Assetto Corsa 2: PC in Q2 2024, Console Release Confirmed

Assetto Corsa 2 Console Version Confirmed.jpg
The follow-up to the original Assetto Corsa will release in Q2 2024 – that, we already knew. But thanks to a new filing from Digital Bros, we know that a console release will soon follow.

The original Assetto Corsa is a beloved basically-open source PC sim racing platform, with modding capabilities meaning endless possibilities. But that does not mean that the game is not also popular on console, despite not being mod-compatible.

After the game released for PS4 and Xbox One, 40% of the game’s entire sales came from the console release. The next AC game was Assetto Corsa Competizione, a licenced side product which also released for console later on down the line. Many were wondering if the original game’s follow-up would get a release on PlayStation and Xbox.

It would appear that the answer to that is a firm yes.

Assetto Corsa 2 Console

The estimated Spring 2024 release date from a previous Digital Bros filing seems to be backed up once again in their latest report. Digital Bros are the parent company of both AC developers Kunos Simulazioni and the game’s console publisher 505 Games.

In their yearly financial report from 27 September, they make mention of the release of ‘Assetto Corsa 2‘ before the next fiscal year, putting the game’s initial release on PC before July 2024. They go on to state that the console version of the game will also arrive in the ‘long-term’.

With the previous two titles, the console versions arrived a few years after the PC release. The original Assetto Corsa released in late-2014, and the console version arrived in mid-2016. As for Assetto Corsa Competizione, mid-2019 was when the title launched before being on console in mid-2020.

PlayStation and Xbox players have had to make do with official content updates also being late to the platform. Whether the console version will release a year or two after the initial release on PC, we do not know yet. But it is an inevitability now, the game will come to console eventually.

It is not confirmed whether the game will launch for Gen 8 or Gen 9 consoles, but it is perhaps a safe call to assume it will be on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We cannot say for sure though, so watch this space as to whether players need to upgrade from their PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Nobody knows exactly.
Is it modable?
No idea.
Is physics so close to reality that we won't see real car racing anymore?
No idea.
Will it be “woke”?
No idea.
Can I dive, fly or hang lifeless over the fence in AC2?
I have no idea. Nobody has that.
But I know one thing for sure.
There is speculation again, there is comparison with other simulations again,
there is another digression towards personal insults. Typical internet behavior.
I for one will wait, drink tea and enjoy AC.
Only when it's published and I've tested it thoroughly will I know whether I like it.
Videos, pictures, statements. All marketing. Only the product shows the truth.
If I continue to pursue my hobby of virtual racing until then.

AC2 just needs to work on the "small things" like tyre deform and damage, well those arent small I guess. I hope AC2 has a lot of Formula/Indy cars because AC1 didnt have much at release. I hope the devs see how amazing AC1 is because of its amazing community. I stiil prefer it to everything else, rFactor 2 is a close 2nd.

Seeing as complete & realtime photorealistic visuals have never truly been possible for a racing game, and very likely won't be a reality for the current console generation, you might want to lower the bar on that one.
Of course photorealistic graphics are possible. There was footage from ARMA that got confused for real Ukraine war footage. A few years before that, footage from Driveclub was mistaken for real life.

Also I hope AC2 has a damage model.

There is no point trying to convince those you already decided not to be convinced.

I will personnaly purchase AC 2, so as le mans ultimate, rennsport, ...

We are lucky to have many titles at our disposal, i want to enjoy them all.

Agree, let's hope so. AC2 won't use Unreal Engine, they have confirmed that. ACC is horrible in VR indeed, they probably learned from it, it's probably one of the reasons that they switched to a other engine.
I wouldn't go as far as to say VR is horrible in ACC, it's just not good. I think it's straightforward enough to get it playable, you just can't have any bells or whistles and no amount of better hardware seems to fix it.

