2022 Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix

For the last race before Formula 1 takes its summer break, the teams will battle at the Hungaroring for round 13 of the 2022 season.

Max Verstappen brings a commanding 63-point lead in the drivers standings to the final F1 race before the 2022 summer break. He and teammate Sergio Perez have also opened up an 82-point lead in the constructors standings for Red Bull.

Last time out, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc seemed to be on his way to a win in France, but ended his race early after a mistake in turn 11 landed him in the tire barrier.

His teammate Carlos Sainz was on an impressive charge from the back of the field after taking a grid penalty, but a questionable strategy call from Ferrari brought Sainz into the pits late in the race and limited him to fourth at the end of the race.

France was also the first double podium for the driver pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell of Mercedes. The duo have been held outside of contending for wins all season, so the 2-3 finish was an impressive finish for the Silver Arrows.

Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel will race for the final time in Hungary this weekend. The four time champion has announced that he will retire at the end of the season.

Stormy weather is possible for Saturday's sessions, as well as rain for Sunday, so the wet conditions could result in interesting qualifying and race results.

What are your picks for the Hungarian Grand Prix? Will this be another strong showing for Verstappen and Red Bull? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I love how Russell is already in Hamilton's fans heads. Every race thread lately and they can't keep it under control how happy they are if Lewis somehow managed to come home ahead of George.

And speaking of that, i loved how the british commentators were already sure Russell would open the door as soon as Hamilton would catch him, only to be proven wrong. Russell is no Bottas, and despite the clear favoritism inside of Mercedes (Toto is the biggest Hamilton fanboy in the world) i am sure Russell will only get stronger.

Oh and speaking of Hamilton, this is what he had to say after the race about Max:

"“If you look at Max’s race - he started 10th, spun, and still won the race,” Hamilton said after the race. “That says pretty much everything about his car.” "

The lack of class is astonishing... i am sure he failed to see how fast Perez was going all weekend.

I refuse to pile on about Ferrari's strategy again. Here is why.

Ferrari, right now, reminds me of a guy I played basketball with. He was 6'4" about 200lbs, ran like cheetah and could jump out of the gym. We would be in practice and he would make mistake after mistake. The coaches and the players would constantly complain about his bonehead plays.

One day it dawned on me. They put him on the team because he LOOKED like a basketball player. He wasn't, he just had all of the attributes everyone looks for. The coaches wouldn't admit he should have been cut. It became abuse after a point.

Ferrari LOOKS like a title contender, beautiful car, history, 2 drivers that have talent. But they are not a team to win a championship. Yelling at them about it just abuse at this point.

What he was saying is that the car is fast enough that you can mess up and still win. Where is the lack of class ? That statement is true.

Myself, and a lot of people would argue that the driver did a lot of the heavy lifting today. Like i said, Perez is no slouch, and he was absolutely nowhere.

But it seems it's very hard for Hamilton, and many others, to just aknowledge this.

Shockingly poor strategy by Ferrari. Having two cars ahead of Verstappen it would have made perfect sense to cover him off on the same strategy with at least one car.

But no instead they try and fail to race Russell. As a result Verstappen slips past. What were they thinking fitting the hard tyre for what was intended to be Leclerc's last stint. The tyre clearly had warm up issues and just did not work on other cars. Why risk it?

Congrats to Mercedes on punching above their weight again and to Verstappen on a (nearly) flawless drive.

What a exiting race from start to finish I enjoyed every minute of it. What a drive by Max p10 to p1 like never seen before but with help from Ferrari tacticts ;) Bad luck again for Charles.

This time I am not sure Leclerc would have won with a better strategy. They didn't mess Sainz's strategy and he couldn't do better than 4th.
About the Hungarian GP - it's usually a procession here, but places changed quite a bit today. Not the greatest race, but not too bad either
I don't think the Hunagrain GP deserves that "procession" label anymore. It has given good races over the last years.

Because, again, Sainz has shown that, come Sunday, he's not close to the best drivers.

As Brundle said after they put Leclerc on hards...Ferrari's first stop should have been for softs. They were already committed to a two stop strategy by coming in right behind Russel, should gone to softs and then finished on the mediums.

Brilliant race by Max & Red Bull. Congrats to him.

Brilliant race by Lewis too.
Oh no wait: it's only the car!

:)
you DID notice his teammate, who has NEVER won anything, was right behind him didn't you? OBVIOUSLY it is the car. As EVERYONE has said all this season, the Merc is a killer. 4 of the top 10 were Mercs. That is twice as many as any other brand. So it's the car...AND the engine. And those guys wearing red who claim to be race strategists....

Thank you for reminding me why I hardly ever read these retarded comments anymore. Have a nice day.

What a drive by Max! From 10 to 1 on this track and having already problems early in the race with his clutch, which was a factor in his 360 degrees spin. And how many drivers would have handled such a 360 degrees spin, without destroying his tires? This was one of his best races if you ask me.

Also a great drive by Lewis. I am no Lewis fan, but I am glad he is back fighting for podiums and even race wins.

And Ferrari… they may have a better car than RB, but Max is still more than 80 points ahead in the WDC… something needs to change there over the summer holiday…
