I don't think this would be a wise business move. There are many more things to race than GT cars and if people have to go elsewhere to race them, that's not good for S3/R3E.
Totally agree.
Personally, I would buy Indycar Experience AND Formel BMW Experience if they make an appereance.
And that's the problem for the guys making these games, because I certainly wouldn't buy those.
The concentration of real series that I have an interest in is one of the key selling points to me, because it's what the 'rival' games don't have. PCARS will have an Indy 'experience' next year, as does RFactor2, but both of those are lacking the concentration that I find appealing here and I fear neither will be done as well as S3 have done DTM and GTM.
PCARS has everything from Go Karts to Formula 1 cars and some of them are good and some of them are less so. They have the Le Mans 24 Hours license, but only one car that ran in the last edition of the race for launch (the Oreca 03, not even the 'R' version), which makes me a little sad.
I'm personally interested in touring and GT Cars; I want to see the best simulator possible for these, as GTR2 and Race07 were, rather than a jack of all trades but master of none. I keep seeing calls for rallying on PCARS' forum and wondering why people can't be happy that the developers are focusing their abilities and resources to make the best track simulator for them.
I'd be interested in PWC, WTCC, Aussie V8s, TC3 series, pre-94 DTM and ETCC, any national or international GT3 and GT4 series and cars (I dream of a Conti Challenge Experience!), regional touring car series, GTE cars and probably prototypes too, as well as historic versions of these (DRM 76....mmmm), but open wheelers, karts, off road, trucks, stock cars etc are a different type of racing and would require significant physics and AI changes that I fear will have a negative impact on other areas of the game that could be developed further with time, as I feel it has with PCARS and others. If this same time were spent improving what we have, to me that would be ideal.
I'm not trying to pick a fight, and I think that your viewpoint is every bit as valid as mine, we're both presenting our personal agendas, and that's what the guys at S3 who have to make the decisions have to deal with (that's not dissimilar to my day job either!) and I don't envy their position at all.
Being a niche product with a speciality is nothing to be ashamed of though; the two best games I have ever bought have been GPL and GTR2 and each has specialised in a particular form of racing and has absolutely nailed it. However, my eyes have been opened to commercial realities by following the PCARS development and seeing what is valuable to the vast numbers of people whose background is vastly different to mine and is more the Forza/Gran Turismo crowd rather than those who were addicted to NASCAR 4 and Sportscar GT years ago, where vastly different vehicles, settings, modes and music genres seem to entice more in.
Either way, I've content I'm happy with and grateful for and if more becomes available in that bracket then my wallet is open. It's definitely one positive to the modular pricing model in R3E; by buying AC or PCARS, I support the development of street cars and point-to-point circuits that took 4x as much time as regular tracks whereas in R3E I'm only shelling out for the pieces of the jigsaw that I'll enjoy.
Sorry, I rambled for longer than I meant to then!
