The new VGT concept will be within Gran Turismo 7 sometime during January 2024 and has been unveiled at Barcelona’s World Series World Final.

As the Vision Gran Turismo programme celebrates its 10th anniversary – whereby car manufacturers create dedicated vehicles for Gran Turismo video games using their real-world design and engineering teams – a new addition from Korean luxury brand Genesis has been unveiled.

That rather clumsily title Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo has been created by the company’s lead design team, and was first teased at last year’s Austrian Showdown event.

Now finally a reality, or rather virtual reality, the low-slung coupe previous legitimate design cues that will be passed on to upcoming Genesis models, even if a car identical to this will not hit the streets.

In the game, under the elongated bonnet is a front mid-mounted Lambda 11 V6 engine, which can scream to 10,000rpm, while at the back is an electric motor entitled ‘Genesis E-SC technology’.

The internal combustion engine outputs 870hp and 790lb-ft while the electrical assist generates an additional 201hp and 196 lb-ft of torque for total figures of 1071hp and 986Ib-ft.

Inspired By Motorsport

While, both inside and out, the X Gran Berlinetta appears to be a performance road car, Genesis was at pains to explain that motorsport was a primary influence.

“When we’re sketching on this vehicle, the goal was to really inspire and reignite the passion towards motorsports for the next generations,” said Tony Chen, who was the Exterior Design Manager for the project.

To that point, it’s a single-seater, with a space for a crash helmet where a traditional passenger area would be. The steering wheel is said to be inspired by a PlayStation controller. Yet, muddying the sporting pretensions somewhat, it’s not in the Gr.1 race category and it has quilted leather.

“What I really like about this interior is the application of quilting in the monocoque frame,” explained Christopher Ha, Senior Manager of Interiors at Genesis.

“This really immerses the driver in this kind of luxury type of vehicle that’s also performance orientated.”

On the outside, the sculpted posterior features a noticeable cutaway, which Genesis likes to call an “elliptical concave volume,” – a theme carried over to the inside of the front wheel arch, where an aperture would extract air. If this was real, which it isn’t, although game developers Polyphony Digital surprised the nascent luxury vehicle creators with the amount of information required to turn it into a functional car in the game.

“We went back and forth even with our engineering internally to gather all this information to make sure that it performs exactly the way it would in the real world,” highlighted John Krsteski, Senior Chief Designer for Genesis, North America.

“It was mind-blowing to see the level of information required.”

A striking Magma orange paint scheme completes the design that Genesis claims is a preview for future design features across its next generation of road-going models.

The latest Vision GT will be added to the Gran Turismo 7 game sometime in January 2024 via Brand Central. However, if you take part in the viewers’ campaign available at the top right of the World Map currently, players will have the car delivered directly to their garage without spending in-game credits after the January game update.

I don't like fantasy cars and tracks, nor fantasy physics. But if they want to go that route at least they should make a fantasy car massively over the top, and create a car so fast that the car specs at that point are irrelevant because the human factor is the performance limiter.

Anybody can modify a car physics in assetto corsa and give it so much power, grip and braking power that you can't go any faster even if you tripple every single car spec after that.

Because everything just happen so fast that you don't have time to react, even if you have so much grip that you no longer even need to brake to take any corner. I did it once some years ago with one formula car that the devs gave as a template for modders so they could have a reference and a base line.

At over 8000km/h, sometimes reaching 16000km/h in the shutoko C1 track I found that I was the limiting factor, the car was capable of a lot more I was simply incapable to think and act that fast.

Nowadays it would have been more revolutionary to design a car with 300hp and sleek classic styling. Wood...leather (even fabric is fine)....steel....high profile tires....gated shifters...analog dash with oil pressure and voltage gauges. You know, all the good stuff that's becoming extinct.

i honestly do not know one person who likes racing these vision gt cars.
my guess is that these are definitely not for the players. its just PD and Sony using the game as a platform to please these brands.

who cares, its made for a not realistic enough game. Was this report paid for by Sony... because its sure in hell should be if not.
