PC1 Latest Build testing.

Andy_J

I hate Race cheats ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
As you all know, Ian gave me a free pass to test the latest builds and that's what I have been doing for the last week. I will report here as and when I see fit to tell all about my findings.

But I will say that the latest build (296) is quite good. Now lets make some sense of my statement. I used a Lotus 98T in helmet cam using my antique MOMO red wheel and I can honestly report it is coming along much better than I anticipated. The actual feel and immersion is damn fine at this point. The handling is strange at first compared to say...RF2 and FVA, but it grows on you within minutes. At this point in time, this actual car feels good. I like it and I love the Milan circuit. The damage model has come on leaps and bounds.

I am doing some more testing all of next week using a G27 and I will also test some of the other cars that don't interest me as much (I am a F1 nut) and see how the feel in comparison to Shift 2, because that is what I was initially comparing PCars to.

I would like the replay function to have a directors mode though. Something that jumps from action to action and from car to car.

Aside from that, the replay's do crash my PC quite often but I understand that is being looked at.

Watch this space.

LOL, I didn't contradict myself, I simply choose not to lie or exaggerate about other sims as some sim cars in some games feel wrong/under-developed, but a few bad apples can't spoil an otherwise precise package.

Btw, lightweight, disconnected pissy ffb is never right for me, same with all hit and miss simcade games.

Mr. Simcade is still at it I see. He's been dissing pcars for about 2 years without fail. Pathetic really but at least he's got some stamina. He posts on here more than the people who like pcars, and I'm not joking.

Do not waste much time on him and his "Simcade" crusade. I wrote him off as a fool years ago.

For those of you who have not tried the title I can't see you being disappointed.

I don't think there is a need to label David or start calling childish names again. We all had enough of that on here. He is entitled to his opinion. As are you. There are a few on here who like to try and put people down for having an opinion and it's not on.

As for Pcars, it is very good as a game, but the physics will never match AC or GSCE in my opinion, nor the FFB. But I like it for what it is. That's why I am enjoying it now. It is good for what it is.

I just wonder how many of us have drive a race car to the limit to compare which one is more real in physics.for exaple i have drive.but even in that case only one car.clio.if there is any game that is more real than PC please let me know.i want to play the best sim.but i think that some games have so many fan boys that finally makes so bad to their game that they love.they found it perfect and finally the game died day to day.

Well one thing that real racing drivers keep saying over and over again is that traditionally simulators have had too little grip.. or more specifically, "wrong" way of grip. Especially slow corners and low speed, high slip angle grip has been very problematic and continues to be so. pCars and Assetto Corsa are the first "next-gen" simulators that finally seem to be turning this around and making the grip be more realistic, which unfortunately has made a whole bunch of people start calling these games "simcade" when in fact they are probably closer to the truth than say iRacing (which still has massive grip/tire oddities in many of the cars).

I think you'd probably do very well with either AC or pCars.. or if you are on a budget and don't care for graphics then I very highly recommend Game Stock Car (or Stock Car Extreme as it's called on Steam).

The TRUE bottom line however is that at this very moment in time you can't basically go wrong with any of the current crop of simulators. They are ALL infinitely better than anything we had just 5 years ago. It's bizarre how hateful and weird the community has become now that we have more and better choices than ever before throughout simracing history.. but that's human nature I guess. Spoiled for choice, spoiled brats. :)

Most of the hate and name calling came from Pcars fan boys though on here. Terribly upset they were that anyone could dislike their new game. Thankfully most of the childishness has stopped now.

I agree, to an extent. However, if you look at the history of these forums and this website in general you can not deny the absolutely bizarre hate towards Slightly Mad Studios as a developer. It's been a knee jerk reaction to defend the project and quite rightly so in my opinion. I mean, just a few years ago people were making up lies about how the project was progressing and a lot of bitter people who were kicked off the WMD forums raised a real ruckus here. Heck it got so far that as I remember it, the boss of SMS was ready to sue racedepartment.com. There were some slanderous things said about them.. all because of SMS's past with Electronic Arts.

Then again, AC fans have had a hard time too with the iRacing crowd so that may explain their behavior too.

But yeah, from my point of view, what comes around goes around and that's exactly what has happened.

