Assetto Corsa 2: PC in Q2 2024, Console Release Confirmed

Assetto Corsa 2 Console Version Confirmed.jpg
The follow-up to the original Assetto Corsa will release in Q2 2024 – that, we already knew. But thanks to a new filing from Digital Bros, we know that a console release will soon follow.

The original Assetto Corsa is a beloved basically-open source PC sim racing platform, with modding capabilities meaning endless possibilities. But that does not mean that the game is not also popular on console, despite not being mod-compatible.

After the game released for PS4 and Xbox One, 40% of the game’s entire sales came from the console release. The next AC game was Assetto Corsa Competizione, a licenced side product which also released for console later on down the line. Many were wondering if the original game’s follow-up would get a release on PlayStation and Xbox.

It would appear that the answer to that is a firm yes.

Assetto Corsa 2 Console

The estimated Spring 2024 release date from a previous Digital Bros filing seems to be backed up once again in their latest report. Digital Bros are the parent company of both AC developers Kunos Simulazioni and the game’s console publisher 505 Games.

In their yearly financial report from 27 September, they make mention of the release of ‘Assetto Corsa 2‘ before the next fiscal year, putting the game’s initial release on PC before July 2024. They go on to state that the console version of the game will also arrive in the ‘long-term’.

With the previous two titles, the console versions arrived a few years after the PC release. The original Assetto Corsa released in late-2014, and the console version arrived in mid-2016. As for Assetto Corsa Competizione, mid-2019 was when the title launched before being on console in mid-2020.

PlayStation and Xbox players have had to make do with official content updates also being late to the platform. Whether the console version will release a year or two after the initial release on PC, we do not know yet. But it is an inevitability now, the game will come to console eventually.

It is not confirmed whether the game will launch for Gen 8 or Gen 9 consoles, but it is perhaps a safe call to assume it will be on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We cannot say for sure though, so watch this space as to whether players need to upgrade from their PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

For myself and probably a lot of other people it was being able to drive normal road going cars on fantastic bits of tarmac. I've spent so many hours going to a single track and then throwing cars at it, starting with the slowest.
That's the element I hope they keep. I have no idea what Mclaren cars drive like, never sat in a Ferrari..but BMWs? Audi etc. I spent decades driving those cars, so more of that, please :)

After ACC I´m only buying after reading lots of reviews. FFB in ACC was just awful and numb. Let´s not talk about the boring racing series. Why don´t we Sim Racers finally get a 80´s & 90´s VLN series?

This is the plan, and unique game engine.

NetKarPro<AC1<ACC.... i think every version is better than previous....Only the rain is missing from the first AC.
but with csp and content manager we have it :) on PC at least

Can you add screenshots of the source tweets? Because of the way you link them, I can't view them without an account.

AC with ACC feedback with RANKED. No one in here has mentioned that yet? You all hate driving against similar skilled opponents?

While i can see all the work that was put in by the many modders of AC with the light, rain, effects, cars, tracks and whatnot, i am a person who can't be bothered with all this fiddling around to make stuff work. Thats why i gravitate more towards complete packages of games with mostly curated environments. When i am today playing AC i am playing the Steam installed version and nothing else. I tried several times to get into the whole Content Manager stuff but seriously, its not for me. Same reason why i don't gravitate towards rF2.
So i hope that AC2 will have a great base package with some nice DLCs coming just like AC1 had. I need stuff to just work and have the same level of quality everywhere.
They've really made AC painlessly easy to mod with stuff like content manager, but I won't try to fault you for your take. I would argue until I'm blue in the face that it's absolutely worth the minimal effort to do, simply because the modded content is out of this world in terms of scope and quality; but I get it. One of AMS2's greatest strengths is the speed and ease of setting up any number of sessions across an impressive range of disciplines and tracks. If AC2 is really on the ball, they'll have an official version of content manager as the main launching platform for the game, ensuring modders are off to the races. Something like a steam workshop built into the game itself would be amazing, with a rating system and the ability for the community to ensure the cream rises to the top. I think that's probably a little far-fetched, especially when you consider paid mods (some of which are entirely worth every penny they ask for).

You gotta understand Assetto corsa was released way back in 2013-2014. That was a long time ago, modders really didn't add rain till the content manager was released quite a few years after the original release. Modders back then kinda figured rain and night was possible but it would be hard. Took it a long time to get it to where it is today and kunos just didn't have the man power, they were a tiny team after all. AC2 is gonna be an instant buy for me, I cannot wait for an AC 2 with some updated graphics.

