Dakar Desert Rally: Extended Arabia Map & Steering Wheel Support

patch14_ddr.jpg
Saber Interactive released one of the most anticipated DLC for its new game a few days ago. This v1.4 patch adds an extended Arabia map and tries to solve FFB issues for most of the supported steering wheelbases list.

With some perspective and checking all these fixes, the Dakar Desert Rally release should have been delayed by at least some weeks. It is one of that times where just one month can make a great difference for a development team to polish the game and get better reception of the title. You have all the details of the official patch note below.

Patch 1.4

Today we’ve launched our latest patch for Dakar Desert Rally for Steam. This patch fixes a number of issues with steering wheel support, force feedback support, AI behavior, handling on Bikes and Quads, and much more. We’ve also added our first free DLC, the Extended Saudi Arabia Map, which adds the complete simulation events from Dakar Rally 2020, Dakar Rally 2021, and Dakar Rally 2022.

We’re going to continue improving, updating, and adding to the game. Thank you all for your patience and constructive feedback. We appreciate it!

Just proofs one should always wait before buying a new game. Not saying all have issues at release but waiting a months or so doesn't hurt.

Also, since the G25 isn't listed, does that mean it won't be supported ? Or was it already supported ? I know it's old but many are still using it - including myself. If it won't be supported I can scratch the game from my list.

That's just pathetic how most developers support only a limited set of wheels since almost 15 years while most games from early 2000's have a generic wheel support and work perfectly with any wheel.

Today they don't even support all current wheels, and I'm not even talking about how problematic it is if you play with an old wheel or months/years after the release with a wheel released after the game... You put a lot of money in high end wheels and can't use them with half of the games...

When you know all those wheels use the same standard protocol and the lack of support is simply a lack of detecting the wheel ID as a wheel, instead of having a generic haptic device detection, it makes it totally ununderstandable and unacceptable.

Good news, I may pick the - now actually complete - game up on the Steam sale today.
Has anybody tried Logitech's DFGT with this game yet?
Thanks.

What I like:
- They also allow you to unlock classic cars in Pro mode which is nice.
- I like that they improved the bikes, they were really odd to ride previously with it easily snap out of control too easily.
- The AI is definitely better but they still crash out a bit too often.

What I dont like:
- The extend route only cover sim mode. Pro and casual mode do not get new tracks

If someone could confirm that multiple controller (wheel and peds on separate USB ports) are now supported, I might be inclined to give this a go.

With my putting in 2 tickets  + 2 patches later  ...I can now STEER via my Logi G27! Who would of thought that a car racing game may need to calibrate a wheel in order to steer?
Thank God my wheel made it on the list  , I was worried as the Logi G27 model is 12 years old (I've only had mine for 8 years). She's in mint condition & I have NO need/plans to invest in a New $400 rig...YIKES! :whistling:

They will add more in the next years don't worry :)

I guess the CSW 2.5 could work as it has a compatibility mode right? (not sure, never needed it when I owned one)

I don't care. I'm mostly one of those NO VR NO BUY kind of people. And whilst these kind of games are perfect for a gamepad, displayed in pancake mode, I never feel like playing that way anymore.

The game is amazing, sure is not done yet but the developers are doing a heck of a job, maybe they brought the game out now because it will be soon Dakar 2023 and it little late to brin the old rallies, I think. But they are listening and making the game better. Graphics are amazing, handlign is great, physics could be better I hope it get better.

You must be a Need for Speed fan. Because that's what this game is. It's Need for Speed Dakar. And there is no need for you to keep telling us how "great" the game is. Reviewing time is over, the verdict is out. Nobody likes it. Not even those who liked Dakar 18.

Well it's an arcade game that was originally designed to be played with what most kids and "casual" arcade players play. Gamepads. (exluding the motorcycle games because there is no other option other than the gamepad).

It almost looks like these companies sponsor the game developers to support only their products.

My fanatec wheel works in compatibility mode. The free dlc has the simulation stages which are roughly an hour in length for each one.

I'm afraid not. TS-PC Racer + Fanatec ClubSport V3's here and it just won't map the pedals correctly.

I am, however, having a blast on a controller.