Then there's the weird group who still insists that Project CARS isn't a simulator.. which is just silly. It simulates every single known aspect of driving a car so how on earth is it not a simulator? They also fixed ALL of the issues that plagued the Shift series like the horrible input lag (now it's basically the best in class when you run it with 1 frame video render buffer as it's the first that truly separated steering inputs in a separate, dedicated process). It has a completely new, from the ground up, developed tire model by an absolute genius coder/mathemagician. Heck even the old tire model wasn't bad at all, developed by the Richard Burns Rally physics coder..

I think a lot of this hatred towards Project CARS comes from two things.

1) The history and disappointment of the SHIFT series and the crappy relationship consumers had and continue to have with Electronic Arts (it's no wonder they are always in the top 3 of most hated companies lists every year)

2) The inability of people to understand game development (this point hit the Assetto Corsa developers hard too) which explains why so many got kicked out in the beginning. All this led to a lot of very bitter people.. and I assume many of them are quite young which means they have no patience at all so everything is black and white.

It's going to be quite interesting to look back at this whole mess 3 years from now. I have a whole bunch of people I'll be calling out on. Same has already happened with Assetto Corsa.. a lot of extremely aggressive and down right rude comments from some people in the early days, and now it is their sim of choice. I get a nice chuckle from that every time. Project CARS will be the same. There's no denying it's quality, no matter how much one tries to pretend that it's a simple arcade product.. it isn't. The truth always tends to come out on top in the end. When enough time has passed, all this bickering will seem silly. Or perhaps some other title will start this whole process from the beginning again. We'll see.

Well most of the most rude and spiteful comments were against members here didn't like Pcars and who didn't like the way they were called haters by the SMS Boss. Most of the hate came from them actually and cannot be denied.

Lets just wait and see what the general consensus of the sim racing community is after release.

I quite like it for what it is though.

I use the term sim fundamentalists. Die hard worshipers of dx9 gMotor sims and physics. Consider Rfactor to be the only true sim God.

It used to be hardcore sim fans, but many Pcars hate comments (with pretty much the same content) later, it seems more accurate.

From a rf2/gsc enthusiasts pov... i managed to play a later build 840 of this and i wont lie im impressed. I had a great 10 laps at road america in the gt cars (whole field) and it was intense and fun.
I actually like the new seta tyre model, something about it NOT being the same old gmotor physics that im used to. I quite like how the tyres felt, ffb once tweaked (up to max) was okay, nothing special but enough to know what the car was doing underneath me.
AI was quite bashful (when among each other) but i take that WIP. However if your alone fighting an AI their actually quite good.
audio and visual nothing to say there best looking car game ever lol
Weather system is amazing and will be the key point to this game. On my gtx970 i managed 60 fps and only really sacrificing higher reflection.env map details. even 22 cars in the rain. So impressed…
yeah this will give the big boys a run for their money lol

actually i think the build was 834... nethertheless.
I was impressed. If i were to rank it in the realism i would put it in front of RRe and AC, and a little behind RF2.:)

i didnt get the Control settings vo confusing?! i had to put the tyre force down to about 15% just so i could steer without feel like im armwreslting hulk hogan. lol

The AI are indeed very bashy on build 829. can anyone advise if this is resolved on later builds

Yes. The latest AI updates went into one of the last two updates. The AI isn't perfect, but they race well and it's a blast driving with them. There is still room for improvement which will come but it's great fun.

I had a blast last night running behind an AI in a McLaren P1 around Oulton. I don't usually drive street cars in sims (was using the RUF CTR3), but I had to admit, I was enjoying it. I kept saying I was going to stop as it was getting late, but I kept going lap after lap (practice session with AI cars).

I have to agree with your assessment of the game. I dropped out 2 and 1/2 years ago due to frustration with the physics. I came back to the game a few weeks ago and I'm seriously impressed with every aspect of it. It took some doing to get the ffb settings to my liking and to set up the cars and figure out the AI. Now that I've done so, I'm really enjoying myself. It goes without saying that the graphics , at least on my old system , are gorgeous.

Is there some bad combos still in the game as of now. I tried the escortsRS at cadwell and it was like a destruction derby? Are there some combos just to avoid for now.

Given the old build you are using, it's hard to say. All of the AIW's were updated early this year so I'm not sure what the state of each track was back then. Silverstone was used for a lot of the AI testing around that time but given you are trying to play using a build that was never meant to be used in a non-testing state, I can't provide much more.
