This is an ALPHA release to test a new road construction method I've been working on. The road surface and ground textures here were generated using photogrammetry. The elevation change, road camber angle, and variable shoulder detail is all straight from the photogrammetry. I've been building a ~40 mile network of all my favorite canyon roads around Malibu which I'll be releasing at a later date as a separate track. You can follow my current progress on that project here and also read more details about my photogrammetry process in that thread, if interested.

This particular 2.5 mile stretch of road dubbed "The Snake" is part of Mulholland Highway near Malibu, CA. I've decided to branch it off as it's own track release to both gather feedback on the state of my photogrammetry approach, and also lay the foundation for something that could expand to include the whole of Mulholland Highway.

As alpha release v0.01, here are the current features and limitations:
-Two directions: uphill and downhill
-Timing markers and one split time
-ONLY 1 pitbox
-NO AI line
-NO track map or racing line
-Some obvious visual glitches
-Recommend using GrassFX
-Recommend using Sol with Haze weather

(fireworks are NOT included. Apparently AC randomly spawns fireworks in game July 4th?)

If you're familiar with the area, know that I definitely intend to expand this eastward past Cornell through the twisty rocky section to Las Virgenes. Ultimately it would of course be nice to expand west as well, but I'm not sure how far yet.

The purpose of this early alpha release is to primarily gather information from the community about your preferences. After driving the road, please leave a comment and let me know which area is the #1 most important thing for you to see in the next release update for this track:

A) Longer road / more roads.
B) Fixed visual glitches and better textures.
C) AI and multiplayer capability.
D) Better optimization.
E) Other.

Just amazing, I can't wait for more road! All of your tracks are amazing! And the performance of the GPU is perfect, always 120fps with my RTX 4090, unlike the other track proposed by other modder.
awesome map and i cant wait to see las virgenes added its my favorite road to drive on in the canyon besides stunt road.
This is a very good alpha, the road has definition and has a sense of challenge when pushing your car. The cambered turns and bumps in the road definitely keeps the driving experience active and fun. i like the current width of the road and its length is great for an alpha version.

Only changes this track needs are better optimisation (had some graphic bugs while driving; these weren't game breaking) and some tree to increase the sense of speed on this road. Later on, more road would be appreciated.

Starting off amazing map,
I just played it and I was crying the whole time up and down. Years ago I would come here after school and chill at the spot, I met so many amazing people and made so many memories. To this day I still go back in my camera roll and watch videos of our collective stupidity. I miss the snake so much, I grew up there and a part of me is missing up there still. I hope you add a little bit more to this map, maybe add Kristy's at the bottom for the memory before the fires. (If Possible) Or add Decker after the light at the top. Anyway all I am truly thankful for is this, thank you.

thank you for making this map! it used to be my favorite road to drive on but since the closer ive only walked it since and this is about as perfect of a copy there is especially considering this is an alpha i can only imagine what else you could do!
it is an excellent job, this system may be the future in assetto

Todd, this track looks fantastic! the road texture and detals, the foliage and the hills... beautiful stuff. This is the way to go with newer tracks,
make them photorealistic.

I'd prefer you first fix the glitches because they break the immersion.

Another thing is the trees. Overall they look OK, especially because they are dark, but they show they are 2D sprites, and some look like bilboards, like most of AC's trees. Isn't there a way to make the trees more realistic? I gues 3D trees, like ACC has, eat a lot of FPS. The
best looking trees in AC I've seen are from Deem's winter bare trees
mod/skin, they look the most realistic and add a lot of immersion.

Excellent road, challenging bends and interesting scenery.
Suggestions: Higher fidelity roadside textures and multiplayer support would be highly beneficial. Keep up the good work, truly phenomenal mod.
Really nice track. I do miss the map.
In the uphill version it seems as the track limit is a little narrow somewhere, I can't get a best time when I drive there. And I don't cut the corners too much.
The tarmac is a little too bright in my opinoin, but that might be by design?
But I like it, it short, but I like it this way.
Top stuff dude.
You're seriously leading the way with this technique.
The future of this method and your career in the industry, if that is what you're considering, is very bright.
You are far ahead of ALL commercial products on the market today.

This is excellent work, please keep it up! My vote is for:
A) Longer road / more roads.

Please continue this past Las Virgenes and link up with Stunt Rd, Schueren, Piuma, etc. After all the core roads are built, then I'd say it's time to go back and add AI, etc.

Amazing work, Kudos to the Author! What amazes me is the performance in VR, it is actually less hard on your GPU than traditional tracks/mods which look way less realistic. With some polish and further expansion I see this being the go-to track for showcasing Simracing to the public. Using a Reverb G2 with a 3080 the immersion is mind-boggling, save for some rough meshes and raw terrain features. Thank you much for this!!!
