RaceRoom Update Brings New Life to P1 and P2 Class

RaceRoom January 2022 Update 01.jpg
Sector 3 has released an update for RaceRoom that brings minor fixes and improvements, plus an overhaul to the physics of the P1 and P2 class cars.

It's been a busy year already for RaceRoom Racing Experience. Already in 2022 the sim has added TT Circuit Assen and new layouts of Indianapolis Motor Speedway, plus we recently heard that Ferrari will soon be joining the roster of cars on offer.

Instead of only relying on the success of new content, the development team has been making improvements to existing cars and tracks as well. The most recent batch of improvements to existing content focused largely on the P1 and P2 prototype classes.

P1 and P2 are the top prototype classes in R3E. Over the past few years Sector 3 has been improving many of the older car classes, and P1 and P2 are two of the notable classes that were due for an update. While the classes aren't filled with the bigger name LMP1 and LMP2 cars we've seen compete in recent years, there are notable cars like the Audi R18 and the Chevrolet Daytona Prototype.

This is perhaps not the update some players had hoped for, as the recently added Indy oval layout is begging for a low aero package of the Formula RaceRoom US car. Currently there are no oval cars to race on the Indy oval, and the Daytona oval remains inaccessible but present in the game, so it seems that RaceRoom is on the cusp of opening up more oval racing opportunities.

The changelog is noted below. This isn't a huge update, but the tweaks and improvements are also welcome, and the revitalized prototype classes give us something else to enjoy in RaceRoom. Let us know your thoughts on the changes in the comments below.

  • Shared Memory API - Fixed an issue with pit menu states
  • BMW M235i - Slight reduction of fuel consumption
  • Electric vehicles - Fixed various issues introduced while adding support for hybrid engines
  • GT2’s -Equalised fuel consumptions
  • P1 & P2 - Complete physics overhaul (leaderboards wiped)
  • WTCC TC1’s - AI improvements, equalised gear ratios
  • Zakspeed Capri - Increased rear wing downforce at 10 degrees yaw

Is it just me guys, or are the P2's almost impossible to get out of a corner?
Was driving Daytona and coming out of the infield for instance, it just snaps with no hope of saving. Even if the throttle is very, very low.

Two things stand out:

1. "Adding support for hybrid engines"... now there's a tantalizing clue for the future, possibly!
2. Overhaul of P1s and P2s: given RaceRoom's potential to run short and medium length daytime multiclass endurance racing (like Britcar or IMSA sprint races) this is great news. Even for single player: RaceRoom's AI is a little too 'door-bangy' in multiclass, but can get through traffic pretty efficiently in my experience, which is cool.

Meh. The thing RR needs most to thrive in this quickly expanding arena is a steady and growing player base.

It is just my opinion that they missed the biggest trick with their current revenue model. They are so close as it stands but the 'premium' buy it all package should be for all existing + all future content. The price of the premium package would increase as the total content included followed suit. The beauty then is players would continue to return (and stay hopefully) when new content drops and new players would be joining all the time due to the populated servers/active community etc. I do appreciate that there is already a healthy community surrounding the game but I am trying to think about greater growth and popularity than it already enjoys.

This model I think would create a value proposition with a sense of FOMO and it could well be a winning formula as it does not exist in the Sim racing space currently or anywhere come to think of it. Maybe because it's a non-starter?

What does "Daytona oval remains inaccessible" mean? Has it been removed from being selected to race on?

In the changelog, this kind of jumps out at me...

Hybrid engines? What hybrid engines are present in RaceRoom? As far as I know, there are none. But there are quite a few Prototypes and Formula cars with Hybrid engines, I would like to come to RaceRoom. Being that this is a specific update for P1 and P2 in R3E, I'm left wondering if this class of cars is getting prepared to expand? I'm not getting my hopes for anything up. Just thinking aloud... In text form.

You just need to get used to them a little. Do some laps and it will be fine. Daytona is actually the easiest one to drive I think, while DMD21 is the hardest.
Both Radicals and Mistral are quite docile too, although the SR9 is slightly easier to drive than Judd, which is surprising looking at the torque figures.

With P2 some patience is of course required coming out of tight corners. Be gentle with the throttle. Apply it gradually as you straighten the wheel. Also, use some TC. I tried driving with TC off and you have to be focused as hell, and in the long run I was slower. While you may be ok hotlapping, in the longer race TC off is just crazy.
Also, driving with TC off can really screw you over if there is an elevation change coming out of the corner.
I use at least 30% TC with P2 class, and with DMD21 more

Thanks mate; TC is is than!
Normally, its always off and I can "feather" the throttle, but in this case......nope!
It is SO sudden, there is no saving whatsoever.
Have to do TC, I will.

Same here, I usually drive without TC, but P2 is just too easy to spin, which leads to a ruined race, so why fight it ;)

None of the existing cars in the game use hybrid engines. Their new fantasy F1 2022 car will probably come with a hybrid engine. WTCR also wants to introduce hybrid systems in 2023.

greedy world so never would happen

Shure, but will they fix the smooths as glass roads that i drive on. Cant really feel the road, so it does not matter what content they have, the feel of the road does it all for me.

Just saying turning off TC will just make you slower in all cars that have it built in. There's nothing wrong with using assists when the cars come with them built in from the factory. Real race drivers don't turn off ABS or TC either.
