rFactor 2 | Upcoming Q4 2022 Update

rFactor 2 BMW.jpg
Its been an exciting year for rFactor 2's development and its showing no signs of slowing down. In fact with a new build on the way, new content and its inclusion in the Low Fuel Motorsports platform, its doing nothing but accelerating!

BTCC

Studio 397 have just announced that the BMW 330e M Sport BTCC will be joining its ever growing roster of BTCC cars aiming it the 5th car of its class to be added! This is a car that has been much talked about over on the forums at S397, and will be a big hit with Colin Turkington fans!

Avery welcome addition to go with the existing BTCC cars and also the BTCC tracks we now have in the game, but it seems there may be more on the way, will we see another track from the series maybe, I can certainly think of a couple I'd love to see in fully laser scanned glory!

Bahrain

Talking of tracks, the first ever laser scanned version of Barhain is coming to the sim in this content drop and as some of you may know, it was already used in the recent Virtual Le Mans opening round, so that may not be news to you.

What is news is that they are planning to release four different configurations of the desert circuit, which should certainly keep us busy, and by the looks of the screenshots and video of the track I'm sure its designer Hermann Tilke would be proud to see it represented in all its digital glory!

Low Fuel Motorsport

rFactor 2's online presence has shot up recently with its inclusion in the fantastic Low Fuel Motorsport platform, making it the second simulator supported by the system after Assetto Corsa Competizione, and so far its been a resounding success, with multiple L.F.M. servers attracting up to thirty drivers per race! I've never seen so much activity in RF2 online outside of a league in a long time!

There's all of this and more, because along with the new content comes a new build of the simulation which packs a host of new features, fixes and improvements!

The track limits system is again receiving updates and refinements and I have to say, it's already one of the best track limits systems I've ever seen in any sim, which must be a big plus for the online community at LFM.

UI

Further improvements have been made to the UI making it faster and more user friendly, track loading times have improved and there is even a function to quit to desktop instantly using a key press combination from anywhere within the game!

Offline

One of the biggest improvements for offline players in the new build will be a fix to the A.I. that has solved a long standing issue with their brake and throttle behaviour. This has had knock on improvements to the way they sound and look going around the track and most importantly their driving. Infact its also solved issues with certain A.I. cars ability to make it round specific tracks!

You don't even have to wait for the update (which should arrive early November) to try out some of the improvements as there is a beta Release Candidate you can already opt into through your steam library!

If you're not sure how to opt in, or you would like to see a comparison of the old A.I. vs the new A.I. I've put together a little video showing you all of that and a couple of other features of the new build as well, hope it's of use to you!

What do you think of the rFactor 2's progress over the last year, do you see it as a brief revival of what has sometimes been a controversial racing simulator, or do you think the future is bright and getting better?

in rf2 the gt3 cars pack cost roughly the same as the whole acc base game, i think s397 seriously over rate the value of their software

just looked through the store, you'd have to spend hundreds of pounds to buy it all, and any online lobby you need to own every bit of content being used in that server, what a joke
and why do you need all the content? You only need to match what a server has, so if you are racing GT3, no ForumlaE, no Karts, no Rockenfellar's electric car, the Radical XX, No Indycar, rFpro etc etc. Yes, the OPTION to buy LOTS of varying cars will cost money. Buy you never NEED to buy it all. Sale ends today.

But you still need to own every car being used in that race, which I'm assuming holds true with multiclass racing like Le Mans and you would need both GT3 and prototypes. This is in contrast to RaceRoom where you can buy a single car and join races for that class or a multiclass race that includes that one

thats exactly what i said
I understand, I was mainly reacting to your hundreds of pounds statement. I don't disagree about the issue, it has been known ever since S397 began selling DLC, but it was not easily remedied when Marcel was in charge and a fix hasn't appeared in the year he's been gone. All I can say is find the content you want and then wait for the half dozen sales each year if you are missing some or choose other titles.

I've been waiting for custom offline championship since 2012...what the hell does it take to realize such a banal issue like that.

This news made me aware of LFM and its integration of rF2. The platform seems excellent, but what a disapointment when I saw that forced cockpit view...
When will cockpit view elitists understand that no view makes you faster, but being forced to use a view you're not confortable with makes you slower (or at least less consistent, less confortable, and in some cases simply unable to play)? It's infuriating and quite unacceptable. When will they forbid VR, direct drive wheels and load cell brakes? They are much more likely to make you faster...

With my setup (and maybe my eyes), I can't apprciate the distances properly from the cockpit view, it's like driving from the rear seat, or looking through upside down binoculars. It's manageable when the car allows to move the seat very close to the windshield, but not all cars allow that...

Fortunately, I'll go the VR route in a couple months and it won't be an issue anymore, but it's a matter of principle, forcing a view is just forcing anyone to do the same as you do, being convinced your way is the only way, very selfish, intolerant and pretentious.

Well, he can always join the users who can't drive right hand drive cars. Best of luck with the VR, please keep us informed how it goes.

You probably won't like VR, way too realistic!:p:D

I bought the Q4 pack with all the content.

I've found the odd issue which are still inherent to the sim (although with the current rate of progress I would'nt be surprised if they're not there for much longer), but i've really been enjoying the new content over the last few days!

The track surface's are just amazing, and Bahain at night, wow! BMW is great, and even though the Infinity and the Beamer are so similar, the Beamer just seems to have the edge on the Infinity in terms of handling. Bravo S397, looking forward to a bright future for RF2!

Also I think I may have found the most fun Combo ever! Its at the most controversial track (which i am very glad they included in the drop!) using a petrolhead car! Skip to 57:31 in the video, its a hoot!
