Season 7 - Point system

As always I'm happy to race under whatever system the majority decides. However... I do strongly favour the old system or at least some in between compromise. My biggest concern is that under the new points system its very possible that the driver who has driven the best all season will not win the championship.

A few things to note about the comparison table. First, Reik was so dominant last season that it is quite difficult to imagine any point system that could have him not win the championship (and rightly so). I however had a rather ordinary season (4 races DNF or DNS, once a PC issue and three times life caught up with me, I wont let it happen again). I still managed to finish 2nd because the results I did get were strong. I accept that the system should punish me more for failing to finish on so many occations. The new system moves Andy into 2nd rewarding his consistent driving scoring points in every round. This is obviously a good thing. However this is quite an extreme case. Andys best results were a 4th and a 5th (sorry Andy if I sounds harsh here!) My results were very good and very bad.

Imagine Reik gets rear ended in T1 at Monza and is out. It's not beyond imagining. He is then out of the championship. If he wins every other race in the season and I manage to finish 2nd or 3rd in them all (okay that might be a stretch). I win the championship. If someone were to have 1 disconnect and 1 crash, they're hopes are gone.

I think there needs to be reward for getting on the podium. It increases motivation and gives people a real opportunity to climb back up the ladder after a poor race.

In the new system, had I started the four races I got 0 for, I would have only needed to finish 7th in each of them to win the championship of the guy who won 7 races!!! I would have been very disappointed to win the championship under those circumstances.

I think I have much better chance of winning the championship under the new points system, I just dont want to win the championship until I have out raced the current worthy champion!

But I'll do whatever you guys want, and its nice to be back!

I do not mind to use the old system if the majority decide to go with it but the new point system that was suggested by Riek and well demonstrated by David is very interesting one and worth giving it a try in this season as part of the new changes and see how things will fold out..

New system looks good, but I think we should increase the point gaps between top-finishers. Maybe this way:
50, 40, 34, 30, 27, 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
(3pts between 6th and 5th, 5th and 4th, 4pts between 4th and 3rd, 6pts between 3rd and 2nd, and the winner gets 10pts margin)

or this way:
45, 38, 34, 30, 27, 24, 22, 20, 18, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
(the same as previous, but 4pts between 3rd and 2nd, and the winner gets 7pts margin)

I think it will motivate to fight in the front rows, and podium finishers will get worthy points awards.

I agree with most that have been said, including Tim I did make a point system a little while a go, but I didn't post it, because I was unsure if it would be the correct one:

This system recognizes the podium, top 8 and top 12.

About the 70% vs DNF issue, it is very simple, we must use what the game tells us (because of the automated result system uses the log files from the server). Iow what David McC did was the correct way.

Of the different suggestions so far I think I prefere my own , because it still reward the podium, top 8 and top 12 to a certain degree. Alex's is also good, it rewards the winner a bit more than mine did. What do you think?

for justice of race I think is better Alex's more gap but for a bit of chance along championship better Nico's minus gap.
Example 2 race result: one driver did 1st and 3td other driver 2nd and 2nd

Nico: 50+38=88
43+43=86

Alex: 50+34=84
40+40=80

at the end nothing is changed both systems are good

I like the new scores. If one uses current F1 scoring for the three on the podium, it will be as follows. Relationship between the first three.

I guess the main question between these two systems is how much extra should the winner get. I must admit it doesn't matter much to me which of the two systems we adopt, but we got to chose one. Unless I hear any big protests we will use the following point system (based on the feedback received in this thread):
