Its back! We've had a little break from reporting on the modding scene and a lot has happened since our last roundup back in July. Today we have a look at what is hot in the world of community created content for Assetto Corsa. We'll take a look at the latest and greatest cars, tracks and apps released during the last couple of months and let you know our opinions. Read on for more...

I would again like to take this opportunity to remind you that in no way do RaceDepartment endorse these mods or take any responsibility whatsoever for any issues caused by downloading these files. The idea behind the articles is rather simple, to help throw light on some of the wonderful community content created for our favourite racing simulators. If you feel we have missed out some "must have" content, or want to draw my attention to a project you are working on, please feel free to drop me a PM or leave a message in the comments section below….

McLaren-Honda MP4/4 1.0

Latest Release: 25/09/2016

The McLaren Honda MP4/4 needs no introduction as the weapon of choice for the 1988 season, Alain Prost and his young Brazilian team mate Aryton Senna would go on to secure an incredible 15 race victories between them on their way to first and second places in the 1988 Drivers World Championship.

F1VRC has spent considerable time developing this mod for Assetto Corsa, and after 12 months of work the MP4/4 is available to download for the sim. Featuring no less than 4 chassis updates, 12 liveries used throughout the season, a new driver cockpit rainlight animation, multiple tyre compounds and moving wings amongst other features, this is arguably one of the most comprehensive Grand Prix cars created for Assetto Corsa. A must have for open wheel fans partial to some sideways manual shifting fun.

Unlike the McLaren above, this one probably does need a little introduction! The Metalex MTX1-03 was a purpose built open wheel race car used extensively during the mid-1970's in the Friendship of Socialist Countries Cup . Created by jurik1984 and co, the Metalex offers up a surprisingly rewarding driving experience in what is an extremely well-polished mod. Low power and reasonable grip provide a friendly driving experience whist still presenting a good challenge when pushing the edge of performance on a hot lap. Really well made mod, and a great boost to the variety of cars available within Assetto Corsa.

Well Kunos were kind enough to produce a modern day Ferrari for Assetto Corsa, so it only seems right that someone has taken the time to produce a field full of period opponents in which to race against it. This rFactor conversion has been produced to the highest of standards and replicates the full 2013 formula One grid. Using Kunos version 10 tyres for the most recent driving technology from the studio, full animations, individual 3d models and sounds, both league and offline editions and well-crafted AI and talent files, this is an outstanding single player F1 mod for Assetto Corsa. The MSF Italian Modding Team and additional modding team members have created a truly outstanding recreation of the 2013 season, so much so that it almost feels unfair to call this a conversion. Available in League and Offline modes, brilliant work all round. A must have.

Latest Release: 24/09/2016

It's no secret, I REALLY like old cars, so this one is bang on the money for me and a must have. Although still a little rough round the edges in places, the Opel Kadett by eboo and co is an incredibly enjoyable modification for Assetto Corsa. Bringing the venerable Open Kadett to the sim in three configurations, the C GTE, GTE S1 and c V8 "Yellow Psycho III" are all beautifully recreated for the sim. The team behind the mod have been working diligently to improve and develop the mod since its initial release back in September, and acknowledge the areas where further attention is still required.

A very very nice car brought to life in Assetto Corsa, certainly one to watch as development continues.

Virginia International Raceway 1.1

Latest Release: 18/09/2016

Scratch built and one of the most comprehensive and impressive third party tracks released for Assetto Corsa (or any sim for that matter), Virginia International Raceway is simply a masterpiece and easily qualifies as good enough to be official Kunos content. The level of detail that has been lavished on this track mod is simply staggering, with a mega seven layouts included in the download, all containing fully functioning AI files.

Over two years of development has been sunk into this track, and the results are obvious from the moment you load up the mod in game. Already a popular location in real life, this mod is a near perfect recreation of one of America's finest motor racing venues. Simply stunning and an absolute must have for anyone with Assetto Corsa. Epic.

Assetto Corsa Misano MWC.jpg
Misano MWC 1.2

Latest Release: 15/09/2016

Another scratch built track for Assetto Corsa, the Misano MWC 1.2 track has been created by foyol and co and is a nice addition to the sim. Coming with just the MotoGP layout at present, foyol has promised future updates will include different configurations to the track as used by various national and international championships.

Although not a final polished product yet, the current version "feels" and drives very well indeed, and provides some enjoyable offline racing. Further work to the track textures and trackside camera's would benefit the overall visual experience, however the track does offer a very very solid representation of its real world counterpart. Another very nice addition to Assetto Corsa and perfect for many of the road cars in game.

Assetto Corsa Alastaro Circuit.jpg

Alastaro Circuit 1.0.1
Title: Assetto Corsa

Latest Release: 15/09/2016

Jaasu presents a scratch build virtual recreation of the Alastaro Circuit in Finland, bringing five unique layouts of this engaging circuit all created with the aid of Lidar data. An excellent driving experience for the lower powered vehicles in AC, Alastaro also benefits from 3D grass, a dynamic racing groove, up to 40 pit spots on certain configurations and is optimized very well indeed for delivering some solid FPS results.

With developer focus on the more well-known international Grand Prix spec venues for most games, it is highly refreshing to see lesser known locations such as this make it into Assetto Corsa. This is a highly enjoyable track, produced to a very high standard. Excellent.

Assetto Corsa Cadwell Park.png

Cadwell Park 1.0.4
Title: Assetto Corsa
Category: Tracks / Permanent

Latest Release: 25/08/2016

One of the finest club tracks in Europe, Cadwell Park is known for its spectacular undulations set amidst scenic landscapes in the heart of Lincolnshire. Known as the 'Mini-Nürburgring' to British fans, this beautiful track has been lovingly converted to Assetto Corsa by Terra21, with permission from the original rFactor track creator DIGGA. Already with working AI, TV cameras and pit space for 18 vehicles, the track will be receiving a physical road mesh update in future releases. Although room for improvement still exists with the track, improvements have been considerable of late and the future looks very bright indeed. If you like Cadwell Park, then this track is fast becoming a must have piece of content.

Editor’s note - I appreciate the new 1.9 update for AC has "probably" broken the sounds for these mods, but I wrote it before the update and don't want to waste the work! Updates will no doubt be published by the mod authors, so the "last update" date will change very soon, if it hasn’t already. Keep an eye out in our downloads section for updates to the affected mods (if any are affected).

Cheers

Nice write-up as usual @Paul Jeffrey :thumbsup::thumbsup:

The detail on VIR is fantastic and all the mods you've mentioned are great fun.

For those that are new to the site you can "watch" a mod so if it has an update (primarily to fix the sounds, damn it! :roflmao:) you'll see an alert when you next sign in.

I know that URD come in for some stick because they charge for their mods but they've already started working on a sound fix for their cars, unlike most of the other lovely ones I own which will probably stop working :( Fingers crossed though, those will work again soon. Although I did figure out a way to copy across sound banks last time, not sure about the new files though
