For Nick: Honouring One of Our Own (1963-2018)

The Australian contingent of RaceDepartment are a tight-nit bunch, and earlier this month we were all incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of one of our good friends, Nick Milton, after enduring a long battle with cancer. To remember him, we are hosting a
memorial club race in his honour. Rest in Peace mate, I'm sure you're giving the big guy up there a shellacking out on track!

Nick was a frequent racer here at RaceDepartment, and whilst he may not have been fighting for victories, he was always a friendly presence on the (virtual) tarmac and on our TeamSpeak channel. Nick raced with us for several years, and in that time improved from a complete rookie making his first venture into the online SimRacing world, to a very respectable and competitive midfielder in some of our more recent championships.

Preferring open-wheeled speed machines, Nick was a stickler for hardcore racing. 'Make a mistake and lose a wheel? Too bad, that's racing', was always one of his mantras. So with that in mind, we will be taking the incredible McLaren MP4/8 for a spin around one of Nick's stomping grounds: Silverstone.

One of my fondest memories of Nick was a club race around Brands Hatch with the Ford Escort in Assetto Corsa. He loved that car, and he loved that track even more, where he told us about how he actually got to race Escort's around Brands Hatch in real life, when he was young, something most of us will never get the opportunity to try.

A British expat living in Australia, we'd always joke and banter about him being a Pom (or a "Pohm", as he'd always insist!), and he'd always be able to give it right back to us :roflmao:. Nick was equally as competitive about his racing as he was friendly, funny and understanding when having a chat on TeamSpeak.

Unfortunately, life sometimes deals a crappy hand, and despite his everlasting optimism, Nick was unfortunate enough to be diagnosed with cancer. He was never one to let it get him down, and he didn't talk about it often, so it was deeply saddening to log into RD on the morning of the 9th of October 2018 to a notification from Nick's brother, Dave, alerting us to Nick's passing earlier that morning.

Join us on Sunday the 11th of November as we give Nick a send off from his family here at RaceDepartment.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Nick's family at this time.

Nick Milton. 1963 - 2018.
Rest in Peace, mate.

My sincere condolences to his family and close friends.
I didn't know him, or even race against him, but it is always sad to read such a news.
I hope there is some electricity in the sky, in order to switch on the PC. If not the case, may we call it heaven ?

I lost a friend some years ago in about the same circumstances.
He was only 40 years old, and a brilliant simracer (GPL Rank -80).
At that time I created a track (Jops siffert - La neuveville) with my friend Jackseller, in order to never forget him.
I am very proud of the simracing community, which keep on racing the track on diverse simulations after all these years. (the track doesn't exist for assetto corsa, unfortunately)

A race is something great. I am sure he must appreciate.

Rest in Peace Nick.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

To be lost from this world at such a relatively young age is very sad.

A day early I know but I'm running the Remembrance Day event in the UK on the 10th November, and as we will be having moments of reflection at the start (and as it is a kind if racing event) I'll certainly think of him before I start the event.

Not sure if I'm available to to take part in the event on the 11th but I'll try :)

Sorry to hear that Alex,I lost my Dad suddenly in August,I know how you must be feeling and my heart goes out to you.

I was about to PM the person and wonder what was funny about it, but im choosing to take it as if it was a miss-click.
