The Playstation 5 and Xbox Series S/X releases are a welcome sight for owners of the current generation of consoles. Sony has sold over 10 million PS5 units worldwide, with Microsoft’s Series S and X consoles exceeding 6 million units sold, but the racing game genre has been slow to adopt the improved capabilities of the latest consoles.

The mobile version of Assetto Corsa is the first thing fans will be able to get their hands on, with release scheduled for Tuesday. Whether racing sims are viable on handheld devices will be debated for years to come, but the idea of having any version of Assetto Corsa in our pockets is something that’s sure to appeal to many fans.

Although Kunos and 505 Games were vague about the future content for ACC, just knowing more is coming is good news. It’s easy to assume the coming cars outside of the BMW M4 GT3 could be GT2 cars. Competizione’s deal with SRO will continue to dictate the content, and with the majority of the current GT3 and GT4 cars already in place, GT2 is likely next. If this proves true, Competizione players can expect GT2 entries from Audi, Ferrari, KTM, Lamborghini and Porsche. Time will tell.

In addition to the cars, the tease of new tracks is equally intriguing. There were hints that future tracks would include American circuits. If this turns out to be the GT World Challenge America courses, that could mean the addition of Sonoma, Circuit of the Americas, Virginia International, Road America, Watkins Glen, Sebring and Indianapolis. It’s a big wish, but any of these tracks would be a great addition to ACC.

So, lots of exciting things coming from Kunos and 505 games in the future. They haven’t given us much in the way of detail to the forthcoming content for Assetto Corsa Competizione or Assetto Corsa 2, but the news of 9th generation consoles getting proper versions of ACC is a big deal in the console racing world, and most sim racers are probably going to give in to temptation and keep AC in our pockets via mobile.

Let us know your thoughts on the announcements, and which bits of news have you most excited for the future of the Assetto Corsa franchise.

I purchased AC for one reason. Availability of SOME of the Can-Am cars & tracks. rF2 has a couple of ports from AC, but only the T70 Lola. I also grabbed the Trans-Am cars but haven't even installed them. My gripe about AC, the AI run off track at fairly simple corners and beach. Usually the same corner over and over. So trying to run a offline race against about a dozen AI usually ends fairly quickly. Some of the cars navigate the corner effortlessly, while others(Lola T260) seem to have a very slow steering box. So Steam will report I'm using AC, but not that I'm joining on-line races. Same for rF2, rarely go on-line. Rarely do full races anymore. More like extended test runs.
ACC is my only other sim at this time, I had to reduce the graphics quite a-bit to get it running smoothly on my 5+ years old system. For some reason, rF2 looks better at lower rez's vs ACC. ACC looks grand at max settings, but suffers more jaggedies than rF2 at lower settings.

I don't want AC2 if I'm going to be completely honest.

I think the time of the "kitchen sink" driving sim is over. The reason is that the customer's expectations have grown to such a degree, such as expecting ever more detailed cars, ever more detailed tracks that must be laser scanned (and woe betide the dev if there's so much as a kerb out of place). Couple that with realistic day night cycles, realistic dynamic weather, and the insane amount of content expected as well, then you end up with a game that will either never be completed, or will end up being released as a half arsed attempt.

Then there's the question of whether the physics engine will be general and complete enough to be able to handle all manner cars - will it perform well with both high aero grip, pure mechanical grip and everything in between? So far the answer has been no

With such an undertaking you're most likely only going to get a compromise. The last two such sims were AC, which won the hearts of the sim racing community, and PC2, which didn't. Both are compromises, but coming at it from different angles and they're both far from perfect. We're seeing yet again with AMS2 - too much concentration on content is havi a negative effect on the simulation aspect of the game.

