Recent teaser images suggest a sequel to the very popular DiRT Rally could be announced by Codemasters tomorrow.

DiRT Rally took sim racing fans by surprise back in 2015, releasing to Steam Early Access without so much as a clue as to its existence and providing a welcome return to a more simulation focussed take on the world of loose surface racing than had been the case of late.

Following up DiRT Rally with the less successful DiRT 4, it very much looks like Codemasters have a nice treat up their sleeve with various postings of "2.0" across the Codemasters social media platforms, including tweets from both the FIA WRX and the son of World Rallycross champion Petter Solberg.. indicating that a new version of the rally and rallycross title might well be in the works...

With speculation running rife as to exactly what this could mean, and almost as importantly when we will find out more, Codemasters have just revealed the image at the top of this article, accompanied by confirmation that an announcement is incoming tomorrow at 10:30BST...

Not long to find out what's happening. Let's get DiRTy!

If you guys were really expected (regardless of all developers talk about how latest game will be most realistic, lol, that's the talk older than Holy Book itself I believe) that DiRT 4 is really a successor of DiRT Rally they ...you're pretty naive type. DiRT rally 2.0 just may be. Not sure yet. I'll believe when I see it. Or should I say... when I feel it under my hands. Oh yes. :)

So a lot of sandy brown stages. I want green and grey. Snow.

Is this means NO SNOW ?!? What - a - hell ? Couldn't produce satisfyng snow physics or what ?
Let's hope New Zealand will be held on Mt.Cook itself. Or at least near by. :)

Here it is:

p.s.:
Already quite disappointed with the choice of countries, to be honest: No Finland, no UK, no Sweden, no Corsica, no Monte Carlo, no Portugal, no Sanremo, no Safari, no Germany.
No mention of Your Stage or Stage Editor either.

6 locations to come in DLC (from Dirt Rally 1 perhaps?):

"All pre-orders editions of DiRT Rally 2.0 will include access to the amazing Porsche 911 RGT Rally Spec as a bonus vehicle to use on the stages. In addition there will also be a DiRT Rally 2.0 Deluxe Edition which also includes the first two seasons of post-launch additional content, each with three locations (split between rally and rallycross) and five early vehicles unlocks (Ford Escort MkII, Lancia Stratos, Subaru Impreza 1995, AUDI Sport quattro S1 E2 and Ford Fiesta OMSE SuperCar Lite). The Deluxe Edition will also allow players to get their hands on the game four days early, launching on 22nd February 2019 and also includes upgraded starter cars for My Team, in-game bonuses and high reward events. More details about the seasons will be revealed soon."

No Snow... :-(
No Montecarlo :-( :-(
it might be matter of licensing? I think they said that for Dirt4 they couldn't get official stages from WRC as they were already licensed for the other games...
On the positive side, we won't wait for too long to find out if this is what we expect. I mean, if the game keeps improving on the simulation aspect, I'd be happy even if there's no snow at all...

I'm really not a big fan of these type of trailers as they are a bit "over produced" if you will and can make car movement look a bit strange even though it might not be when actually watching a real replay.

Wonder where the USA location is set? Might be somewhere with snow?

i really annoyed and expected a better trailer from a big company.
some thoughts about the trailer.
the graphics look the same, they added rallycross again even though people didnt want it, shoving pre order even though they didnt show any new features in the trailer, only showed 1 new car? not much focus on actual rallying in the trailer, annoying looking Instagram filters over edited arcade looking trailer.

Like I said... I just couldn't believe we won't get snow. So let's just hope I'm wrong.
Another thing... I actually loved that DiRT4 procedural track creator, why not using that here too, with some better version of course, since you could update the program now few years later ?
Really, it won't be here ? :O
Practically endless rally stages possibility and you just throw it away ???
But, praise the Lord... **** Porsche 911 RGT Rally is here, as a bonus !
Well thank you thank you Codies, you don't know how much that means to me. *** the snow, *** the Sweden, bring me that Porsch. For *** sake, if I want the **** Porsche 911 (Rally or not), I'll just crank up Assetto. Or Project Cars. Or **** WRC 7 ! Yeah, even that masterpiece has it inside. As a bonus car, ofc ! Oh God....

