Assetto Corsa 2 launching Spring 2024

The much anticipated true and faithful follow-up to the first Assetto Corsa has had its release period surface online. We can expect an early 2024 release!

The original Assetto Corsa launched in late 2014, and it’s still going on strong today. It has become the darling of the online sim racing modding scene. It didn’t matter what kind of racing anyone wanted to do. If the player wanted vintage Grand Prix racing, modern day sports prototypes or even a massive dinosaur, AC could do it.

In 2018, its GT-racing focused cousin Assetto Corsa Competizione was released. Whilst a very solid sim, the lack of variety limited its appeal. The sim racing community has been waiting with baited breath for news of Assetto Corsa 2 and when it would be releasing. Now it seems we have an idea.

AC2 Spring 2024

In an image posted by video game industry analyst MauroNL on Twitter. It seemed to be a quarterly financial report gave us the information. It recounts the information on the first two instalments. Right at the bottom, it specifies Spring 2024 as the expected release date for the second version of Assetto Corsa.

Spring traditionally runs from 21 March to 21 June. This will mean just over nine years will have passed between the release of the first and second iterations of Assetto Corsa.

Best of Both Worlds

The original Assetto Corsa may still be the standard for a lot of online racing, but it is very much limited due to being an older game. With just four years between the original and ACC, the quality of the graphics improved exponentially.

But like has already been said, ACC is specifically GT-racing focussed and has less to process. It was developed on Unreal Engine 4 whilst we have seen how Unreal Engine 5 looks with a racing sim through Rennsport.

Here’s every bit of hope that AC2 – or whatever it may end up being called – can have the variety of AC but the refinement of ACC.

I'm sure it'll be a good sim, but the only way it will be a true successor of AC, will be to allow mods with open arms. I shall wait penitently :)

Thats it?

Really sparse on details. No scope of the game, no general direction, nothing...

Have the feeling they will just grab the ACC engine, call it AC2, change the content and there you go, but i have no tabs inside kunos, so i am just speculating.

I am only sure of one thing.
AC2 will be a good game, and i will purchase it.

Every game from Kunos has been great in my opinion, and i always play them with the same pleasure.

Why not a netkar pro 2 !

There was a lot of talk that they are developing an in-house engine for it. Not sure if 100% officially confirmed, but I am under the impression that Marco might have said it in an interview.

i'm very interested to see how this turns out, if there's modding then that'll alleviate a lot of my worries, if no modding then i hope it's not just a random bunch of cars again like ac 1 was

The game will be released in *a year*. So, isn’t it a bit early to ask for details?
Err no, its not. Unless by "release" they mean some sort of early access scheme. I know of no big game that had nothing to show for and not details about it one year before the release. Things like what engine will it use, what scope are they going for are for sure decided by now.

It has been stated by Kunos a year ago that they are going with their own engine instead of using an Unreal one.

I think that in this round the game will be "armored" and no longer moddable like Assetto Corsa.
They will never make the same mistake again.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Mods are what made AC great, just like the original rFactor! If modding isn't available in AC2, I'll just stick with AC1... Modding support helps the longevity of a game after development stops. Removing that just wastes potential :(

I was 27 yo when ac released...never felt so happy about a racing game and I have played a LOT! I hope Kunos release ac2 on early access and every second Friday throw an update with cars and tracks just like the first one....really enjoyed it

this thing was explained so many times and some people like you still dont get it.... its licenses. and they already confirmed it a year ago if not even earlier that it will be moddable like ac.

They did? I thought each time they'd been asked the question they'd fudged a very non committal answer.

25 or 27 or ... ? :p

If only Assetto Corsa was as attractive as a Gran Turismo with simple menus, a nice presentation ofś circuits all with promises kept (such as animations in pits stops or ray tracing lol) then yes Kunos would have everything right.

Thats my impression too, they have been very cagey about it, and lets be honest, nice as it is that AC1 is still around, they are not getting any money from it, the mod makers are ironically.
