Have Your Say – Which Racing Title Is Overdue for a Sequel?

Sim Racing Sequel 01.jpg
Let us know in the comments below which racing game or racing sim you’d most like to see get a sequel first.

Racing titles can have an unusually long life span relative to other sports games. We want to hear which racing sim or racing game you feel is now due (or overdue) for a sequel.

There are many reasons why a racing title might be due for a sequel. Some might be at or near the limits of the gaming engine it’s built on. Others might be based on cars, tracks or racing series that are no longer relevant. Still others might be long forgotten by the developer, or the developer has gone out of business, and the game needs an update for modern hardware and gaming engines.

The racing game and racing sim community has been made aware of pending sequels for Assetto Corsa and Gran Turismo. Little is known about the AC sequel so far, but the GT title appears to be better versions of the existing, successful premise. Games like Need for Speed, GRID and Forza Horizon also have sequels pending. In this case the new release is an updated version of a proven formula, but some titles might be due for an overhaul.

RaceRoom and rFactor 2 are both currently supported titles that date back to 2013. New content, bug fixes and general improvements are frequently released by developers Sector 3 and Studio 397, respectively. But in both cases the game is based on an engine that provides players with a rewarding sim experience while lacking the eye-popping graphics of many of their contemporaries. Perhaps either or both are due for a new title on a more modern engine.

There are also discontinued titles and series such as Grand Prix, GTR and Driveclub that fans have been wishing to see updated for years. Grand Prix 4 is considered by some to be the greatest racing title ever made. GTR3 was reportedly in development over the past few years, though most now consider the project to be terminated based on the cancellation of the social media accounts. Driveclub is a cult favourite in the console world, with fans still enjoying the underrated game while curious outsiders seek physical copies to buy online to try it out.

So let us know in the comments below which sequel you’d most like to see in development. Maybe it’s a current title that’s now showing its age, or maybe it’s a mostly forgotten title that deserves a reboot on modern hardware. Let us know what title you’d want to see, and what changes you’d like to see versus the previous edition.

I think the game that I consumed the most (literally since the disc no longer works haahaha) was Gran Prix 4 by Geoff Crammond, a longtime simulator legend. I really cut my teeth on that game. Personally, I really believed in the GTR3 sequel but no shame. So I fall back on rfactor2 which is now from 2013 that should be dusted off for good. :D :D

I'd like to see an Indycar Racing 3, but they should pick up where they left off. Indycar was the 1993 season. ICR2 was 1995. Indycar 3 should be 1997 plus expansions.

For cusual gaming : Rallysports challenge 3 (xbox ) , Project Gotham Racing 5 and maybe Sega GT !
For Simracing : Rfactor 3 , Assetto Corsa 2 (currently in developpment )

Simply every sim racer.......all outdated.....except ACC though

Has PGR not been replaced by the Forza series ?

Oh, so the GTR3 fora ran dead, I reckon?
GPL still works fine for me - what's the fuzz? :D
Besides, I don't miss anything, really.
For the time being and the next uncertain while I'll be too busy simracing, sadly, but until a couple of weeks ago I ran GTR2 mods, rFactor mods, GPL-mods, mods of older SimBin-family WTCC, Race07, STCC, STCCII, STCC10 and Raiza Stock Car Extreme mods at least some days every month, not to forget Raiza Copa Petrobras de Marcas and have had plenty of fun in those old games.
Switching to newer graphics marmelade in 1st row AC CSP+SOL mods, rF2, AMS, R3E, PC2 - and iRacing (not prolonging my membership, will close tomorrow due to lack of time) I don't really miss anything.

....but hey! GTR3 could still be great! :D

rF2 - they can fill it with content and PBR as much as they want, this needs a reboot with a bit more focus and they won't manage by slightly tweaking the existing build. RBR is up there as well. I am starting to shake at the prospect of a real AC2 but I'll manage for a while longer with the likes of RSS, CSP and Pure :)

Grand.Prix.Legends.
But I think it would be impossible to please all the GPL Fans- or Freaks (me included).
The Devs would have to deliver absolute Perfection in all Areas to really convince them. No matter how outdated it is, or how inaccurate the physics are, or how simplified the AI Physics, GPL still delivers one of the most polished Environments to race in.
There's just Atmosphere.
GTR2 comes very close in terms of 'Full package', but a Sequel would have to include the Fia GT Cars of 2003/2004 instead of GT3.
I would say RSS Mods & Assetto Corsa nearly fill that Gap, though...

Raceroom needs a serious engine upgrade or a ton of new code added as the current track technology is equivalent to FM4.

I'd also love to see a RBR 2 or a good rally sim developed.
