Assetto Corsa 2: PC in Q2 2024, Console Release Confirmed

Assetto Corsa 2 Console Version Confirmed.jpg
The follow-up to the original Assetto Corsa will release in Q2 2024 – that, we already knew. But thanks to a new filing from Digital Bros, we know that a console release will soon follow.

The original Assetto Corsa is a beloved basically-open source PC sim racing platform, with modding capabilities meaning endless possibilities. But that does not mean that the game is not also popular on console, despite not being mod-compatible.

After the game released for PS4 and Xbox One, 40% of the game’s entire sales came from the console release. The next AC game was Assetto Corsa Competizione, a licenced side product which also released for console later on down the line. Many were wondering if the original game’s follow-up would get a release on PlayStation and Xbox.

It would appear that the answer to that is a firm yes.

Assetto Corsa 2 Console

The estimated Spring 2024 release date from a previous Digital Bros filing seems to be backed up once again in their latest report. Digital Bros are the parent company of both AC developers Kunos Simulazioni and the game’s console publisher 505 Games.

In their yearly financial report from 27 September, they make mention of the release of ‘Assetto Corsa 2‘ before the next fiscal year, putting the game’s initial release on PC before July 2024. They go on to state that the console version of the game will also arrive in the ‘long-term’.

With the previous two titles, the console versions arrived a few years after the PC release. The original Assetto Corsa released in late-2014, and the console version arrived in mid-2016. As for Assetto Corsa Competizione, mid-2019 was when the title launched before being on console in mid-2020.

PlayStation and Xbox players have had to make do with official content updates also being late to the platform. Whether the console version will release a year or two after the initial release on PC, we do not know yet. But it is an inevitability now, the game will come to console eventually.

It is not confirmed whether the game will launch for Gen 8 or Gen 9 consoles, but it is perhaps a safe call to assume it will be on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. We cannot say for sure though, so watch this space as to whether players need to upgrade from their PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

I really wonder if AC2 will be better than the AC from Ilja and Peter ;)
Theres only so much you can squeeze out of an 11 year old physics/graphics engine. What Ilja, Peter and others have done with squeezing the last drops of blood out of this rock has been fun to watch - and drive :D Its a beautiful thing today.

With a new ground up and current physics, graphics engine etc. Use your imagination.
Now if Ilja and Peter gets on AC2 at launch, Ohhh boy.

Engine wise i think we will see a heavily evolved AC1 engine. They won't write a completely new engine. I don't see it happening.
They are developing a "new technology" for the AC2 engine, and the goal is even greater flexibility then UE 5+. I don't think they'd be 'patching and bonding' current new gen tools and tech to an ancient engine. Actually they couldn't imo.

I hope few new features will be present in AC2:

1. a photorealistic looking game engine
2. damage model
3. safety car
4. rolling start
Seeing as complete & realtime photorealistic visuals have never truly been possible for a racing game, and very likely won't be a reality for the current console generation, you might want to lower the bar on that one.

I adored AC (and still do), I know it has some shortcomings, but for me it’s my fav sim. I could never get on board with ACC, the FFB just never seemed as good as AC, so I’m not sure what to expect from an AC2.

I think Kunos has proven themselves as absolute top developers with AC and kind of with ACC too. But I think the most limiting factor is the audience. AC2 will probably be as good as it has to be.

Jesus!
Forty percent is a massive amount of console revenue...given how much later it was released on those platforms.
That in itself, justifies the newer game release again to console.

I can't help but have some trepidation for this game, with 40% console revenue, it's a clear steer that versions with locked/monetized DLC generate decent income.

Certainly, it's going to be a balancing point I think, how to make a game desirable (massive amount of mods) and also make money off doing so - and no it's not a labour of love, they have shareholders.

RF2 sort of manages this with ongoing DLC and Steam Workshop for the mods.

AC, for me, and many I'm sure is little more than the engine for the epic game that is CM, SOL, and all the other mods added to keep the game still current.

I can imagine that Kunos is watching Rennsport closely to see how they monetize ongoing gaming, at least I hope so over watching EA's annual release psychosis.

Guess you can never please everyone, as much I loved AC, getting back to it after experiencing physics and FFB in ACC (at least on DD wheel) is quite jarring experience.
AC content with ACC physics will be a dream come true.
But at this point we do not even have a slightest idea what the content going to look like, will they focus on specific series with proper attention to simulation fidelity for a limited content, or just another kitchen sink mediocre Forza clone. Hope not the latter.

What's the bet it come out of the box with a massive open world driving map and a large array of drift cars?

Considering how popular these have proven to be they should be meeting that aspect of their customer base.

Or maybe the should do another side project AC Drift.

Well S397 is still kicking after 7 years.
You mention another thing gets no credit.
rF2 is only sim has a workshop. lol
If any other sim done the same it would be a revelation  :coffee:

Something like Gran Turismo lighting engine would be enough... :D
But considering what UE5 can achieve, I would expect from Kunos new graphic engine, something more advanced than old generation lighting engine. After all, technology goes forward and never remains still.

I will get this for PC. Consoles may work for some people, but for me, sim racing only really works on computers, especially when it comes to modding. Also, ACC was released for consoles but based on what I saw, the release was a bit of a mess, with long delays for patches, content, etc. I don't think Kunos cares about consoles.

Since you want to contribute to the discussion… at least get the facts right. Modding was to be re-introduced with the new engine as per interviews and podcasts.
Tell me please how modding wil work on the consoles. And by the way, they can indeed allow modding, but they might make it a lot harder to do the things they do with AC1, and reserve that right for themselves and their own future updates, just like they did with ACC, which has had a much longer shelf life for them than AC1.

KS does not care about console users just their money :x3:
They apparently sold 28M units, how many for PC ?
No idea, but probably less. You're right, the console market is a cash cow, nothing else. ACC was ported to consoles by another studio, I believe. Kunos clearly develops its sims for the PC.

i hope we will see some kind of announcement around November.
is this not also usually the time of year when kunos releases a pretty big patch to ACC?