The hint is in the name, AC2.
ACC is for licenced GT3 content, AC2 will be a platform about community modding.

Excuse me if I've missed it, but I haven't seen confirmation of AC2 being moddable.

All we know is that it is the sequel to AC. With new people in the team I expect it to look different, drive different and operate differently to AC. Fingers crossed it's better but I remain sceptical until proven otherwise.

I'm probably in the minority here came from PS4 to PC just recently. I played YEARS of vanilla AC Ultimate Edition on PS4. It's brilliant and exactly the same game as on PC (the vanilla version). That is the ONLY real sim available for PS4 and I'm not surprised it has sold so well. ACC on PS4 is 30fps. It's the same game but the experience is not good with that jerky game flow. Played that a lot too on PS4 and it was one of the main reasons I bought a gaming PC. I wanted the proper version. Sure the FFB is not as good but other than that it's a fantastic sim. Runs 60fps on PS5 though.

Sure, the AC mods on PC opened completely new world to me. Especially the vintage F1 mods which are insanely well made. But even the vanilla version has unbelievable amount of content on console. It has some serious and nasty shortcomings though... the individual track hotlap records won't save anywhere. Only the ghost (that you can't even remove). We can see the times on PC Content Manager. When I was playing AC on PS4 I actually wrote my times down on a Notepad. :D

What my point is? I think us hardcore sim racers are a minority. I'm sure 90% of the people who have AC on a console are happy with it. It's an identical port. Physics, FFB everything is the same.

Most likely there will be two different versions of AC2 again. Vanilla for consoles and CM version for PC users. Cheers.

PS: I have only a few improvement hopes: Slippery kerbs to more realistic, individual practice/qualifying/race AI skill level setting, better championship mode with more stats and content (like the ability to watch what happened in the previous races and qualifyings, maybe even a replay highlight reel). Better and more sensible racing AI of course.

Other than that AC is so good that it doesn't really need that much improvements. Graphics don't mean that much to me... they're already so good that it doesn't really matter. Built-in rain of course would be nice.

And yes... the RUF Yellowbird is horribly overdone. I've driven various old air cooled Porsches in real life... never a RUF though... I understand it comes with crappy vintage tires and all... and that turbo boost is crazy.... but there is no way the car can be quite THAT crazy in real life. It's almost like driving on ice or oil. It's one of the legendary cars I'd love to drive on AC but the version that we have is just too much. :)

Since AC2 will very likely have an Early Access period with a reduced price (just like AC1 had and ACC) its such a nobrainer. I expect it to be something around 30€ for the EA and i don't even need to think about it. I think AC1 and ACC were both 25€ for the super early access phase, then gradually it got more expensive. Something like this.
Anyways, its such a pain how close to the chest Kunos is keeping their cards, not just about AC2 but also about updates to ACC. They basically announce stuff relatively close to release, which is very refreshing on one hand (i'd rather have this than years long hypetrain) but also painful on the other :D

I believe in Kunos and Codemasters, they are the best game makers, just about the AI, Kunos is not really good, they need to improve.

OH NO THANK GOD

keep thoose "Modern Gaming Industry" practices out of my sight
Game, comes out, when Game Is PLAYABLE, STABLE, FUN..... AND worth its price
i Dont want a "Halo Infinite" again

I hope few new features will be present in AC2:

1. a photorealistic looking game engine
2. damage model
3. safety car
4. rolling start
and helicopters, pitbox animations like GT7, birds/leaves/dust, RAIN....., The cars BEING ON THE GARAGE instead of on pitlane, Better Immersion overall...

basically, making a better game
totally agreed

So assuming the Q2 2024 release refers to the full release, knowing Kunos from AC and ACC they will probably do some form of Early Access maybe up to 6 months prior to the release. This could mean a potential Early Access late this year or early 2024.
Do you really wanna have the ""Modern Gaming Beta Experience""
i will buy the game ONCE IS FINISHED.

im very excited too, but i have integrity and i like to spend my money on things that ACTUALLY worth that money

you get me?
is not that i think that Kunos is not going to make a good Game.

But i prefer to Cover my Back, instead of Healing the damage, if you know what i mean
(GT7, Forza 8, Cyberpunk2077, Fallout 76, Sonic Frontiers, Pokemon Scarlet....)
