Who will win the Belgian Grand Prix?

Summer break is over, and F1 is back on track at Spa Francorchamps with bad weather looming.

The 2022 Formula 1 championships may be comfortably in-hand for Max Verstappen and Red Bull, but fans will still be excitedly tuning in this weekend as F1 aims to make amends for a disappointing 2021 race at Spa. 2022 could also be the last race we see at Spa for a while.

Last season's Belgian race fell in the midst of a heated battle between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, but no racing was actually done at Spa. Heavy rainfall caused the race to be red flagged after 3 of the scheduled 44 laps. Each lap was run behind a safety car. This event was further controversy for Spa after several major safety incidents, and may have contributed to its rumored imminent removal from the F1 calendar.

For 2022, both the drivers and constructors championships seem to be secured. Red Bull's consistency near the top of the field throughout the season has allowed him to build a comfortable lead over an inconsistent Ferrari team and a Mercedes team that has yet to find a competitive pace.

Sebastian Vettel's farewell tour has just nine race dates left. The four-time drivers champion remains a fan favorite, even in the midst of a difficult season with Aston Martin.

Current McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo and future F1 driver Oscar Piastri were among the most discussed names over the summer break. The former is rumored to be losing his seat in the near future, and the latter will likely be promoted from his reserve driver role soon. Piastri famously quashed the announcement of his agreement with Alpine to replace Fernando Alonso next season.

Rain is in the forecast for Spa this weekend, though it is unlikely to be as disruptive to racing as it was last season.

What are your expectations for the race this weekend? Who do you think will be standing on the podium Sunday? Let us know in the comments below.

I suspect Spa's possible removal from the calendar has much more to do with money than safety. Even F1 fans who don't care much about history or tradition should be worried if they remove the track.

I hope this year will see a full battle for victory between three top teams and that Red Bull does not choose this GP to take an engine penalty on Verstappen's car.

I like the new look SPA, should make it interesting on race day with track limits having real consequences.

A stunning historic racetrack.

Hard to bet against a good driver in the best car. Without rain in the forecast and a track that does not create full course yellows, I think it will be a bit of a boring race. I hope I'm wrong.

I love the track it has a old school vibe to it as it goes through countryside. Something we are loosing to street circits. It is just a bad season as it rains a lot in late August. Its like Suzuka Lets go Japan in monsoon season, Who Ho. Ask yourself who is the best wet racer, If you stop the event and follow a pace car we will never know. Yes safety is important and the FIA would be sued if they forced drivers to race in Danger today. Lets face it most drivers are like Prost and are scared of rain. But it is the challenge of driving in lets say damp conditions that makes a all round driver. Have we seen Senna or Michale Schumacher moan about rain, no. They knew it scared half the grid and minimised cometition. Like they say back home it seperates the boys from the men. The track left due to financhaial reason's and drivers beged for its return. And it is better than most of the tracks. But its about money at the end of the day. Here is a track its bad and stupid but we can pay the registration fee so who cares. (<< That is a Monaco Joke)

Red Bull is taking the grid penalty, but doesn't seem likely to have much affect on the outcome since he is one of 6 doing the same, including Leclerc.

People from north america in particular seem to think that the legal systems of other countries are like the ones there, but they are not. Nobody could sue the FIA over that, because the FIA is not pointing guns to anybody's heads. Did you see anybody get sued over racing on a track that was having missiles close by? Or the families of Bianchi or other drivers suing any track promoter or the FIA because of serious or fatal accidents?

Negligence is something very hard to prove in court, special when activities involve consenting adults. And even when they don't, like the recent deaths of teenagers at motoGP events. Plus, all these contracts these days have clauses that stipulate that you know the risks of what you are doing, and take responsibility.

And i am glad it's like this, or else any dangerous activity or sport would be impossible to exist.

Here's to a great race weekend and a safe and exciting Sunday

Anything would be better than last year's F1A-lure (not sure if it was F1 or FIA, but someone made a serious mistake!)

Spa is my bucketlist European track; F1 would not be the same without it.

We'll always have GPL and rF2 for the REAL 1967 Spa.
Sim racing bucket list!: for our dedicated vintage car modelers and historic track builders to form a consortium to strategically and systematically address large holes in the series and cicuits of old (F1, endurance racing, Can Am, Trans Am, F5000, Formula Libre, touring car, rally)--but on what software?

(Head out of the imaginary clouds.) NOW, BACK TO SPA 2022!

To me is Spa-Francorchamps one of a handful of circuits that define the ethos of Formula 1... together with Silverstone, Monza and Monaco. They carry the history of the sport and should always be present in the calendar. But moving on... I think the latest changes to the track will benefit racing at Spa in general, great to see proper gravel traps again, on corners where they matter. Very much looking forward to this one, hopefully it will be a full race, regardless of type of weather (does a little rain dance) :roflmao:

I predict Max will win, HOWEVER, if everything else were equal and it was Vettel or Alonso buried in the pack while at Ferrari, they would be speared by a back marker at T1.

I’m sorry to say but yes it’s real… nothing more to say
Did you notice the two guy's in back of shot looking like "What the ...?"

Thanks for posting the picture, if someone had told me i wouldn't have believed.

Good to see GRAVEL making a return to F1; it's been a while my old friend.
I have some spare if you want me to throw some down at Paul Richard - let me know.
