WRC 23 or DiRT Rally 3.0? Who cares? It's Coming in Spring, Maybe!

As all you rally racing gamers should be aware of, EA has snatched the WRC license from Kylotonn starting 2023. That means EA will be publishing the rally racing games starting sometime next year. While that is a fact, apparently the first EA WRC game will already be coming in spring.

In stark contrast to current release schedules, EA is set to release its first WRC game in spring of 2023. This rumour comes after some reports from GamesIndustry.biz that Geoff Smith of EA will be overseeing WRC until spring, when the game is due to launch.

Why is this such a big surprise?

Until now, WRC games have been released at the end of the season. KT Racing has been following that release schedule dilligently.

On the other hand, we've got other yearly series from EA like F1, which only comes out every summer, so months later.

Keep in mind, though, this is only speculation. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

Should this rumour be real, however, it mean we could be playing the next WRC game in 3 months already!

So let me ask you this: Are you looking forward to the new game? What are your expectations for EA and Codemasters? Let us know in the comments down below!

I don't care how this plays, I'm just looking forward to being able to buy some a jumper and some new trousers for my driver. Please EA, let us get some tattoos as well!
I’m just worried that they will not allow for more diversity to create our avatars. Everybody should be able to play with a character that they feel comfortable with. Same for the navigator - no diversity, no buy!

It isn’t easy to beat WRC GENERATIONS.
I have 10 times more fun with it then i ever had with Dirt 2.0. WRC GENERATIONS is vey underrated. I can recommend it to everybody!
Thanks for the recommendation but unfortunately without VR support it's not an option for me.

Let's hope WRC Generations is discounted on the Steam sale later today. I'd love to try a modern rally game not made by Codemasters, as they are good, but have their issues.

If they omit being able to play as a Furry, they're going to find themselves with the contents of my litter tray through their letterbox.

RBR mods are interesting but, using them means giving up my motion effects. Not a tradeoff I'm willing to make.
You mean modded RBR kill the link between the game and your motion rig? I'm pretty sure modders could do something about that if they know the issue. I understand, when you're used to a level of immersion, with modern equipment, it is hard to go back. Well, on another note, RBR allows VR though. I haven't tried it but I assume it sis absolutely immersiemve and smooth with the old graphics

People crapping on EA for MTX, while the Codemasters games had MTX (F1) or very unfriendly DLC strategy (DR 2.0) before EA. But suddenly it's EA's fault.

People crapping on EA for annual releases while Kylotonn also had annual releases with minimum improvements. But suddenly it's going to be their greed and fault.

I am not protecting EA but it bothers me so much that when EA gets in the picture, the anticonsumer practices of other developers/publishers suddenly disappear into thin air in the minds of people.

And for the record, I am not a fan of either rally game currently on the market. Hopefully Codemasters have been working on this for a long time that it can be an improvement over their previous "sim" entry (if it's going to be sim focused at all). Tarmac handling needs a lot of improvement, as well as the graphics. Interior details are very weak in DR2.0. Oh and the half FPS steering wheel animation also has to go away... I haven't driven it for long but if my memory is correct I actually preferred the "offroad" driving experience in the beloved Project CARS 2.
Agree, I was exactly on the point to say the same. What would give me a huge hype for this game would be the madness engine. This is something I've been waiting for since CM bought SMS. But I assume the time has been a bit short since then to develop an entire new rally game in this engine. I assume it will be a possibility for the next title. We can still have a little hope that EA out some money on the table to make CM be able to do this title on the madness enginen.

What is quiet worrying is the fact that 3 months before thevlaunch, there is no videos and no screenshots of the game, just a shy announcement. Not a good sign from CM and EA which usually communicate a lot on their games.

I don't have a bad opinion about EA too, I still enjoy their older games and had a lot of fun with their Star Wars Battlefront games. They went back about microtransactions in the second game and it got support for a really long period. From being the worst business practice it became a good example of how a game should be managed. The way they manage yearly licences is another thing, these IPs must cost a huge amount of money and require costs effectiveness in the developpment and also bad practices because the buyers, the fans, will be there. These cash cows should allow to finance other better titles or to buy other companies and... grow. Growing is an obsession currently, innovation is not but that's not only EA, it's been a general trend for years.

What I think about the rally titles in general is that their future maybe in BeamNG : it's been on my radar for years and I bought it recently because it's becoming huge. It would make sense for a big player to pay a licence to use this engine and build a rally game with it. There is really somerhing to do there, and I wonder whether this is what BeamNG is aiming to considering the low price is still asked for the game (more buyers more people getting used to its physics, more notoriety, everything needed to push big players to pay to use the engine for their games).

Let me warn you... i own 8 and 10 and both are not that what you can expect from a rally game. FFB is awefull and the sound is synthetic generated so basically its not worth to mention VR..... only the stages are visually ok.
Going from Wrc10 to DR2 the sound is like night and day. If you can live with that so nobody will hold you.

I guess they can't announce it yet since their license period hasn't actually begun yet.

that nicely sums up the WRC games I have played (07 and 08). I go there for the stages and then leave again because everything else is below par.
Talking about stages: The sheer visual beauty of stages in Dirt Rally and Rally2 is something I hope will be taken over into this new game.

Since i gave up driving DR2 or WRC with my wheel (both feels realy bad for me)
and changed to a ps5 dual sense controller and chase cam :D i have lot of fun with WRC 10 playing the career.

Btw. WRC support the dual sense effects on PC

Btw. WRC support the dual sense effects on PC
Little bit ironic.... when a pad works better than a wheel.
The menu looks like it was made from beginning for consoles....
But its ok, it has its own fans...
Unfortunately ive wasted some money on wrc but for the future i know 100% that i will never buy an game from Kytloton.

I have a D-box system but, it won't work with RBR mods. It's down to D-box to solve it but, they say there is not enough demand to make it worth-while.

I also play DR2 & WRC sometimes but, the ffb in DR2 is a major deterrent for me. May be the only title I've ever Rage-uninstalled! :D

I have also VR but i also can enjoy my Sims without VR. The SIMS with VR implementation I play without VR half of the time.

Liked DR1 alot. Disliked D4. Disliked DR2. DR3 can surely disappoint me again. However. WRC 10 surely surprised me. Played 5 6 7, but 10 was a great evolution. Only dislike the RPG-stuff like skillpoints

I really shouldn't butt in, but that never stopped me before. ;) I have been amused at all the positive comments surrounding Codemasters return. Going back to TOCA titles all the way thru the F1 series, I've never heard of Codemasters being focused on simulation. Rather they provide an avenue for a wide variety of users to be entertained, but they have never striven for the upper echelons of racing sims. Their products look nice, sound great, and behave usually fairly reliably, but that doesn't cover what happens once you begin driving.
Just sayin' Merry Christmas!!

It's going to be more realistic than all Nintendo Switch's racing games in terms of handling model.
