to settle for some practice time with Raul and Dave to see if I can set them a challenging lap time (or they can set me a challenge!).
 
I'm curious, why the 34/47 temps?
Well, it's very hard to get the Mazda tyres to warm up. And because I read on Wiki that Laguna Seca has often high track temperatures I thought it would be nice to use that and to help just a little bit for the Mazda drivers.

But a question for everyone: we are now racing with no wind and fixed grip conditions. Would you like to have more variety in track conditions, not only between tracks but also within the race itself and even on track?
Just to make it a bit more challenging and realistic.

The more parameters we have to account for the closer we get to real motorsports.
(If that is a good thing everybody has to decide for themselves.
We have a training server so everybody has the chance to do their due diligence)

Probably because Laguna Seca is in California and somewhere in the world should be summer right now?
Here in Germany it´s definitely not :cautious:

lol... actually Laguna is about 10 miles from Pebble Beach Golf Course with the wind nearly always off the ocean and the average high temp in May and June is 65F/18C... but once or twice a year the Santa Ana winds will come in off the desert so we'll go with that! It's Willow Springs weather with Laguna's track and surroundings, actually that's kind of perfect! (I'm in Minnesota USA and this week we had 85 degrees one afternoon this week and a hard frost the next morning).
In fact often when we'd go to Laguna the biggest weather issue was the cold briny fog and mist in the morning that would leave a sort of crust on the surface when the sun broke through in the afternoon.

Hmm, well there goes my trust in Wikipedia :confused:

Never mind, we have raced before with 40+ track temperature and the effect is minimal.
 
Laguna Seca... don't know what to do with that track. Didn't realize that we've moved back to SGP. If someones dropping out I'll take the seat. Audi preferred

excited for this race...just curious for those in the mx5, are we looking at sub 1:40s?? I know we don't really discuss these things, but I can't seem to figure out this track, and youtube isn't really helping. Would you say setup is not a big factor more than getting the lines right? :(

I'm with you there... had some practice with Doug in the weekend and realised the exit of turn 5 in particular is pretty defining (being uphill), as well as turn 2 (the Andretti hairpin) and the last corner. However, I do feel setup makes a difference on whether you end up below or above that time boundary consistently.
