No you are quite right. It seems to me many german F1 "fans" made it their creed to hate every german driver that is succesfull...

It would be better for the fans if they did that.

It would in some ways, but if they stop worrying about disparities in the reliability of the two cars, or anything else that keeps the cars from being equal to eachother, then it could become very unfair.
