Cars DRM Revival [Deleted]

I hope so. I don't see people hating on "omg FFB is so not how I expect", "omg not like typical Kunos car" so I assume three options:
  • People accepted different interpretations of such complex things as tires and steering mechanics.
  • The trend on disliking something different died out.
  • DRM mod team actually adjusted towards the audience. For example, like ACC done after first release.
I guess the only way to find out is to try myself, but you sound good, I hope it is as glorious. First car I'll drive will be M1, I think they absolutely mastered it, afraid it will be not as good and will be "improved".
I don’t know how much more you can beat that dead horse, but it’s really becoming rather excessive to bring it up in almost every thread you post in.... “omg ACC physics are a conspiracy.” They fixed an objective problem with the tires...that’s not “adjusting towards their audience,” it’s making their tire model better because it was broken.

And as for your other points, the IER car pack uses very different tires to what Kunos does and the cars have always been praised.

Tested 1N car and it feels as awesome as in first release, couldn't really tell if there was a bold difference. Perhaps FFB feels a bit more "involved", or maybe not, not sure. Still very much on my toes when driving it up to the limit, feels great and really immersive.

It is awesome that multiple compounds are available now.

The rain tire is really interesting, at first tried on dry track, and it does give interesting feeling of a car "swimming around" more, overheats sometimes, feels really grippy, but maybe not as precise, was slower. Then I tested it at my Goodwood Wet track, and it is definitely more suited for low grip than usual tires. Car doesn't have much weird icy feeling, breaks away rather suddenly, and grips up back, is twitchy, felt like it is more load sensitive. More rolling resistance maybe judging how different grips want to rotate the car ? Couldn't really tell if there was more speed sensitivity, but I guess it wouldn't make sense if rain tire would be used in the dry. But if it was only for "when it is wet" then it would be interesting how it would work.

As a quick workaround you could try this (I have not tried this as most of my racing is done online):

- BACKUP your content, specifically the data.acd file in each of the car folders (I usually just zip the original data.acd file for whenever I want to race a particular car online and want to make sure I retain the original file)
- remove the rain tire through the tire replacement menu in Content Manager on each car

This would be a quick and dirty fix. You will NOT BE ABLE to join a online server after doing this as this will change the data.acd file. In order to race online again you have to revert back to the same data.acd file the online server is using.
Thanks a lot for this explanation. :)

EDIT: it worked too :) They're all using the same tyres now in championship

@Billy Pilgrim By looking at the car list on their site, IIRC:
Div II (Gr.5 1.4T or up to 2.0L NA): 2002, 320T, Beta, Escort
Div I (Gr.5 >2.0L, which includes Capri's 1.7T): 935, K3, 308, M1, Capri, Celica

(unfortunately there's no lighter 81' overall winner 1.4T Div II Capri, even if there's the corresponding white "Hurtz" livery)

Depending on tracks, Div I and II ran together or separate.

So the 1.7 litre Capri was racing against the 3.2 litre k3?
Amazing!

Finally bit the bullet, as Gr.5 is my favorite series on R3E. Found some minor issues, not sure if all have been posted. Using vanilla AC on first testing:

1) AI Tyre choice: when setting up a race weekend some AI cars will run with M, E and Rain tyres on dry during qualify. On quick race they always select E (normal behavior).

2) For vanilla ac without Sol: Cockpit exposure is a bit too high when compared to default content, on most cars. K3s are the less affected, while both Fords are probably the most affected. This makes a Mid Clear blue sky at 14:00 almost white. Reducing overall exposure to about ~50-80% seems to correct it (page down key), depending on time of the day. This was tested with kunos default (as sugested in the manual) and kunos natural (less auto-exposure range) filters, to exclude modded behavior (such as shaders patch, sol, custom weather, etc).
Just check a default cockpit view with the default filter at 10h with mid-clear weather, use the "look back" button and see how much the auto-exposure will darken the image to reach normal levels, and then back to much brighter when returning to cockpit view. Fords will show the greatest difference. As an example, the Onboard Exposure setting for the Capri is currently 27, but to make it behave like stock content on default kunos (default/natural) filters, it'd require something much lower like 10-12.

3) Default driver positions for both RMT 120 are set very low and back, so the driver's collar shows on the middle of the screen and bottom corners (mostly under AC's high default fov). On the Carma sometimes there's also clipping in the top of the arms when turning or glancing (while racing), because the camera is set very low. (these are manually correctable of course, but could be cleaned up)

4) Log errors on many cars after a quickrace, their data files seem to require a small clean up:

5) Missing maps for rain tyres on the extensions folders for both drm_1h and drm_1h_2 (a fix was already posted in RD).