I'm not trying to argue as this is slightly subjective nor do I mean any disrespect, but claiming that ARMA and Driveclub look exactly like real life is hilariously inaccurate. The term photorealism in games has been casually and wrongfully thrown around for many many years, and the only time that this claim was ever true (in my knowledge) was in a Call of Duty game with a night-vision helicopter mission - which only achieved photorealism due to the source material lacking a lot of visual detail in the first place. Don't get me wrong though, we have lovely looking games now, and there's already plenty of very small tech demos that are proof of concept or just outright show photorealistic environments, but no tech demos yet show a full living dynamic scene, so achieving absolute photorealism in a game is probably / almost certainly too demanding for the current console generation, and definitely wasn't possible in PS4 era.

The 24Q2 release has to be a very early access one, probably even in alpha form. I find hard to believe that we are less than a year away from a full release and there isn't even a single screenshot available.

I actually have ACC quite clear and useable, its not to AMS2 level but its not horrific like it used to be, i found some really good settings online to sort various issues out. I still cant seem to sort the shimmering out on various bits but its passable (just).

ACC for me has the very best physics available and for that reason its worth the little mishap in VR.

AMS2 nails VR which makes its slightly lower (on average) accuracy on physics not so much of a drawback, as the entire package works well and is super easy to use and for my max 45 min play time a day means it gets heavy use.

AC is great, but the fact i have to go through various steps to get into the race each time via a monitor is a pain, which when on a low daily time limit for sim racing a barrier for me driving as much as AMS2 or ACC.

I know Kunos will nail AC2, its going to be absolutely splendid im sure of that.

I play more AC than my other sims and my sim rig doesn't have a monitor. Not sure what the issue is for you using a desktop view in VR. Doesn't your headset support that?

Its because my mouse and keyboard are on my desk and my steering wheel and seat are to the side. The speed of using AMS2 / ACC with regards to selecting car, track and opponents is so easy, for my limited week day racing time, it just makes it more attractive for me on a daily basis. I tend to dip into AC at weekends when i can mess around with it as i have a bit more time.

The pedigree is there, should be good....I hope it hasn't got a million stupid steam acheivements to smeg up my average.

I have my expectations on AC2, but will it be our dream simulator or a new disappointment? Who knows! I've always thought that making a good simulator is easier than than making any other kind of videogame simply because there's only one clear rule: make it more realistic. In other games there are artistic factors, so you may like or not the new style, the new ideas, new concepts, new gamplay... But in a simulator you don't have to be creative, you don't have to think or take risks. You just have to pursue realism in all aspects of your game. Moreover, you have previous titles and other titles on the market to see what can be improved. Now you have more computing power, new tools, more data... So, come on and don't disappoint!

"basically-open source"
A clear example of open source being a kind of enshittification of free software.
And both having nothing to do with AC in any way.

AC2 will need to bring something exceptional, given the massive amount of great mods/utilities currently available. They utterly transformed the current title.
I don't revolution, I want evolution. Easier modding, programmable weather, modern tire model and damage models and they will have my $.

if it got graphics like csp + tunable car, im fine with it, I dont really want another game with 30 nissans s13 with different spec...

DLC need to be available as individual items.
They gloat about AC sales while at same time forcing you to buy cars you really don't care for.
Oh right, no one forced you  Oh right ultimate is out now

Multi specs of same car is worse idea I have seen, maybe a few special ones here and there.
Changeable parts I would not sneeze at.

Concentrate on continually improving the base content.
AC tracks look far worse then Brianza and Belgium, they just don't feel alive and nothing the community can do can change that.
= decent terrain please !

Drives as well if not better then rF2.

rF2 this, rF2 that.
What it has to do with the topic of the discussion, am I in the wrong thread?

You don't like it you know exactly what to do. ( shrugs)

Let me see, other sims mentioned in this thread:
ACC, Netkar, AMS2, LFS, RRE , AC, AMS :coffee:

Your point ?

My point ?
I thought AC had only sold 1.4M units so I asked if anyone knows.
So 4-5M ? Suddenly to me 7,000 online is not worth writing to mother about.
I am saying............
We need many many more online then 7,000 no matter what sim.
All track and car combos divided into 7,000 does not go well.
We need to understand how this be improved.
So my hope AC2 magically has 70,000 online then you would have 10 times the chance of finding your combo.
If that is a bad thing sue me.
