Need For Speed Unbound Vol. 4 Update to Drop August 16th

Two months have passed since Volume 3, so it is time for the next big update for Need for Speed Unbound to launch: Fans of the tuning-focused arcade racer can look forward to Volume 4 being available on August, including a celebration of Porsche's 75th anniversary. Meanwhile, Xbox racers can take advantage of a free play period towards the end of the month.

To celebrate 75 years of Porsche, NFS Unbound players will be able to get behind the wheel of a fully-electric 2022 Porsche Taycan Turbo S to customize it to the extreme - if they can finish the Porsche Playlist three times. Additionally, new Porsche-themed events and customizations will be available in Volume 4.

Another Stuttgart vehicle can be unlocked by rising up to rank 50 in a free refreshed 75-level Speed Pass - in doing so, players will get access to a custom 1997 Porsche 911 Carrera S promising to be "the wildest that Lakeshore has seen", according to EA.

More Playlists & Challenges

The update is also going to introduce Gauntlet Playlists that see players face off against especially tough cops. Completing a route will net big rewards, but only if players can avoid getting stopped by Lakeshore's law enforcement. Seven new Linkup locations including the ability to quick-route to them are going to be available as well.

Players will have a fresh set of challenges on their hands, too, with 20 Daily Challenges, 15 One Shot Challenges, and 39 Weekly Challenges being added. With the update, random events are going to become Boosted events for a limited time, offering the opportunity gain additional rewards.

Three DLC Packs

Three new pieces of DLC will be introduced with Volume 4 as well, those being the Hip Hop Origins Swag Pack (including a custom 2017 Mercedes -AMG G 63, a clothing pack, driving effect and more for $14,99), the Lotus Exige S Legendary Custom Pack (including the car with custom bodykit and livery, as well as a 10-level Speed Pass boost for $9,99), and the Vol. 4 Customs Pack for $5,99.

The latter reintroduces three cars from previous NFS titles to Unbound, namely Eddie's 1993 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec from Need for Speed Underground, Rachel's 2008 Nissan 350Z from Need for Speed Underground 2, and Joe's 2020 Polestar 1 from Need for Speed Heat. Cars from previous titles were available in Heat as well - as free unlockables, however. Speaking of Heat: Owners of Unbound's predecessor will receive a 1994 McLaren F1 as a welcome gift if they purchase Unbound as well.

While it is not quite a gift, Xbox players with a subscription to Game Pass Ultimate or Live Gold get to play Need for Speed Unbound for free while the Xbox Free Play Days take place from August 24th to 27th. That is more than a full weekend to give the game a try and decide whether or not it might be worth a purchase - or to try and complete it in just four days if you are so inclined.

That sim racing news will surely make my day. :p

Waaahhhh :roflmao:

This is called feedback from this site dwellers, if Overtake is not interested in hearing it, they can just disable comments. Who knows, if enough people complain that pseudo racing news drivel might stop.

racedepartment. Not simdepartment.

There's been non-sim news since way before overtake. When RD had less than one article a day because there's times where there's not much sim-news, that was an issue. Or maybe RD can write about "sim-clothing" as that's apparently a thing? Not sure how popular that would be.

All in all, not possible to make everyone happy, but it is race related.

Just took a couple of random trips on archive.org. In February 2015. 2 out of 15 news articles on the front page was about sim-games. 4 articles about "automotive news" and the rest about real life racing. In February 2018 there were only 10 front page articles in 4 days. Half about sim-games (if you include Dakar 18, Wreckfest and pCars 2 (ooh, can of worms!) as sims). The rest about F1 car reveals.
When Covid struck and it was shutdown-time in March 2020. 10 articles in 11 days were about sim-games. If you add in the RD Podcast, simracing.GP, Isle of Man TT and Tony Stewart Sprint Racing as sim-games. 6 non sim-racing news.
Lastly a trip back to 2012 and the "good old days" of RD. 15 news articles. 7 about simracing. Out of those 7, one were about the "Official IndyCar game from SimRaceWay". One about the top gear pack for Forza Motorsport 4. One was about an Aquila being licensed for GTR3. One about RD recruiting. One was hardware related. Then there were 2 mods/additions to existing games, and the last was about a free to play F1 sim. Does anyone remember Online Racing Championship ?

Point of the long comment being?
It's nothing new. It has always been racedepartment.

Well than maybe change your tagline, largest SIM RACING website.

Why? If there's no news, there's no news. You're not CNN that you have to fill 24h with something.

Umm just because its the largest sim racing website has nothing to do with other genres. If Walmart is the largest retailer of soap, does that mean they shouldn't sell anything else? Theres room for all titles on here. Like someone else said, if you dont like the topic at hand, simply dont click on in. I for one enjoy anything that has to do with motorsports and cars. But thats just me, I'm open minded. Ive had plenty of fun in Unbound so I appreciate the article.

It was a snarky and unproductive rebuke to Ole going on about how Racedepartment isn't and never was a sim racing specific website, all the while calling themselves "the world's largest sim racing (and motorsport) website" on any platform.

And like I already explained to him, that's boooring ^^ It's also not about the article or NFS Unbound specifically. What I'm complaining about is that there seems to be an influx of news articles about whatever that looks like they are pumping out articles just to fill a quota, some articles being little more than promts to watch a video by Overtake with a clickbaity titlecard. That is a lapse in quality, doesn't speak to RDs journalistic integrity, and I don't like that.

I don't think RD staff is in charge of what gets published by Overtake.
So they do the best they can considering the circumstances, pretending it's normal and always was that way.
Should rename themselves to RacingTabloid.

Sim is what most staffies are focused on. Then again, with the exception of rF2, my areas here is the dirty side (rally) and manager-games. And technically they to simulate certain aspects.

When it comes to articles being written and shared, that's nothing the majority of staff have influence on.

It's always been this way. It's never been simracing-only, that's not me pretending.

Like I said, back when there was very little news being posted, there was complaints about that as well. It's also been varying depending on who is doing it. There was a time when there was quite a lot of non-RD racing being promoted here. Then that changed together with the staff-changes. It's the nature of a site where we do things for free.

Quality like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as to journalistic integrity or lack of it that seems to be stretching a bit. There's nothing being hidden, if there's a mistake in an article I'm sure someone will point it out in the discussion.
As to the variety of articles I don't remember BHM, NG or RSC sticking strictly to sims only in their posts.
Nobody is forcing you to read anything and if you think our writers are missing something then start a thread or use the contact button.
Finally, please remember that a fair number of our racers started off playing these games so maybe others reading the articles will add to the sim racing numbers in the future.

Integrity probably was the wrong choice of word, admittedly. It's a quality issue. Articles like this one below are useless clickbait with no content in the article itself, solely made to make you watch a video, about a game nobody cared about in the first article about it.

It's just not a good look and I just hope this doesn't one day become the norm.

As did I, my first ever PC game was Need for Speed in 1994 :) What I'm trying to get at is: Judging by the number of comments, most articles that aren't about simracing usually seem to get relatively low engagement, with comment numbers sometimes being in the one digit range. I of course can't see the clicks those articles get, so maybe there's the big difference, but I doubt that an article with 8 comments gets more clicks than one with 100+. So to me it looks like there isn't even an audience for a lot of that stuff, and the interests of most of the people active here seem to lie inracing sims rather than racing games.
