Use joystick as handbrake

My wheel, a T500 RS, has one problem, there is no easy way to use a handbrake whilst turning (buttons are in the wrong place to be able to hold a button with your thumb, for example).

Ive just purchased and installed RBR so im thinking of ways that i could perhaps do this slightly different.

I have an old flight sim joystick that I thought might work. What i need is some software that would detect the input and after a certain movement would trigger a keystroke in the game. I guess PPJoy or similar would work but i cant at the moment find a working link.

Does anyone have any ideas how I may set this up?

Not sure if it's possible but you could have a look at JoyToKey:

I use it to map buttons on my wheel to hotkeys for stuff outside the game (like push to talk or reset facetracknoir) as Fanatec doesnt let me configure a keypress on any of the buttons, works fine for that and I think what you want should be possible too.