6) UI: There could be some descriptions to explain the difference between variants of the same car when the physics are different, such as engine, aero, etc. Missing Division 1 and 2 tags for separate races. All cars have "Group 5" on class, except for the RMT 1002 1, which has "Group5", this can mess up selection by class (example: chosing random>same brand and class on CM, it'll miss that car).

7) Regarding the real livery skinpack on RD: Some real brands for the interiors and gauges might be missing, as the Aero still shows CMR (instead of BMR?). For the drm_1n, the "BMW_M1_JA ZUM NUERBURGRING" livery should be named "BMW_M1_JA_ZUM_NUERBURGRING" instead, the folder name mustn't have spaces, so previews can be loaded.

8) Some cars missing opening doors on showroom, older poorer models not in line with other exceptional content. A much improved K1 has been previewed in the past, so there's still hope it'll come later.

Suggestion: An extra 1981 Marod Aero Division 2 (lighter and 1.4L) would be nice to face the Lardo Monastir. The 81' Div. 2 has a very similar to exterior to the Division 1 that is already present in the pack (which already features its livery), unlike the previous 80' version without ground effects. I wouldn't be surprised if the current Div.1 3D was mostly modeled after the restored Würtz #2 81' Div. 2 that Peter Zakowski races.

Other than these small nags, on my short testing, this pack provides all the fun I was hopping for.

PS: Couldn't test the rear engines coming from the front issue as I'm only on Stereo. But this should be addressed for 5.1 users.

Edit: Just forgot to ask, @dmatzies any estimate when or if the previously teased Div. 2 320T Flachbau and updated Kremer K1 models (link) (link2) will be included? I hope the later will replace the current drm_1h_2 model, which is one of the weakest on the pack, and some corrected parts (top of doors/roofline) of it will also improve the drm_1h (a 935/76?). Thanks!
Edit2: Cockpit exposure details on "2)".

For me this is the best car mod ever for AC. I only drive the 935 K3 and it's a blast, it's oversteery it handles so well with even cold brakes /tyres and when warm it's just heaven. Rest of the cars is also great, I love the Capri.
Oulton Park with 11 AI competitors is so immersive.
A question about graphics of the drm_120 and drm 120_2:
When inside cockpit and driver is steering heavily his arms are almost covering my whole screen(vs the same FOV/pitch/seat position etc on other cars) so to speak.
Is there a reason for that or do I have to adjust FOV/seat/pitch accordingly?
The drm_1001 and drm_1001_2 don't have that(as much)

Thanks for this great mod!

Cheers

Please check my post above, the default view position on the 120 is buried on the driver collar. At default 56º FOV you'll see those artifacts on the screen (actually that screen was capped at 54º). For the scenario above, it's needed to press a few "+" clicks on the "Seat Pos." of driver position app to clear the collar (it moves the view forward) and then save.

To avoid the arms clipping you'll have to raise the camera a bit (up arrow) too (you can also use only this adjustment without moving the camera forward), the same might be happening to you on the Carma.

My 935 K3 '79's revcounter in the dash behaves strangely. When on throttle the virtual revcounter just revs/goes up the way it should, but the one in the dash, the rev needle has a delay of lets say 'half a second' vs the pedal input and goes in 'steps' and not fluently.. What can that be?
The rest of the cars are fine.

?

It’s a feature of the shader patch, that’s how older tachs used to work. You can disable it in CM, under the general patch settings I believe. Will work normally after that.

Thanks, I changed it.
But seriously, a '79 K3 with a revcounter needle working like that?
I was 9 in 1979. I drove a 1961 Aston DB4 Superleggera and more vintage cars (I was working at a Jaguar dealership >20 years ago) and they had their revcounters behaving 'normally' so to speak.

I think it depends how the rev counter gets its data. Different cars from the same era used different methods, so it's not necessarily age-dependent.

The current implementation of the alternative tachometer is a very early simplified implementation. There will perhaps come improved algorithms in the future after higher priority features are implemented - soooo much different new features are in the works now ;-)

Until then use the alternative Tachometer implementation with care - I found it may be interesting to use on pre WW2 cars for example. There is already support to enable / disable this feature on a per car basis with an entry in the car config but it is still so new that only few modders have already updated their mod cars to switch this feature on or off.
