Dakar Desert Rally USA Tour Teased, Coming Soon

Dakar Desert Rally USA Tour DLC coming soon.jpg
After much patience, Saber Interactive has finally teased the USA Tour DLC for Dakar Desert Rally as coming soon. Get ready to explore the American wilderness.

Dakar Desert Rally launched as the official game for the infamous rally raid of the same name back in October 2022. Alongside the title came a rather full development roadmap showing a sorry state of affairs for the game in its launch state.

Whilst it took patience, 2023 saw the game receive the majority of the elements present on the roadmap. One addition that never made its way to Dakar Desert Rally in 2023 however was the American map DLC. But following a recent teaser on social media, fans will soon get to explore this new map in the title.

Dakar Desert Rally USA Tour Release

The USA Tour is the final DLC pack originally announced by Saber Interactive for Dakar Desert Rally. According to previous announcements, the pack will present a new map for players to explore.

The base game features a vast representation of Saudi Arabia, the real life location of the rally. This USA pack on the other hand will, as the name suggests, fling players into a recreation of the USA. As yet, the extent of said representation is unknown. But from the screenshots, one would assume that a barren landscape mixing desert and mountains will dominate the map.

This description fits a number of regions across the country. So we will avoid attempting to predict the actual location. That being said, previous leaks do show a map ranging from Colorado to Nevada.

With the Dakar’s history, the decision to visit the United States of America, rather than the Southern continent, or even Africa will be perplexing to some. Either way, those that enjoy discovering new landmarks, competing in unknown races and navigating through wilderness will get a fresh start with the DLC.

No release date for the Dakar Desert Rally USA Tour has been made public as of yet. However, the teaser does hint at a relatively swift release.

Played some stages last weekend: 5 stages, 2 „fatal errors“ ending with a ctd. Game has a lot of potential, very immersive but just not stable enough. I doubt that this will get better with a new dlc.

Reading the steam forums and seeing how Saber does nothing to fix all the major problems, Im still going to stay away from this game

The game is so busted that even the HUD is blocking the way, there is no option to disable the checkpoint notifications and the acompanying ear-bleeding "Diiing" jingle. Just abysmal design and it shows the devs didn't even play their own game.

What a shame it is lacking so much! A good off road racing sim would be a blast!! It does seem with some focus, Beam could be a perfect platform for this style of racing. With circuit and point to point races.

odd they releasing more content when the main game is so sverly broken, freezes, ctd's, ffb from 1963...

And I thought it xas an improvement from Dakar 18. At least this one is stable (its main issue, for my Thrustmaster wheel, being not having FFB, just the vibrations effects ; still playable by adding the centering forces). I was.keeping it under my radar, waiting for a good sale (just for the setting), but, reading your feedbacks, it seems a real waste of money and time, what a shame.

And I do confirm what is stated in the article, a new location should have been a real historic setting, or even a rally raid modern one (but it wouldn't be a Dakar race). I can understand it is a way to appeal the US audience. But a Dakar named race / game without... Dakar??? It is quiet outrageous IRL already, although it was initially for safety reasons, but why not in a game? A historical Paris Dakar edition would have been amazing. If I am not wrong, the devs are from Portugal. Why not a historic Lisbonne Dakar edition? Or why not the 92 edition from the North of France (Rouen) to the South of Africa (Cape Town) crossing 11 countries (not Senegal unfortunately)?

Anyway, if the game stability isn't fixed, I'll stay away from it. As already stated, it is an unfortunate waste of potential because these huge maps replicating real settings are a major achievement...

I did buy this game on sale on the end of the year on steam, it was 62 BRL (something around 13 dollars), and i tried to launch but everytime after the Saber and UE logo appears, the game always crash (fatal erro ue4...), I refund the game and open a ticket on Saber support, one person reach out to me quickly, even it is was around Christmas, I was impress for the quick response and did buy the game again, follow one of the suggestion they made, and the game work (I was abble to play), but the game has poor optimization, stuttering and the Caviar that comes with Unreal Engine.

The Driving Experience itself is really good, if turn off all the HUD, and try race only with the copilot on the professional or simulation mode, is really challenge, you really need to listen and relay on the copilot to even have a little chance to get a good result, but this is another problem, because the copilot sometimes get lost, if you run to fast, he loose track of the keynotes and when he says the cap you sometime already pass the spot by a little, but here lies a improvement over the Dakar 18, when you get lost by a little ou medium the copilot is able to find the route again and start point to the right direction, or if you get lost and go back to the last point he go from there, with maybe cause you loose some time and Caps, that will result in a penalty, but for me this is fine, I find it quite imerssive, people make mistakes and this is great part of Dakar.

The FFB? is ok, is most a center spring effect, than FFB, you dont feel the tire going throug rocks or carving throug the sand, with is quite odd, since Saber made MuddRunner and SnowRunner, the sand most of the time feels more like a hard gravel...

But here is why the game wont work for me, the solution that I work out with the Saber Support Team was that the Logitech G-HUB was causing the Fatal Erro crash, if I unistall the G-HUB the game works fine (keeping in mind that is Unreal Engine), but I came to the conclusion that was not a good solution, sent then a e-mail complain about it, because I dont want to keep installing and unistalling the G-HUB everytime I want to play, I like to play the older Sinbim titles, GTL, GTR2 and Race07 and I need the G-HUB to set a custon 240 degrees on the wheel.

About the USA map ? I guess they need something to please the americans, Dakar 18 did get a Ruta 40 expansion, that was realy spot on with the Dakar here in South America, I wish they port the maps from the Dakar 18 to this game, will be a better DLC.

Indeed, if the gap between the game is big enough, it could be a good idea to port the former maps. One thing I disliked in the first game was the measures following the downscaling of the map, so that when your copilot announced 1 km it is in fact in a few seconds. I've always had difficulties with that.

Quiet incredible, there are Dakar mods, cars and stages, for AC (although not perfect as AC struggles to simulate sand physics) :

Some videos showing the mod :

And another track (a paid one) :

And a free one :

And another Dakar pack :

I wonder how is the navigation system with these mods, it seems there isn't any.
We can see how good the official game looks in comparison though.

So it is the same feeling I get in Dakzr 18 by activating autocenter in my wheel settings. I don't know what Saber brought to the game development, but it is indeed a pity the Mud/Snowrunner team didn't give a hand on the physics aspect. I understand the main team had a lot of work on the world and the notes but I don't understand why Saber did not handle the physics and/or FFB part. Maybe for the next game...

I tried these ars on 3 Dakar's tracks, 2 in Saoudi Arabia and one kn Mexico. They don't look great as expected but from inside the car they do the job (the unique Mexican track should be quiet frightening in VR, it is set in mountains). The navigation system id just indicators appearing on the mini map, at least there is something. The experience is better than I expected. For sure, as an experience with the navigation.and the copilot, it doesn't come close to the official Dakar Rally games but at least it is better in terms of physics. On the positive side, I don't think I have seen 3D people along the road in other AC's tracks ; in these there are lot in some places, static but 3D. These mods did make me want to go back to Dakar 18, which I have never find the time and patience to finish.
