Assetto Corsa 2 launching Spring 2024

The much anticipated true and faithful follow-up to the first Assetto Corsa has had its release period surface online. We can expect an early 2024 release!

The original Assetto Corsa launched in late 2014, and it’s still going on strong today. It has become the darling of the online sim racing modding scene. It didn’t matter what kind of racing anyone wanted to do. If the player wanted vintage Grand Prix racing, modern day sports prototypes or even a massive dinosaur, AC could do it.

In 2018, its GT-racing focused cousin Assetto Corsa Competizione was released. Whilst a very solid sim, the lack of variety limited its appeal. The sim racing community has been waiting with baited breath for news of Assetto Corsa 2 and when it would be releasing. Now it seems we have an idea.

AC2 Spring 2024

In an image posted by video game industry analyst MauroNL on Twitter. It seemed to be a quarterly financial report gave us the information. It recounts the information on the first two instalments. Right at the bottom, it specifies Spring 2024 as the expected release date for the second version of Assetto Corsa.

Spring traditionally runs from 21 March to 21 June. This will mean just over nine years will have passed between the release of the first and second iterations of Assetto Corsa.

Best of Both Worlds

The original Assetto Corsa may still be the standard for a lot of online racing, but it is very much limited due to being an older game. With just four years between the original and ACC, the quality of the graphics improved exponentially.

But like has already been said, ACC is specifically GT-racing focussed and has less to process. It was developed on Unreal Engine 4 whilst we have seen how Unreal Engine 5 looks with a racing sim through Rennsport.

Here’s every bit of hope that AC2 – or whatever it may end up being called – can have the variety of AC but the refinement of ACC.

I think that in this round the game will be "armored" and no longer moddable like Assetto Corsa.
They will never make the same mistake again.
The hell are you talking about? Your logic seems very braindead to me lol
Without the mod support, no one would play that game nowadays.

I know of no big game that had nothing to show for and not details about it one year before the release. Things like what engine will it use, what scope are they going for are for sure decided by now.

rFactor2
On January 10, 2012, the first open beta (Test Build 49) was released.
In October 2010, Camaj revealed in an extensive interview plans for including licensed content, a new reworked UI, inclusion of dynamic weather, new innovative dynamic racing surface technology, improvements to the AI logic, and a new force feedback system with lower input lag and much faster and more direct steering rack forces.
In December 2011, more features were confirmed to be included in the upcoming open beta, including rain, wet/dry track transitions, dynamic track elements (groove/marbles), new tire model, new physics, and a new collision model.

My opinion here is divided... do kunos see the MODDED AC the way we see it i.e mind blowing fantastic or do they see it as the modders are carving away there product essentially building a new looking game therefor taking praise away from them!!

Surely they must admire guys like peter boese (SOL) and the CSP modder i forget his name, could they be approached to become a part of the kunos team due to there skills. Would they join or are they making plenty cash via patreon

Either way i am happy for another AC

Well considering the state in which RF2 was released, i would consider that an example of what NOT to follow...

Besides, that was an open beta release, not a proper 1.0 release and from end 2010 to early 2012 is still more than a year.

You said ..................

That is rubbish ! At least have the front to admit it !
They released many details more the a year before the release.
Open your eyes !

25 or 27 or ... ? :p

If only Assetto Corsa was as attractive as a Gran Turismo with simple menus, a nice presentation ofś circuits all with promises kept (such as animations in pits stops or ray tracing lol) then yes Kunos would have everything right.
Ac had many things missing you are right but I believe with their new custom engine they will manage to release a better game this time

Mods are a two edged sword, you can find some good stuff among piles of garbage and plain rips from other games, paired with moody modders with spotty or non existing support for their creations, even paid ones.
In the end it's just a poor substitution for the lacking official content.

If AC, out of all sims out there, lacks official content, with a list of cars that makes iRacing blush, it really sounds like you're looking for quantity, not quality.

And yet we have several cars and tracks from ACC in AC.

I'll say it now, and I'd bet my house on it, there will be no modding in AC2.
Not totally sure how they got away with this long anyway, PCars models Forza models GT models rfactor2 models and tracks all in AC and seemingly no one has ever asked Kunos to stop that.

No chance they will do that again.
Big question should really be "what will they do with AC towards that date?
If they don't kill it then AC2 will struggle to take over AC or get anywhere near 28 million units sold.
I think kunos will kill AC by making every thus far incompatible.

I hoe they don't, so no point shouting at me, but trust me if i was them i would.

Right, shooting yourself in the foot by changing the recipe after making 56 million from your first official product that still shines 8 years after release is a perfectly sane choice. Tip: don't bet your house on it.

If you count all Lotuses, yes. :roflmao:

I wonder if they have a developer forum for, "What'd I like to see in the game."

AC and ACC only falls short for me with no online AI. I'd love to recommend this to Kunos. Otherwise, I enjoy their games.

Will this be the first complete title for Kunos without Stefano?
I'm curious to see how or if it changes.
AC has been a powerhouse and the 'new' GT Legends in terms of longevity and sales.
I am optimistic.
They have a good base to pull from in terms of asking what people want

as long as they realize it is the modding community that has made this game what it is and follows that continued path in AC2 I see no problems. My only real fear is a PC3 style next game. But I think/hope that won't happen.

I've never opened the "main" game of AC ever. I bought it, paid for the Content manager and did it that way always.

Hmmm… I never liked how ACC looked on my system not being able to run it on max settings on my good old mobile GTX 1070. AC with CSP/Sol mods looks more than fine with much better performance. Have not played any Unreal 5 engine based games yet, so have no idea how that will look and perform. Excited though for AC2, or any new sim racing game, as long as it has a good single player experience.:)
Graphically, they will be a full generation past ACC, so if you are counting on your older system being able to churn out pixels like AC, you are in for NOTHING but disappointment.
