WRC 23 or DiRT Rally 3.0? Who cares? It's Coming in Spring, Maybe!

As all you rally racing gamers should be aware of, EA has snatched the WRC license from Kylotonn starting 2023. That means EA will be publishing the rally racing games starting sometime next year. While that is a fact, apparently the first EA WRC game will already be coming in spring.

In stark contrast to current release schedules, EA is set to release its first WRC game in spring of 2023. This rumour comes after some reports from GamesIndustry.biz that Geoff Smith of EA will be overseeing WRC until spring, when the game is due to launch.

Why is this such a big surprise?

Until now, WRC games have been released at the end of the season. KT Racing has been following that release schedule dilligently.

On the other hand, we've got other yearly series from EA like F1, which only comes out every summer, so months later.

Keep in mind, though, this is only speculation. Nothing has been confirmed yet.

Should this rumour be real, however, it mean we could be playing the next WRC game in 3 months already!

So let me ask you this: Are you looking forward to the new game? What are your expectations for EA and Codemasters? Let us know in the comments down below!

The question is, whether if it will be arcade or not. I can't recall any games published by EA being a simulator, regardless the developers.

Unless we consider NFS Shift a simulator
You're probably too young to even be aware of EA's racing sims. Although if you're so into "simulators" you should have already played them at least once. NASCAR Simracing is a NICE experience.

F1 Challenge, PC-version of the F1-series and Sports Car GT, all developed by ISI.
In fact, when you run rFactor 2 today, you can clearly see UI elements that have been kept since Sports Car GT! That game even had driver swaps for long races!
Sports Car GT was my favourite racing game… and when the mods began to come along I remember spending hours downloading files over dial up internet!!!

And saving these onto floppy discs to archive them… Sports Car GT was amazing on the PC… Race tracks I had only heard about in the states and other foreign countries fired my imagination… lapping around Mosport was so great!

I've worked for EA for 2 years in the recent past, and I can say that it looks far worse from the inside than it ever seemed to me from the outside. So here's to another messed up franchise, now half baked and full of bugs thanks to EA. Because they can, and people still buy into them like crazy.

It isn’t easy to beat WRC GENERATIONS.
I have 10 times more fun with it then i ever had with Dirt 2.0. WRC GENERATIONS is vey underrated. I can recommend it to everybody!

WRC GENERATIONS !!!
Are you using a wheel and pedals plus a handbrake ?

WRC 23 = DiRT Rally 3.0

Do not wait for the full distance of the legendary SS WRC.
There won't be enough time. Wait for WRC 26.

It will be decent for the first few years then it goes mediocre like F1. Except now there is no revamp cause it’s EA.

RD really can’t stop with the clickbait. Is this site going to be the racing tabloid site?

Didn't know about the driver swaps in Sports Car GT, amazing. These games were great packages with many features "modern sims" struggle to implement, or just don't dare to include.

EA is going to ruin this game. But a way to make it a bit better is by maybe adding proper triple screen support

RBR is the one true Rally Simulation.
Unfortunately, development was ended too soon.
some have been improving the game for years.

I've just installed rallysimfans few days ago and it is impressive.
I've used RSRBR few years ago, you had to configure your car/track combo in the launcher and launch the game ; to change the combo, you had to exit the game. The installation process is quiet long, manual.
Rallysimfans is really easy to install and to use, you select your car/track combo ingame, as a regular game.

The graphics were and still have something amazingly realistic, the tones are perfect and the level of details is outstanding. No overdone post process effects which kills the immersion in many modern titles.

It's probably going to be like DR in terms of content and execution, but with the addition of WRC. Meaning you will probably go through some kind of progress to end up in WRC.
Honestly though, i couldn't care less. I'm just gland we got rid of KT and went back to Codies. Even Dirt Rally 1 is better than any of KTs WRC titles, so even if it's worse than DR2.0, i bet it's going to be a lot better than KT's garbage.
I've discovered WRC9 recently and was quiet suprised. I've stayed away from this series because of the bad reviews of the first games and the lack of VR. WRC9 received better reviews and I must admit it is good. Dirt Rally games have their issues too, I would not say they are superior in terms of simulation. The issue with KT games is the never corrected bugs. The last game had to be the best of the series, to give a good ending to KT's story with WRC, and is pledged with bugs and lack of refinement.

I don't have any opinion about EA, the last F1 game seemed to be like the previous ones with some new uninteresting features and the loss of the best feature, historic cars. I assume the new rally game will be close to Dirt Rally games with official WRC cars and official Rallycross cars. I hope, before all, an improvement of the tarmac physics.

I must admit that having just installed RBR Rallysimfans, with its huge quantity of tracks, and having discovered WRC9, I'm not really hyped by this new title, I have a lot to enjoy before considering getting it. It will have to do do something really new and groundbraking to get my full attention.

RBR Pro is said to be complex to set up and the physics are not developped anymore.

RBR mods are interesting but, using them means giving up my motion effects. Not a tradeoff I'm willing to make.

I'm feeling a bit fed up with the way licences are choking our hobby. I might just avoid it and pretend it doesn't exist.

i always saw the dirt rally games as being superior to the WRC games, not just visually but as an overall game package i liked the Dirt Rally offering more.
so i hope we will get to see a successor to Dirt Rally 2 no matter what the exact name will be.

People crapping on EA for MTX, while the Codemasters games had MTX (F1) or very unfriendly DLC strategy (DR 2.0) before EA. But suddenly it's EA's fault.

People crapping on EA for annual releases while Kylotonn also had annual releases with minimum improvements. But suddenly it's going to be their greed and fault.

I am not protecting EA but it bothers me so much that when EA gets in the picture, the anticonsumer practices of other developers/publishers suddenly disappear into thin air in the minds of people.

And for the record, I am not a fan of either rally game currently on the market. Hopefully Codemasters have been working on this for a long time that it can be an improvement over their previous "sim" entry (if it's going to be sim focused at all). Tarmac handling needs a lot of improvement, as well as the graphics. Interior details are very weak in DR2.0. Oh and the half FPS steering wheel animation also has to go away... I haven't driven it for long but if my memory is correct I actually preferred the "offroad" driving experience in the beloved Project CARS 2.

So please stay on that . For me its dead meanwhile.
Who cares about both, RBR is STILL the king... unfortunatelly.
Maybe for you. RBR was several years ago good but meanwhile its an old piece.
The community mods keep it alive but it do not change the fact that it looks and sounds like an old game. Thats all.
And yes ive tested it 2 months ago and after 1h uninstalled it.
So i prefer DR2. All Wrc titles from KT are crap.

I do not have big expectations to Wrc23 (DR3?) so there is no disappointment then....
