Why The Future Of Assetto Corsa Is So Exciting, With Marco Massarutto | Traxion.GG Podcast S4 E5

For this edition of the Traxion.GG Podcast, we speak to Marco Massarutto, co-founder and Executive Manager of Kunos Simulazioni, an Italian development team headquartered near the Vallelunga Circuit. We discuss the background and inspirations behind Kunos’ biggest and most recent hit games, including 2014’s Assetto Corsa, plus the official GT World Challenge game, Assetto Corsa Competizione, first seen in 2018. The future of the Assetto Corsa franchise is also talked about; we already know Assetto Corsa 2 is in the works, but Marco reveals more details in terms of the game engine and content, as well as a surprising statistic regarding the importance of console sales to the business… While their most recent game, Assetto Corsa Competizione, enjoyed a successful Challengers Pack DLC launch last month (March 2022), we also discuss the prospects of further new content coming to the lauded GT racing sim – and what the future holds for the next-gen console versions. Interesting to see that the console audience is such a large install base for the original AC. Some people might feel because it doesn't support mods that version is a complete afterthought, but it makes up to 40% of the audience to the game.

With this in mind, I imagine they will add more features to make it more appealing to the console space. This doesn't mean "casual" but really fixing a lot of the complaints on the console front, that being the really slim amount of content and lack of resources to really train people to be better drivers. The career mode in the original AC might be one the worst of any racing game I've ever played. It's just a challenge mode, literally no different than the actual challenge mode in the game, and the second half the career is just the same races with the same cars with the default AI increased, or 8 lap races turned into endurance ones. This is the biggest thing I think an AC2 needs to address, as the other elements are more "obvious" and assumed to be there like time of day, weather, and a more in-depth tire model. AC2 will probably be compared to AC + CM + CSP + Sol, so the only thing I hope they really tackle is the single player stuff, as it's the games current weak component when comparing it to other racing titles.

I think they need to step up the simulation value to the next level. Makes an option for auto drift, It need to accommodate peeps who came from ACC.

You need two games now. ACC is mainly for the top end players, freaks and nerds who spend a fortune on kit and sweat their asses off to do laptime and race in leagues, it is not really for amateurs like me who are not bad, but can't be assed to put the time in (and spend the cash) to be an alien, and frankly think they are a bit weird anyway, I mean have you seen any of them lol!

AC needs to have the fun element too just like the old game that ahs now morphed into its own reality which is amazing.

ACC will only ever be a freaks paradise.

You can't be more wrong.

That is my opinion, not yours so I could not be more right, the two are totally different types of game, and if you dont understand that then you either never play them or dont get it
