rFactor 2 | Upcoming Q4 2022 Update

rFactor 2 BMW.jpg
Its been an exciting year for rFactor 2's development and its showing no signs of slowing down. In fact with a new build on the way, new content and its inclusion in the Low Fuel Motorsports platform, its doing nothing but accelerating!

BTCC

Studio 397 have just announced that the BMW 330e M Sport BTCC will be joining its ever growing roster of BTCC cars aiming it the 5th car of its class to be added! This is a car that has been much talked about over on the forums at S397, and will be a big hit with Colin Turkington fans!

Avery welcome addition to go with the existing BTCC cars and also the BTCC tracks we now have in the game, but it seems there may be more on the way, will we see another track from the series maybe, I can certainly think of a couple I'd love to see in fully laser scanned glory!

Bahrain

Talking of tracks, the first ever laser scanned version of Barhain is coming to the sim in this content drop and as some of you may know, it was already used in the recent Virtual Le Mans opening round, so that may not be news to you.

What is news is that they are planning to release four different configurations of the desert circuit, which should certainly keep us busy, and by the looks of the screenshots and video of the track I'm sure its designer Hermann Tilke would be proud to see it represented in all its digital glory!

Low Fuel Motorsport

rFactor 2's online presence has shot up recently with its inclusion in the fantastic Low Fuel Motorsport platform, making it the second simulator supported by the system after Assetto Corsa Competizione, and so far its been a resounding success, with multiple L.F.M. servers attracting up to thirty drivers per race! I've never seen so much activity in RF2 online outside of a league in a long time!

There's all of this and more, because along with the new content comes a new build of the simulation which packs a host of new features, fixes and improvements!

The track limits system is again receiving updates and refinements and I have to say, it's already one of the best track limits systems I've ever seen in any sim, which must be a big plus for the online community at LFM.

UI

Further improvements have been made to the UI making it faster and more user friendly, track loading times have improved and there is even a function to quit to desktop instantly using a key press combination from anywhere within the game!

Offline

One of the biggest improvements for offline players in the new build will be a fix to the A.I. that has solved a long standing issue with their brake and throttle behaviour. This has had knock on improvements to the way they sound and look going around the track and most importantly their driving. Infact its also solved issues with certain A.I. cars ability to make it round specific tracks!

You don't even have to wait for the update (which should arrive early November) to try out some of the improvements as there is a beta Release Candidate you can already opt into through your steam library!

If you're not sure how to opt in, or you would like to see a comparison of the old A.I. vs the new A.I. I've put together a little video showing you all of that and a couple of other features of the new build as well, hope it's of use to you!

What do you think of the rFactor 2's progress over the last year, do you see it as a brief revival of what has sometimes been a controversial racing simulator, or do you think the future is bright and getting better?

I like rf2 , it looks ok i guess and drives great but the content and it's sale is just a bit haphazard. The tracks are also expensive and not many of them appeal to me past the few essential ones ( imo) like Monaco and Nord's.

I hope they release something for us the NON tin top BTCC/GT fans too. I would also like to see a better spread track list.. across a more regions/countries? Let’s see what else they announce hopefully they include something for us too.

A full range of Tatuus, Historic Mclarens, Formula Pro, Indycar, USf2000. Mods of GP3, F1 etc. The owners of Studio 397 (look up the meaning of the name) are endurance fans first, so they have focused on endurance tracks. But Bahrain, Silverstone, Spa, Monaco, Zandvoort 2020/2018 , are F1, they have older versions of Bathurst, Suzuka, & Imola, we suspect Fuji will appear eventually to fill out the WEC calendar. Indycar has Indy, Portland, Laguna, WWW with plenty of modded tracks like Road America, Road Atlanta, Nazereth, Sonoma,

Great updates are coming, but the excessive usage of their own brands Studio397/Motorsports advertisements is a bit of an immersion breaker for me.
Many official tracks only seem to have one main sponsor.
It would not even have to be real word sponsors, but some variety would add a lot of credibility to the overall look.

I have made my decision and i do not invest anymore in RF2 and RRE,wich were my best sims for a long time.I have my reasons. And i have a substitute wich satisfies me in every way.And i have not much time for all to keep up with. These are not the same as they were when i liked them.No VR no MP cause i don't need it.It's not a money thing.Just getting older...

Are you using the tweaks on the player.json file published in the Studio 397 Forum?
(under Third Party Content / TrackAIWs - first page)
These are still very much relevant, being that you must first run at least 45min of practice for the AI to learn the track/car combo and then run Quali, so the AI is distributed in the grip according to their skill.

Thanks for the tip, I'll take a look.

It somewhat explains why the Formula ISI 2012 AI was over the place and cause a lot of yellow flags on my test at Silverstone

It seems it's not all combos tough, because I tried an offline race to gauge the LFM combo (Alpine car at Loch Drummond short) and it was fine, door to door racing with some, but tolerable, AI punts.

Most of the historic content and a good portion of what you listed was under ISI or 3rd party... not S397... Formula Pro is a fantasy car(surprising for a team that clain this would never happen)... Reiza shows how it should be done...... Formula Pro as it stand is useless car as it pure fantasy. S397 promise big things for it but nothing ever happen ot it. Still the same fantacy car as when it was release... GP3 it's not a S397 car... neither was USF200, Bathurst, Suzuka, Imola,Siverstone,Indyc. Fact is S397 is ignoring a large portion of their fan base for the sake of BTTC and GT cars... One has to question if S397 really cares or anything other then Endurance or Tin tops... Not sure they do.

whether ISI or S397, all those and more are available, most of those listed are free as well.
have a good one!

If I could even start the game in VR, Im sure I would love it. If I could assign my controllers, Im sure I would love it.

since many can use VR and many do have multiple controllers.... I will ask a few questions. How many controllers do you have?(usb connections)
What are your system specs? Videocard, Vram, System Ram, laptop/desktop, cpu....'

all other steam games you can select if you booting into pancake or vr.. not RF2.. you have to run a config first, screw up all your settings because its the same file and then boot.

hope they fix it again.

no assistance on the controller, my DD1 and previously my G29, "just worked"

or if you tire easily of this nonsense you can just download and use the third party "rf2 settings widget" that handles this all for you, including setting up FSR etc.

rF2 is the better Raceroom!
But pitcrew would be great as well as a track map! Can´t comprehend why still no track map like in every serious racing sim!

in rf2 the gt3 cars pack cost roughly the same as the whole acc base game, i think s397 seriously over rate the value of their software

just looked through the store, you'd have to spend hundreds of pounds to buy it all, and any online lobby you need to own every bit of content being used in that server, what a joke
