RENNSPORT: Closed Beta Update Adds Praga R1, Figure 8 Track

New content, new improvements: RENNSPORT has updated its closed beta and added a new car in the Praga R1, a new tongue-in-cheek track and various improvements, including the arrival of the first version of a damage model.

While it is not quite the addition of the Porsche 963 LMDh car and the Goodwood hillclimb that had been announced in July, the latest vehicle in the RENNSPORT garage is an interesting one nonetheless: The Praga R1 is the first non-GT3 car available in the closed beta, allowing sim racers to sample the title's physics in a different type of car. The pint-sized prototype is light, agile and features 365 hp according to Praga. It also relies on aerodynamics more than the existing GT3 machinery.

GT3 Destruction Derby?

A surprising new circuit is also available in the closed beta now, as RENNSPORT shows some humor about them supposedly only sending out eight beta keys at the start of the closed beta phase, leading to the aptly-named 8eta course - a figure of 8 circuit surrounded by screens displaying memes referencing the key situation that basically begs for the inclusion of a Destruction Derby-type stock car. For now, the GT3 cars (and the new Praga) will have to do.

Something tells us that there have been sent out at least eight more keys since these memes started popping up... Image credit: RENNSPORT

The first version of a damage model makes its debut with this update as well. As there is no way to fix damage during a session yet, this should serve as even more of an incentive not to try overtaking manoeuvers with reckless abandon. On the 8eta circuit, the damage model is not enabled as of this update for obvious reasons.

Don't Cut

Under the hood, an improved cut detection system has been implemented to discourage unrealistic racing lines being taken. This prevents racers from dipping two wheels onto the gravel, for example, to dramatically shorten the line through some corners. Simply put, the white lines on the edge of the track are now the track limit, so at least two tires need to be between them. Tarmac runoff areas allow two tires to be on the kerb, and a green astro turf area can be fully used, with cones or bollards now marking other critical areas.

To add to this, a system that calculates whether or not time has been gained by exceeding track limits has been put in place that allows various repercussions, which are going to be trialed over the next few weeks. To add to this, thanks to new movement correction algorithm, close multiplayer racing should be much less problematic, so unexpected netcode collisions should not derail races as much anymore.

You can find the full patch notes below.

Why not do what ACC did EA on steam!!! look what that game has grown too what it was. Seems "rennsport" rather hype everyone up about some Esports event than "US" the players

All the feedback is from the esports guys. That is all they care about and their events. This sim is not developed for us and it has its market. Will we get to enjoy it....... time will tell but I still remain hopeful.

I'm not an esports guy...

It's not bad, but it's a few years away...

At least it's not just another GT3 game anymore... There's some fun to be had now...

Not really, everyone with the beta can send feedback inside the game, of course with us participating in the ESL is easier because they have direct communication with us, but everyone can send their feedback tbf.

This game doesnt know what it wants to be. First it was a hardcore esports thing, but then they found out nobody cares about esports. Next it was the next roam tokyo modding platform, and that got lukewarm reactions, because AC already exists. So now they are just lost...

oh and lets not forget the whole NFT pay saga.

no change on phisics, tire model, ffb, so they consider it ok for them?

Figure 8 track is definitely going to change that.
Wait, there is Wreckfest already. :(

This title is weird.

I always was comenting the same as you but 2-3 weeks ago i got beta key, and was surprised, btw game is still in deep development, but it remember me RF2 vibes! The "big" reviewers told it is like between Raceroom and ACC i'm happy to tell it is at least for me better than ACC or Raceroom! Fingers crossed! And that it gave me vibes of RF2 tyres feeling i felt in trust with Rennsport! Before i was also very unhappy about beta key promisses etc, time will show...

Well, I have tried the Praga and the 8 track. I think it is a good way to test how do the cars behave colliding to avoid cars spinnig into the skies or falling through the ground in the finished product. Nothing wrong about the Praga, nice addition.

For my likings the handling of the cars is too forgiving and I still do feel the car on the tarmac. Lets see with some future classes (without TC and ABS) how it develops further. Give the guys some time to work, it is still in beta stage :) In comparison to other work in progress titles we have a working game and not only big statements and some screenshots....

Closed betas !!!!! Why not a early acess?
Because if people had actually paid for the game in the current state they'd most likely go ape-**** on social media with how underwhelming it is. You can only hot-lap and play online, that's it.

I've had the beta for ~a month or more and have not even put one hour combined into it yet. Anyway, here's what I noticed in my very short time with the game:

The menu system is annoyingly clunky and counter-intuitive (and very resource demanding wasteful, judging from the speeds of my PC's fans.) And accessing the menu while driving doesn't pause the simulation, meaning you better come to a complete stop before trying to change game settings.

On-track the tyres feel overly grippy, so you can brake later than in the other games purporting to be sims I'm familiar with. Car rotation is effectively controlled by the throttle, not unlike rF2 and AMS2.

The graphics are nothing to write home about, imo, and poorly optimized (it's a beta, so I expect that to improve.) Because it doesn't have proper triple-screen support I haven't tried racing online.

And bearing in mind the developer team (Teyon) has only shipped one racing game before - a console-only monster truck game (they mainly make console RPG/shooters) - I'm not inclined to bet money on this evolving into a particular great sim any time soon.

This title is weird.

The figure 8 track is to test the damage which was implemented... And that damage is pretty realistic...

The other reason is that the community started making jokes about there only being 8 BETA keys released... So they made the figure 8 and added the memes as billboards...

Pretty creative and shows they can take a joke... And they are very helpful when there's an issue...

If it's closed beta, what is the point of public announcement of the fixes, we won't be able to see them anyway.
To show to the sim racing masses the progress the developer has made so far? Otherwise someone somewhere will spread rumour that this game is another vapourware.
