What happened with Hamilton? He pit when the session stopped. Surely his team should have told him not to pit?

Plain and simple they messed up but to be fair the team have done a great job in wining 6 championships , and currently have a 123 point constructors Lead .......competitors didn't do so well too ....sure they'll learn from this.

Voting is now open for the RaceDepartment Italian Grand Prix 'Driver of the Day'!

We were treated to a spectacular Italian Grand Prix today at Monza that had it all: a shake up to the order, brave overtakes, high speed accidents, safety cars, penalties and the first red flag in over three years! Now that you've enjoyed the race, all that's left for you to do is vote for your RaceDepartment Formula One Driver of the Day.

Does our race winner deserve to be awarded this title, after winning his team their first race in over a decade? Perhaps it should go to the man who pushed him all the way, and would probably have won without the red flag? Maybe you have your eye on the third podium finisher, or someone further down the grid?

Have your say by casting your vote in the poll, and let's get a good discussion going in the comments section!

Yeah, except Hamilton said it was his fault in the post interview and stewards penalised him for not seeing the red markers even though there were none on pit entry.

Seems harsh he was penalised so much. I hate Hamilton, but as a driver, if a team tell me to pit, and I miss a few track side signals, and the pit signals aren't even adequate, I'm not so sure I take the blame.

Unless the team told him not to pit and he saw the signals and took a risk.

Today it was announced that the Renault F1 Team will be known as Alpine F1 Team from 2021 onwards.
  • The French marque will use their team as a platform to promote their performance road car division.
  • The cars will likely feature Alpine's traditional blue colour scheme.
  • The engine will be branded with the Renault E-tech Hybrid name featuring on this year's car.
After Luca de meo, the new CEO of the Renault Group carried out a review of the company and its subsidiaries, the team officially announced that from next year, it's team would be known as Alpine F1 Team.

Alpine has been associated with the Renault brand for over four decades, after they purchased the independent sportscar manufacturer in the early seventies. The parent company has primarily used the Alpine name to brand its more high-end performance road cars.

Alpine's presence in motorsport is nothing new, having competed in rallying, sportscars, and more recently as a customer team in the FIA World Endurance Championship's LMP2 category.

The team has traditionally raced in blue, with white and red highlights, and it is expected that next year's livery will feature these colours. It's fitting that one of its tricolore-coloured cars, will have its seat filled by Frenchman Esteban Ocon. The other will be occupied by two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso, who since leaving F1 has added a WEC title, and ample sportscar victories to his name.

When he revealed the move, de Meo described Alpine as being "a symbol of French excellence". Team principal, Cyril Abiteboul also seemed upbeat about the team's future in F1:

"This change comes at a key moment in the trajectory of the team and the sport.
"The new regulatory and financial framework will establish the conditions for a fairer motor sport in its redistribution of revenues - simpler and progressive in its governance.
"Alpine has its place in Formula 1 and can challenge for victory."

To challenge for victory in Formula One is not an easy thing to do, but with improvements on the Renault power unit this season, and a two-time world champion in the car next year, more and more of the requisite ingredients seem to be there for the French marque.

Bottas was complaining about the engine mode. Still confused if anyone actually knew the pit was closed in time or if the FIA just messed up in staying safety car.

Stroll didn't make a pit stop. Conclusion: Bottas and Albon are turtles if you compare their pace.

Because others actually paid attention to communication signals:

@ZuneGuy That was bad for Hamilton. Being first to last +20sec in just 1 lap, having such a powerful car compared to the other teams.

It doesn't negate the fact that the communication could have been ****. Two signals on the outside of parabolica isn't enough when you are going inside to the pit. If the TV didn't realise the pit was closed until after Hamilton pitted then how did the Mercedes team?
