2022 Formula One Hungarian Grand Prix

For the last race before Formula 1 takes its summer break, the teams will battle at the Hungaroring for round 13 of the 2022 season.

Max Verstappen brings a commanding 63-point lead in the drivers standings to the final F1 race before the 2022 summer break. He and teammate Sergio Perez have also opened up an 82-point lead in the constructors standings for Red Bull.

Last time out, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc seemed to be on his way to a win in France, but ended his race early after a mistake in turn 11 landed him in the tire barrier.

His teammate Carlos Sainz was on an impressive charge from the back of the field after taking a grid penalty, but a questionable strategy call from Ferrari brought Sainz into the pits late in the race and limited him to fourth at the end of the race.

France was also the first double podium for the driver pair of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell of Mercedes. The duo have been held outside of contending for wins all season, so the 2-3 finish was an impressive finish for the Silver Arrows.

Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel will race for the final time in Hungary this weekend. The four time champion has announced that he will retire at the end of the season.

Stormy weather is possible for Saturday's sessions, as well as rain for Sunday, so the wet conditions could result in interesting qualifying and race results.

What are your picks for the Hungarian Grand Prix? Will this be another strong showing for Verstappen and Red Bull? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Stonker lap from Russell, a perfect lap maximizing the car's potential at that moment, well deserved, and a sort of mixed grid for tomorrow!

I would have expected that kind of grid shakeup from a wet qualifying session, not completely dry! (Though probably not with Russel on pole in the wet given the Mercedes lack of grip in P3.) ;)

Wasn't long ago his hair looked not long for this earth.

It's amazingly regrown like it seems to do when you're rich. Max Biaggi's hair made an amazing comeback as did Jorge Lorenzo's.

I'm not entirely convinced what's left of Hamilton's hair is the real thing either.

Do you mean that the fact that I'm getting bald is simply due to not being rich enough?

Tomorrow.

"And it's lights out, away we go. Perez is ahead of Max in turn 1. Jos Verstappen has just choked Christian Horner. Perez is still ahead in turn 2. Wait, Perez's car has just lost power. Max leads into turn 3. Perez is on the radio, " I have lost power". Checko, please fail 22-6. Wait, the car is going backwards. Oh sorry fail 22-1. " The Stewards will be looking into this one".

It is absolutely mindboggling how incompetent the Ferrari team is (bar the drivers and mechanics). Every time I think their incompetency can't be topped anymore, they come around with some idea and "nope, It can be". :roflmao:
It's also nothing new, it has been the case for the last 10 years now and also cost Vettel a possible championship. In "normal circumstances" (average strategists and decisionmaking) Leclerc should cruise to the WC, but in reality it will be impossible. Actually they can take in every driver and have the best car by some distance, the WC will still be impossible. If they want to win anything in the next 10 years, they must replace their whole management.

Driver of the Day -. Verstappen - no question.

I think in future times I think Hamilton will be remembered along with Schumacher, but Verstappen will be talked about along with Senna.

Love him or hate him, Verstappen has this balls out style that makes him exciting to watch, much like Senna. Hamilton is a calculator like Schumacher was.

As a Ferrari fan I think Leclerc deserves Driver of the Day here: the sheer commitment of that man to have not terminated his contract by now is absolutely immense
I think if I was in Charles' place today, at the 3rd pitstop for softs I would just turn off the car and leave for a drink like Kimi...

Great performance for Mercedes, they're getting better. Man Lewis is driving the hell out of that car.

I hope with this result, we can stop saying that Lewis is getting out-driven by Russell. Lewis has been showing his championship form the last few grand prix, and it's no surprise he gets passed both Ferrari's and a Red Bull.

Ferrari is seriously upsetting to watch every weekend... Why wouldn't they just keep Leclerc out when they know they can't go to medium again? Or at least risk soft for the middle stint and try to stay ahead of Max enough to chew up his mediums? They went to hard without even thinking about how badly Charles would end up dropping back. There were literally 5 or 6 other strategies they could've adopted and they picked the one that even Pirelli was like, "You should never do this". Your strategy has to be particularly awful for your lead competitor to literally spin out and still manage to stay ahead.

Russell is getting better every race... Heartbroken he couldn't keep his win, but there's definitely confidence growing that they can win a race in the second half of the season and maybe even snatch 2nd place WCC from Ferrari.

Another thing we can maybe stop saying after this race - Hungary is Monaco without buildings. When qualifying is predictable and leaders are ahead of the midfield, sure Hungary is a track without a lot of overtakes, but this race had more overtakes than some tracks known for overtakes. The Ricciardo double pass over Ocon and Alonso was brilliant (too bad they Ferrari'd him by giving him H tires). Verstappen and Perez getting past Alpines was also amazing. MV's push to leader group was awesome.

It's gonna be boring but looks like MV has his second WDC in the bag.
Leclerc would need to win almost every race while Max has DNF's in order to win the WDC at this point. And now he has Sainz and both Mercedes to worry about.

Today showed us that even if Max makes mistakes, he can still win the championship. And that's terrifying, considering the entire theory for how Charles could win the WDC is if Max makes mistakes.