Sorry.... initial reaction to this... pile of....
Need to calm down a bit. Next post will be much more calm. Promise. :D

Codies have disappointed me since TOCA2, hints of magic but let down overall by the finer details. McRae & Burns I could not put down, blasting through clouds of dust over the Australian outback at breakneck speeds, jump after jump after jump, 2 tenths off your best, AGAIN, AGAIN. Dirt Rally after 2 weeks I was losing interest, go back every now and again but not getting the hook. Never got a good FFB feeling and as with all Codies titles, it sits in my Steam library, dimmed, as is my interest. Maybe I was younger then and expected less, certainly seemed to get more from less or did I, in TOCA2 at Knockhill, driving rain, a competitive opposition, all the thrills and spills of BTCC, yet bloody years ago, the majority of modern Sims are still catching up, slowly, golden era, maybe, golden Sims, most definitely not.

No Dirt Showdown2? What a disappointment...
Well, I think different environments from Dirt Rally is a pretty good move because we get something really new. What the point on getting the same environments and stages than the previous game? You want them, just launch Dirt Rally 1, or buy it for less than 10€.
I agree the inclusion of a track generator (improved) would have been great.

Didn't LSPR used to be held during the winter? Jan/Feb? That could be a snow rally. Wonder if Mineshaft will be making an appearance?

I've been told they won't be based as accurately on real stages as in DR, but that rally fans will still recognize roads from real ones within the stages.

Let's see how it turns out. The trailer itself is pretty underwhelming in my opinion, but these type of trailers always are.

If it's really as easy as you claim, just smack real numbers in and everything is set, why the endless tire model updates in AC for example?

For starters, that's not what I said. I talked about replicating a real life stage, and using GPS to track a virtual car within DR2. To mirror real world GPS performance to ensure accuracy.

Kunos weren't happy. Which is why it got so much work. Plus, to be frank, the early builds of AC were poor. AC was also (from memory) in a pre-release state for many years. We know how passionate Stefano is. What pushed his development was his passion, and because he knew it didn't go far enough.

Recently S397 said, that a fundamental part of RF2 wasn't accurate. It's getting more work. Fair play for them wanting to actually push the genre. Kunos certainly has much more meaningful data for ACC, due to new partnerships.

It would cost Codemasters lots of money, spending extra time working on making the physics models more realistic than previously. Had they wanted to push Rallying physics to the next level, they could have done that a very long time ago. Codemasters are happy to coast along and just do enough to make new games appealing to us. It's how they make huge profits.

Apart from post-release patches, Codemasters prefer to just release a finished project at a games launch. Post-release patches mainly fix bugs. They sell their games and move on to the next project. That's just how they work.

There is talk of a new physics guy on the team now, so maybe DiRT Rally 2 can be the game that DR1 should have been. They mentioned a "new and authentic handling model", so I hope they clarify this marketing hype with info/data to prove just how this is being done.

Calling it Dirt Rally 2.0 gives a little hope. But it could be also terrible, it's all down to physics.

Dirt 4 was terrible, and it was NOT arcade. It was simply a broken sim.

(As I've said before) if it was meant to be arcade, sliding in it would be easy. Arcade is about all things fun, and sliding is fun. Making an arcade rally game? You wouldn't make sliding impossible. You would make sliding piss easy. Easy to start, easy to maintain, hard to spin. You can easily achieve that with a gamepad oriented game. It's done countless times.

In combination with how lead developer said physics will be more realistic than Dirt Rally it proves Dirt 4 was just a broken sim.

They just failed. Just like they did with Dirt Rally tarmac physics.