In my mind we're better off overall with sims that concentrate on specific series. This reduces the content workload, and also allows for the fine tuning of the physics to match the behaviours of the type of cars in the series, thus giving us a far better experience overall
Completely agree. Developpers are always better at certain types of cars than others. AMS2 is a good exemple: I am not convinced at all by the GT cars or the Porsche Carrera cars, and I play that sim mainly for the Brazilian stock cars, which are just great. Their historic F1s are also very good. Raceroom is another example: great touring cars but I don’t like their open wheel cars at all.

If I had to guess, they could fill in the gap in GT4 class with Supra and Mustang participating this year (2) + GT2 cars, excluding Ferrari that only raced once (4), so 6 in total. Though at the same time I don't see why not add the Ferrari, since they already have the model and all data in original AC for the Ferrari competition. Unless 6 cars was a mistake, then yes, 5 GT2 cars.
Also hope they fill in the Valencia and Magny Cours gap, if there is stuff other than American, under SRO agreement tracks. Though really looking forward to US tracks. Definitely expect Indianapolis as it will also complete Intercontinental Challenge too. The whole US series track pack will be splendid. Glad they will keep ACC alive for a while.

AC2 will have to have multiple real world classes/categories with a well defined racing structure behind it, Plus the ability to mix classes and install mods.

Best of both worlds.

Personally I like both AC and ACC but stopped playing ACC purely because the VR is trash.

Worst news possible from Kunos ! :

- Nothing planned on DLSS to fix the VR performance of ACC.
- Many time wasted on mobile games.
- Still no confirmation about if there will be VR-focus development on AC2.
- Focus on console, so less development time on PC/VR development

Edit: Now that I saw the video, I see that Mike Smith (which usually does great reporting) forgot to mention the DLSS part to the "Miscellaneous" list... If it will work good for VR too then this is the biggest news of the whole video!

Console User base....Bazillions of kids
VR User Base....12

that should answer everything

This is good news, DLSS and AC 2 coming, plus physics update for the old
AC, and more nice tracks for ACC, maybe the american classics like
Road America, Watkins Glen, etc. This is all very good news to be content
about.

Physics update for the old AC? Where? The tire model update is for ACC.

Besides, it's not like we need or want KS to touch AC anymore. CSP is already doing just about everything as good or better. AC's been getting constant physics updates for a few years now.

Dunno where all this hype of american (or any other) tracks is coming from. There was absolutely no mention of any new race track during Kunos reveal on august 27th. There was only talk about negotiations with SRO about future content, the M4 and 5-6 undisclosed cars were announced. The rest is pure speculation. Don't get me wrong, I'm the first in line for more tracks...

Also, DLSS is planned for implementation on PC. Q1 2022 at the latest IIRC. If it improves pancake mode why wouldn't it VR too??

They did run something at the bottom of the screen during one of the videos (while Marco was interviewed) that said something like ”New Cars and Tracks Coming”

Yep, but as Tinman Jenson Button said, during the actual interview, Marco only mentioned cars.

I posted the same note a few days ago.

I think the message was quite misleading during the showcase.

While I was thrilled that they read my Facebook question with my name on the event, they didn’t answer it fully. Specifically what tracks are coming to ACC in the next DLC? Maybe they couldn’t do so as someone suggested due to current licensing negotiations? Here’s hoping for more American tracks like Mid Ohio, Sebring and my all time hands down favorite Watkins Glen.

American tracks were mentioned in the exclusive event earlier in the week, so no speculation there.

No, his comment was:

"There was absolutely no mention of any new race track during Kunos reveal on august 27th."

And there was a mention of it, as I detailed.

"Assetto Corsa 2 currently in early research and development phase"

Being the kind and helpful person I am, I'll be glad to help with this, it's not that hard anyway:
Code a new engine, reaquire all licenses for all cars and tracks of AC1, add Lotus Esprit Turbo and Porsche 959, bring graphics and sounds up to 2021 standards, add rolling start and current tire model from ACC, add 24h cycle and rain (so everyone can decide for himself to still rather drive during the day and in the dry), release SDK for modders to allow them to update their stuff for AC2.
End of R&D!

Your welcome:D
