Since the late 70s, Urwerk has been developing championship winning Formula 1 machines. By the time Group B entered the picture, rallying took the place of where F1 viewership once was. Wanting a piece of the action, Urwerk put together the cutest machine to run a stage. Drawing from their open wheel knowhow, they opted to use a naturally aspirated powerplant as opposed to the usual turbocharged flavor of the competition. With their HQ being down the street from a british aircraft manufacturer, they decided to make do with some of their aerodynamic experiences, resulting in the giant boxy bodykit affixed to the once diminutive city runabout. "Borrowing" from the RAF Parts bin, the 4r6's received "Fly by wire"-type stability control programs for jumps, and even a radar for detecting spectators ahead of time, pilfered from a older Interceptor aircraft.
